I recently lost my wife of 31 years. We both loved Garbage. This song helps me when the grief makes it hard to breath. Awesome song.
I'm so very sorry. Life is so hard, my heart hurts for you. Keep going brother.
I don't know you. We'll most likely never meet. I'm sorry for your loss. You picked a beautiful tune to add your comment. All the best.
Lost my wife two years ago. We both loved Garbage as well. It never gets easier, you just get used to it not getting easier.
Your late wife will always be with you, look for the signs 🕊️
I’m here to tell you she loves you and misses you too.
I can’t believe how beautiful this song is. I’ve loved it since high school. “All the feels,” as the kids say.
i never regretted buying GARBAGE V2.0 ... that album was an emotional roller coaster for me... my life theme songs were all in ONE masterpiece...every song ...that album made me cry with it's beats, lyrics and vocals resonating deep what I'm going through at that time. The band was so intelligent in making each song very personal to their listeners...Thank YOU... Your my number 1 FAVORITE band next is 2.Nirvana and 3.Evanescence...
Che, this release also hits me straight to my soul. This was the happiest year of my life and at the same time it was heartbreaking.
One of the best albums ever- not a single track to skip. Love all of it.
I still have the cd, love it to bits 😍
A masterpiece. Such a unique album
The lyrics are beautiful and powerful ❤️
This song is underrated
"The Trick Is To Keep Breathing"
She's not the kind of girl
Who likes to tell the world
About the way she feels about herself
She takes a little time
In making up her mind
She doesn't want to fight against the tide
Lately, I'm not the only one
I say, never trust anyone
Always the one who has to drag her down
Maybe you'll get what you want this time around?
Can't bear to face the truth
So sick he cannot move
And when it hurts he takes it out on you
Lately I'm not the only one
I say never trust anyone
Always the one who has to drag her down
Maybe you'll get what you want this time around?
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing
She knows the human heart
And how to read the stars
Now everything's about to fall apart
I won't be the one who's going to let you down
Maybe you'll get what you want this time around?
(The trick is to keep breathing)
I won't be the one who's going to let you down
(The trick is to keep breathing)
Maybe you'll get what you want this time around?
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing
The trick is to keep breathing

24 years and still rolling. What a piece of album. Garbage is probably the most underrated band of the 90`s
This song saved my life. C-PTSD. Years of abuse. BUT I won. Stronger.
This music is pure Garbage, which means it's really good.
Hi I Recommend an Indie Rock Song Called 'looking Into the mirror' by Robert Nix
this song is very underrated. put your headphones at night and listen it masterpiece
That’s definitely on point
I’m doing exactly what you wrote headphones in & late night early morning.
Amazing how I stumbled upon ur comment I almost stopped scrolling then ur comment popped up & now I’m out of here ❤️👍👍👍
“ baby You’ll get what u want this time around....the trick is to...”✌🏼
Doing it. Reminiscing the 90s
O I did in 1998 as a 15 year old. I did other stuff to this song too.
I'm actually rocking it with headphones so I get it...
Already ahead of you there.
This song is amazing.
Sometimes such underrated masterpieces help us cope with life. The entire album V2.0 was a 10/10
I think the first is the best they made, my opinion.-
tingletangle1 it’s definitely the best but you can’t go wrong with any of their songs
Suhrid, absolutely perfect comment..
c'est jolie musique ❤

Number 1 song of all time for me right here! We all have reasons to love music and Garbage. I won't bore everyone with my reasoning. All I will say is that in the summer of '98 I was 18 and living life. I had to buy this CD like 4 times because I kept wearing them out.
Thank you for the memories, Garbage! Love you always
You can watch this with the sound off and still feel that charisma Shirley Manson has, it's insane
her voice is a while room full of plush couches and a warm fireplace. her lyrics are icy rain against glass windows. fucking love these guys. the band does, such a great job of creating the playground for her voice
Eloquently put
Cant believe people thumbed this prose up. Your moniker should be Lipshitz Scheisser.
That was sexy stuff, Lipzig.
Lipzig Schweitzer Her voice is hot cup of coffee with some pumpkin spice creamer sitting on the kitchen counter top. Her lyrics are are the dancing flames in that fireplace....

such an empowering song
This is probably my favourite song ever by Garbage.. For me to pick one though is really hard, but this particular one.. The violin synth arrangements in the chorus along with her vocals always give me chills each time I listen to it. I can literally listen to it a 100 times in a row and not get sick of it.. On top of that, the lyrical content is like.. perfect. Nothing more relatable, cuz the real trick IS to keep breathing when times are tough.. That's the message I always get out of it.. Amazing song.
Christian Zimm, that's exactly how I feel.
Mine is Cup of coffee, but this is close 2nd.
the same
I struggle with an absolute top favorite as well, as i like so many. Where do i start? As Heaven Is Wide? Stupid Girl? Vow? Special? Temptation Waits? The Trick Is To Keep Breathing? When I Grow Up? Push It? Hammering In My Head? Medication? You Look So Fine? Milk? #1 Crush? The World Is Not Enough? Cherry Lips? Shut Your Mouth?
The list just goes on and on and this is just a snapshot of the early stuff.
If i had to pick just one? Most likely MIlk, Siren version without tricky as he ruined it for me. And out of all the different Siren versions, it would be the live MTV 1996 EU awards show performance. That one has me in tears more often than not. The Trick Is TO Keep Breathing comes in as close second as i listen to it along with You Look So Fine the most. Although this whole last weeks its been nothing but Stupid Girl and Push it that i dig the most.
I just love Garbage.
They do have so many fantastic songs. Mine has to be "You look so fine".
underrated. highly underrated. one of the best performers ever.
Great song and Shirley is so gorgeous
This song is the reason I'm still here today. It means the world to me.
Garbage is very unique. But ain't everyone? Just keep breathing. Life have lots to offer.
please stay on, do something beautiful
I’m glad you’re still here sweetheart. Not the only one. ❤️🍀🙂🌻
🫂
I wish Garbage wrote more ballads: it’s their greatest works
This whole album is flawless.
Yep. I seriously haven't even heard any of their other albums or work. Kind of afraid that it won't live up to expectations. I grew up in the 90's, but due to religious upbringing I never got to experience the great 90's music in the 90's. I missed out on a lot.
100%
@@QbidMusicandMore I'd say go ahead and listen to their newest album if you're up for it. Lots have said its their best since 2.0
Such a good album 😍 so lucky to grow up with this as a teen! Still gives me goosebumps this song
@@il_veltro I love strange little birds and their newest album, no gods no masters is brilliant!
In the late 90's I locked eyes with Shirley in a concert in Madison, WI. Even in such a fast moving rough crowd up front and center, I managed to get the luck of having her look directly at me for 3 full seconds. Better than any autograph, but I got one of them also.
Really it a NICE dream why was she looking at you and for next trick hmmm
I had the honour of working security for them when they played Pondemonium a few years later in Madison. Got to meet the band and tell Queen Shirley how much she and the boys meant to me, their music literally saved my life 🖤
@@marian3nene45 THEY ARE LEGEND...
Seen them half a dozen times or more and had it happen several times. I think she does it intentionally, trying to connect with as many eyes as possible. I think she knows how it makes the person feel and how it elevates the experience. I could also be completely talking out my ass, so there's that. But she's a smart performer so I hope I'm right.
Another sultry song by Shirley, who has such a vocal range, who can change her voice to suit the song.Garbage are such an underrated band with unique memorial songs.
She looks so beautiful, with her hair braided and ponytailed. This is such a sweet, tender, thoughtful, and mindful song. God be with you, Garbage. Flame
on. 🔥🔥🥰
One of my favourite Garbage songs: enigmatic, embedding, melodic, intimate and magnificent!
Perfectly put.
They get so much more attention for their headbanging anthems but
to me, their very best work is their hypnotic, haunting poetry -- Milk, Cup of Coffee, Queer, It's All Over but the Crying, April Tenth, As Heaven Is Wide, Sugar... That's what stays w/ u, curled up quietly inside, waiting, watching...
Number 1 crush

Chanteuse exceptionnelle, voie sensuelle et un charme naturel !
great song, one of my favourite Garbage songs as well
Totally agried.😊😃
nostalgia.......i can't even explain what this band is to me...garbage was a force to be reckoned with. i'll always listen. always...
This is the most underrated band of all time.
Totally agree even after all these years all of their tracks sound so good and genuine... garbage are all time rock legends
Agreed
This Album was top tier. Start to finish. Easily one of my all time favorite albums.
This album and band got me through my teenage years. Being gay and not apart of anything. Never talking to anyone or making friends (I was so afraid of being found out). Not having anyone who understood me or what I liked and what I really love. Trying my best to stand outside the crowd but always wanting to be that person in the crowd. Life seemed like everything was really hard and the anxiety of how will I get through this? I don’t know how. What if I fail. What if I’m not who i thought I was going to be. What if I never love someone because of who I am, what if my relation with family falls apart when my secret seeps out? I don’t know why I freaked out myself so much, and depressed because I couldn’t do anything about it. That I’ll always be the one alone, looking in, at everything that I wanted. But I always got by with my music and my cat, because I didn’t really have any friends, he was my best friend of course. I’m glad I had this because I had so much self hatred towards myself. It smoothed out the hard edges sometimes. I’m glad I had Garbage ☺️
Thank you for sharing this. It's amazing what solice people can find, and the power it has to get folk through difficult times
Similar story here my friend. I'm glad we made it through.
Probably late to the party but take this from a hetero, the ones who made fun of you or beat you down were the true cowards. It takes a certain amount of fortitude to be what you want to be, and those jackass's lacked such.
Thank you for sharing. Same situation. Heard Shirley’s voice on an mtv commercial for Push It. My life changed that day and I learned how to turn fear and loneliness into confidence.
@@2ToyBoys here’s to having an outlet 🥂
If there is an album from the 90s that you could listen to from beginning to end and it charged you with energy and rebellion at the same time, it is Garbage Version 2.0.
Interesting reading people saying stuff like "nostalgia" and "I'm 16 again". I was 40 when this came out, and it still seems like fairly recent music to me, in the scheme of things. Great stuff though. Love everything Garbage have done.
I'm 40 now, and was young when this came out. Thanks for your comment.
Me too. I was 42. It was the soundtrack to my life at the time. Still love it and it still resonates and I am now almost 67...
Hehe I am 42 now, and to me it seems as it was released yesterday..
I've always loved this song. very. 2.0 helped me get through highschool.
It helped me get through life.
+David Wakelee indeed
Same. And still I feel this describes my life perfectly.😯 But I love/hate my life so I'll never change..as long as I keep breathing😁❤
me too I was the kid who was going through shit ha
Garbage gets me through life!
Just the subtleties in this song that you can pick out 20 years later that you may not have ever heard. The breathing, the guitars at the end and Shirley’s voice being overlapped just make this song so great and the entire album so great. Butch is the master of originality.
I bought the 20 year anniversary super deluxe version. Remastered. I can't believe what they did to the songs. They are all so damn crystal clear it is almost unbelievable.
THIS NEEDS MORE VEIWS!!! THIS BAND ISN'T APPRECIATED ENOUGH. 💜💜💜
Fact!
its for us...not them, most are not capable of appreciating this music...they need simple crap like justin beeber or lady gaga
Thats because they were famous before youtube existed lol.. the 90s was actually a great time for good bands with things like creativity, harmonies, and good rhythms..
Fact
Somehow in the production they achieved a fuller sound than any album of any genre I have heard before or since. Only thing that comes close is "October Rust" by Type O Negative, totally different style but the producer really understood how to balance the sound.
This song still gives me goosebumps. Im not sure if im the only one
Ernesto Caste No..I had them at the intro.🎶
I had it at the first chorus. So good
The Trick is to keep breathing
Lately, you are not the only one
Hey same here!
Not only is this song absolutely beautiful. Reading how many people it helped through dark times warms my heart. To me this will always the song that felt like the hug I needed after my first girlfriend broke up with me.
My favorite Garbage song. Absolutely beautiful.
dude, nice user photo. Of Malice and The Magnum Heart. one of the greatest metalcore albums of all-time. "The Year Summer Ended in June" may just be THE greatest metalcore song of all-time IMO.
Garbage is really good at changing up the sound of their songs from almost a background noise to big vibes.
Hi I Recommend an Indie Rock Song Called 'looking Into the mirror' by Robert Nix
Someone get me a bucket of tissues and a box for my tears
It's been more than a decade, the trick is still to keep breathing.
Always loved cranking me up some Garbage. Their shit just never gets old lol.
Shirley is such a badass!
Still get goosebumps from this song more than 20 years later.
Damn our music was so much better than what they call music now.
Hi I Recommend an Indie Rock Song Called 'looking Into the mirror' by Robert Nix
Love this song... one of my favorites... it's been over 25 yrs now
I'm a grown man and this song makes me tear up almost every time I hear it. Can relate to the lyrics so much.
I'm seeing Garbage in Cincinnati Sept. 15th, hope to hell they do this song.
Love the bassline. Superb song from an excellent album.
Shirley Manson is a superior lyricist, the embodiment of teenage angst in the 90s, eternally so, for ever and ever.
timeless song, sort of trip hop, completely cool
The best singer ever
Her beauty matches her voice. Go hand in hand
.
Just keep pushin'. Never give up
Love the first time chorus "And lately..." the soundstage gets wide with the synths. Goosebumps. Also when the violins gets in at 02:03 Very well done. "..and how to read the stars"
Back in the days when artists really had something to say, the. Time when it was okay not to be okay, and you only had to listen to a song to realize you weren't the only one who felt that way.
Well said, just look at the crap that passes as music now
Hi I Recommend an Indie Rock Song Called 'looking Into the mirror' by Robert Nix
This song makes me ache in the most beautiful way possible.
She has a particular beauty and voice that makes her unique.
Oh the memories. Definitely an underrated song from one of the UK's finest bands.
? To my recollection, Garbage is an American band. the only person not from the U.S. is Shirley, who is Scottish. Is that what you're referring to?
Wikipedia has it, that Garbare are American/British.
It's quite possible that - or, that I won't be surprised, if - Garbage either garnered more popularity in the UK and Europe than in the U.S., or that their popularity is more lasting in the UK/EU. It's quite hard to tell now.
Based out of Madison, Wisconsin.
An American band and Scotish lead singer
Lol I came here to point out that the 3 dudes are from the U.S.
I wanna crying every time when I listen this song
so sad, so beautiful.
Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead etc were some of the best bands to come out of the 90s...loved listening to them back then, when I was in college
I have been with garbage for over 20 years. Had 3 albums and loved all 3. They rock my world.
i kinda prefer the darker style they had in the first 2 albums
She’s a siren❤
the sounds, the changes of rithm, the melody, HER VOICE....... guauu
This song still stabs me in the heart and festers the teenage angst I've long thought to be repressed, but feel all to clearly hasn't. Now that my emotional walls have crumbled from a full listening; I'm going to go cry now.
LET IT ALL OUT 🎶LET IT OUT
Yikes, discovered this song in the early 2000's and it still feels deep into my soul. Amazing how I vividly remember this song since I was a kid.
you guys truly saved my life. Listening to your music helped me feel less alone and kept be going through some of my worst years. thank you for existing
I love reading the comments in the Garbage songs - makes me feel normal. Their songs often bring tears to me.....
Shirley Manson never gets old. She's my heroine and I love Garbage!
One of their best songs.
One of the best and most originals bands I've ever listened to. This song is a great example of their originality in lyrics and use of instruments.
Correct, this album was a beautiful masterpiece. Quintessential band of the 90’s
This is my all time personal favorite song from Garbage.
Same.
Amazing and beautiful song by Garbage.
Hello bond xD...
O MY GOD!!! THIS SONGS MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I'M 17 ALL OVER AGAIN....
I met both Shirley Manson & Butch Vig during my 9 years working at a famous store in Beverly Hills. I love Butch Vig & Shirley Manson & the rest of the band ( Garbage ).. your music will never die. Believe that.
That's all.
What a great song from a great band. Their first 2 albums should be in any musical collection.
Such an under-rated, beautiful track. So saddened this has barely any views! :(
Don't be sad about that. Sometimes RUclips does weird thing like takes down videos that have millions of views and rue-loads a 'new' version which takes a long time to get as many. Garbage is a brilliant band much loved around the world and still iconic.
This song actually have many views. Keep in mind that the song was realeased far before RUclips so many people don't know about it now. And it was uploaded at 2015.
@@djperryboy Afaik The World Is Not Enough was only released by Garbage to be on YT not so long ago as well. I remember reading about it. So view counts are not always correct.
sounds so soft and peaceful
it is indeed full of pieces
Peaceful
Indeed!
Garbage. Forever.
No 2 Garbage songs are the same, which is what makes them so awesome!
Honestly I listen to so many types of music and this is one of my favorite songs ever
atmospheric one of their best
I've loved Garbage since shortly after they started. The way Shirley sings in such a raw, haunting display of pure emotion always spoke to my heart. As I age (I'm two years older than Shirley) their music hurts so deep in my heart I can barely listen. All the loss, pain, desire, need, frustration at those in power and dear I say, God. Time takes it all as Shirley sings on their No God No Masters album. She and they ask hard questions that I find myself asking more and more. Are we ever going to get a satisfactory answer? Anyway, Shirley is beyond the justification by words, she transends all of that with who she is, first and foremost. After that; her voice, her attitude, her kindness, her sense of humor, her depth and such a fire and heart I can only dream exists in this world.
So magical, so ethereal, so therapeutic... one of my favorite songs in my whole life... and one of my favorite bands. Version 2.0 is a full piece of holy art...
Whole CD was very good 👍
I remember when I bought the album (I guess I must have been about 14) and this was and still is one of my favorite songs. Well I am 39 today. This is what you call a good song💕
This is my favorite Garbage song n really helpful these days...
Back then, I felt like "the kind of guy, who didn't like to tell the world, about the way he feels, about himself....". This band had an impact on me back then, and I wasn't a kid. Damn! 3:)
"Lately..." and those lower parties of Shirley's voice make me cry like a teenager on the Rolling Stones concert. ;-))
It's 2020 and we still love you, Shirley... Big thanks, greetings from Polska.
even after all these years this song makes me go to a place and feel things i cant explain. fif i love you!!! AND THE TRICK IS TO KEEP BREATHIN
what fif does it mean? the first record is THE BEST .- WONDERFUL ALBUM
pandoras charm all of their songs make me go to a place and feel things I can’t put into words and it kills me. One feeling I am able to explain however, is this weird feeling in my heart and stomach of wanting to know her in the 90’s as the age I am now. Her music videos do this especially, like “queer”or “I think I’m paranoid” but I was born in the 90’s
GARBAGE - THE ALTERNATIVE ROCK BAND
Garbage is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's lineup-consisting of Scottish singer Shirley Manson (vocals) and American musicians Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums, production)-has remained unchanged since its inception. All four members are involved in the songwriting and production process. Garbage has sold over 17 million albums worldwide. The band's eponymous debut album was critically acclaimed upon its release, selling over four million copies and achieving double platinum certification in the United Kingdom, United States and in Australia. It was accompanied by a string of increasingly successful singles from 1995 to 1996, including "Stupid Girl" and "Only Happy When It Rains". Follow-up Version 2.0, released in 1998 after a year in production, was equally successful, topping the UK Albums Chart and receiving two Grammy Award nominations. Garbage followed this by performing and co-producing the theme song to the nineteenth James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999). Garbage's third album Beautiful Garbage was also critically acclaimed, but failed to match the commercial success of its predecessors. Garbage quietly disbanded amidst the troubled production of their fourth album Bleed Like Me, but regrouped to complete the album, which was released in 2005 and peaked at a career-high number four in the U.S. The band cut short their of Bleed Like Me concert tour and announced an indefinite hiatus, emphasizing that they had not broken up but rather wished to pursue separate interests. The hiatus was briefly interrupted in 2007, when the band recorded new tracks for their greatest hits album Absolute Garbage. The band reunited in 2011, and self-released their 2012 album Not Your Kind of People on their own label Stunvolume to positive reviews. Their next album, Strange Little Birds, followed in 2016. Their seventh studio album, No Gods No Masters, was released in 2021. * And I have the great honor of having four Garbage albums in my discography. Therefore, I have two collections, Absolute Garbage from 2007, The Absolute Collection from 2012. Two studio albums, Version 2.0, remastered edition in 2018, commemorating the 20th anniversary of its original edition in 1998. And finally, Strange Little Birds , released in 2016. All albums are in CD format! * Version 2.0 is the second studio album by American rock band Garbage. It was released on May 11, 1998, by Mushroom Records worldwide, with the North American release on Almo Sounds the following day. With this album, the band aimed to improve and expand upon the style of their 1995 eponymous debut rather than reinventing their sound. Lead singer Shirley Manson wrote dark, introspective lyrics, which she felt complemented the songs' melodies. Version 2.0 was a commercial success, topping the charts in the United Kingdom, France, and New Zealand, and earning platinum certifications in several countries. The album has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States and four million copies worldwide. Garbage embarked on an 18-month-long world tour, and released a string of commercially successful singles backed with innovative music videos. Version 2.0 received generally positive reviews from critics, and was included on year-end lists of 1998's best albums by several publications. In 1999, it was nominated for Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. The album's third single "Special" was further nominated the following year for Best Rock Song and for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. ❤️💯‼️
