Just completed, did it whilst the plenums where off which made it easier. I also cleaned the pipes from the plenum to the PCVs as they where pretty gunked up As well and didn’t want this going into my new PCV. If you are on a budget you can just clean the PCVs with a bit of degreaser just make sure they are fully dry again before putting them back in. But as M Tech Guy said they are relatively cheap. Another great video, I would not have known anything about them existing with out this vid. Thanks M Tech Guy👍
Great explanation of the operation and reason for the PCV valves. There are actually 4 of these valves. The two on the valve covers you did are relatively easy to get at the other two are on the left side of the block at the back. For LHD cars that is the driver’s side. They are in the same spot for RHD cars, but that side would be called the passenger’s side. The only way to get to them are by dropping the trans.
Yes! The two non return valves (same part no.) that the vent hoses at the back of the plenum drop down & connect to, back of the engine close to the bell housing. These don’t usually present issues like the ones at the valve covers do. Unless you’ve got the gearbox out or have the engine dropped down slightly, it ain’t worth the grief for no real gain. Thanks for watching man
.. Just seen the comments. There are 4 pcv valves. 2 are relatively easily accessible- the other 2 not so much! Does it make sense to only change the two valves at the top? .. I mean I don’t fancy dropping out the transmission to get to the bottom 2 but is it generally only the top two that can cause issues? I’ve not got any error codes for these valves btw. Just doing it as part of the general upkeep of the car
Yes, 4 valves in the system like this. Normally it’s the ones in the valve covers that cause issues as they get old. The two down at the back of the engine operate as an oil drain back valves and don’t normally present issues. Unless you’re in there with a bigger job, I wouldn’t worry about them, not worth the hassle from what you’ll gain
Hi M tech guy. Good work on the videos! Can I just double check, does the e60 M5 have 2 or 4 pcv valves. I thought it was 2 but the main dealership is telling me there’s 4 on the car.. Regards Mike
@@MTechGuyyes that can only be done after dropping the gear box. But are those pcv valves more important to change ?, I am worried we should consider them first
How wouId I contact you to send you a video of cold start of my M5, there is ticking noise until warms up its so hard to tell from where, i would say everywhere lol, when is warm cant hear anything so smooth. Thank you
I dont get how you dont have that many subs broo!! u been a huge help for me and my m5 :) stay blessed bro keep that content 💯
Thanks man, appreciate it. I’m glad you’ve got some value from the videos and found them helpful. Like, Subscribe & spread the word 👍
I guess not many people have these cars. I bought mine and this channel is a god send, really.
Great video , I wish I'd seen this last week as iv just had my plenum off I would replace them
Thanks for watching. Plenum removal not really necessary for this job, but would certainly make it a little easier with the extra room

yes theres 4 but the other 2 are hard to reach coz their way under the back of the engine and mostly recommend replacing the two on this video.
Bro there two more pcv valve in the crankcase, will you change them soon
Oil drain back valves. Not replacing unless I’m dropping the gearbox sometime

How do you know if they are bad, is it worth of doing it, 40k miles on my M5
Probably getting close to needing doing, if you are experiencing oil consumption I would get them done
@@MTechGuy Have not own it that long but will look into it, thanks
