    What is the state of a human when thrown into Gehenna?
    Luke 12:5
    5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed someone, has the power to throw that person into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
    Dead.
    Matthew 5:29-30
    Now if your right eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into Gehenna.
    A Body.
    Mark 9:43-44
    `And if thy hand may cause thee to stumble, cut it off; it is better for thee maimed to enter into the life, than having the two hands, to go away to the gehenna, to the fire -- the unquenchable --
    44 where their worm is not dying, and the fire is not being quenched.
    Isaiah 66
    24 And they have gone forth, And looked on the corpses of the men Who are transgressing against me, For their worm dieth not, And their fire is not quenched, And they have been an abhorrence to all flesh!
    Corpses.
    Mark 9
    47 And if thine eye may cause thee to stumble, cast it out; it is better for thee one-eyed to enter into the reign of God, than having two eyes, to be cast to the gehenna of the fire --
    48 where their worm is not dying, and the fire is not being quenched;
    49 for every one with fire shall be salted, and every sacrifice with salt shall be salted.
    Sacrifices are dead before they are burned and dead before they are salted.
    Jeremiah 7
    32 “Therefore, behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when it will no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but the Valley of the Slaughter; for they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place. 33 The dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth; and no one will frighten them away.
    Jeremiah 19
    11 and say to them, ‘This is what the LORD of armies says: “To the same extent I will break this people and this city, just as one breaks a potter’s vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury their dead in Topheth, because there is no other place for burial.
    Dead

    According to parable and word pictures, what is the state of a human when thrown into the fire?
    Matthew 3
    10 And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.
    Matthew 7:19
    Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
    A cut down tree is dead when it is thrown in the fire.
    Matthew 3
    11 “As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
    Harvested wheat is dead when the chaff is thrown in the fire.
    Matthew 13
    30 Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
    40 So just as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the [end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    Pulled up weeds are dead when they are thrown in the fire.
    Matthew 13
    47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; 48 and when it was filled, they pulled it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age: the angels will come forth and remove the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    The bad fish are dead by the time they are sorted and thrown away.
    John 15
    2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.....
    .... 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
    A pruned branch is dead when it is thrown in the fire.
    Matthew 24
    50 then the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know, 51 and he will cut him in two and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    Luke 12
    46 then the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know, and will [ae]cut him in two, and assign [af]him a place with the unbelievers.
    A slave cut in two is dead when he is assigned to the place of weeping and gnashing.

    What is the state of a human when thrown into the fire?
    Daniel 7
    10 A river of fire was flowing And coming out from before Him;
    Thousands upon thousands were serving Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him;
    The court convened, And the books were opened.
    11 Then I kept looking because of the sound of the boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was killed, and its body was destroyed and given to the burning fire.
    Dead.
    Revelation 20
    11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them; and they were judged, each one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
    Dead.
