Nuked the toilet this morning, my worst fear came true, I clogged it. It wasn't just any dump either, yesterday I was at a mexican food festival, had the runs all morning. Where can I buy one of these? My parents get home in two hours

I'm not about to read all of the comments to be sure this hasn't been brought up, sorry if it has. What you have to understand is the way many toilets, especially the cheap ones, work. There is a tank of water, when you flip the handle it lifts the flapper allowing gravity to drain the tank into the bowl. After the flush the tank is refilled and a small amount of water is diverted to rinse the walls of the bowl. If the toilet is plugged and you flush it the entire tank will empty into the bowl and shutting off the valve will not stop it. The only way to prevent an impending overflow is to reach into the tank and push the flapper down. The biggest problem with this product is when the plastic bulges up and you push down the water will go one of 2 places; either down the pipe, or back into the tank which trust me you don't want.
No way is this better than a plunger. First, this looks like a single-use utility (as compared to a $10 plunger). Second, hopefully you make that seal nice and tight. And finally, now you have a weird piece of flimsy plastic that's covered in poo water than you need to throw out. Have fun with that.

if you clog the toilet on a regular basis than you need to flush inbetween pooping. this looks great for a singel use. its only plastic with clue on it. cant cost much
As opposed to a stick with a rubber cup on it covered in poo water and possibly wrapped in poo covered toilet paper.

This only fits one size of toilet rim, so you'll have to make dozens of different shapes. God forbid you use this in a public restroom where wiping down the toilet for the seal is going to be a blast.
The seal needs to be flawless for several reasons. my big one is pressing on the poo water you better hope that thing doesn't give way or you're in for a massive disgusting mess

I've used the plunger but it doesnt always work all of the time.
If that could do what we've seen, this is definitely the best invention I ever will need.
And besides, my toilet gets plugged 3 times or so per year, so a $24 isn't too bad of an investment.
ANd blow out the wax seal too. That's why the plunger is the best - as long as you do it correctly.

could also be used when flooding outside to prevent water being forced back up into house on ground floor.
one major issue with this is that when you flush and it didnt go down and you try to plung and the clog doesnt move, that water is forced back into the tank of the toilet, where fresh clean water sits to wait for the next flush, so basically your putting waste water into your tank and contaminates that, which it never should..
well when you flush the toilet I hope you know that it doesnt get recycled right away to the same toilet...

By the time you've cleaned the toilet off, put on the plastic, finagled it around to fit right, and then flushed/pumped a few times - you could have cleared the clog already with a plunger. That's all you're doing with the cover is covering the entire commode with plastic than just the drainage hole at the bottom with rubber.
+mrwhopperz its worse then just that, that water you are pressing needs to go somewhere and with the clog it is actually being forced back into the tank. shit, piss and all.
should have just invented a plunger equipped with an ARM processor and ANDROID OS to keep track of the number of times you've used it to push crap down your clogged toilet.

A very interesting idea. Because the water contact surface is lot bigger than the plunger, the force to push and pull are 6-10 times bigger. I would like to buy one and try if I know where it sells..

What if the seal breaks and it busts out all over the place? Also, it's a waste of resources when compared to useing a reusable plunger.

What a wonderful idea! I can see budding Artists poking a pattern of holes in this product. Then when you cover the clogged bowl and flush, one could recreate the dancing fountains of Las Vegas. You have to admit, it would create one wicked, yet messy, video clip.
Anyone else not expecting to see actual shitty water in this demo? There's a time and place for the magical blue liquid used in commercials. This is one of them.
We assume it is a #2, but it may well be coloring for demo purposes!

This is a REALLY practical idea that I wish I would have thought of.
I just bought some new plungers off amazon the other day because one of our older plungers retained water inside the plunger itself after the plunging part because of the way that specific plunger is designed.
I came across this device a couple days ago with random images popping up online after searching best plungers, etc. and saw this demo video for the first time today just now.
I think it is AWESOME! I could have used this a few days ago...

Few questions:
1) How do you know if you have made a tight seal around the toilet so your hands won't go into the toilet itself? (That's only a 10/10 on the grossness level!)
2) How does the consumer know that the plastic in the middle will hold up to the pressure of the few pushes probably required to obtain enough suction and pressure, and not break thus leading to the same issue as Question #1?
3) Without myself fully understanding the laws of suction and pressure from a toilet clog, is it required to flush the toilet again right before you apply pressure a few times? Maybe the video presenter did it for his own reason?
4) Did the backed up water have to be that high for this new method to work? (This might be another laws of suction and pressure question that I may not be aware of.)
5) How many compresses down the middle of the plastic overlay would be required for the average clog? 1 maybe for the smallest of clogs, and maybe more as the clog is worse and worse... such as this demo had a bunch of toilet paper thrown in.
I really like this idea. If they could make a flushable version, that would of course be even better! Better for sanitation, and the environment.
I am tempted to buy some to see if it really works!
I am sure it does work, as the demo shows, but the whole notion of trusting the quality of the seal around the toilet and the strength of the plastic in the middle so my hands don't fall in, or have a really big mess caused by an overflow around the seal is TRULY what makes me think, "Maybe some other time in the future!"
I'd like to try this out in a controlled experiment!

Does anyone not see that when he flushes the pressure PUSHES the cover up so there is NO contact with the nasty. Besides do people also not relies to just shut off the water to the toilet so there is no chance of an over fill. AND even if you get back pressure and it goes a bit into the tank Bleach will remove any grossness left in there. Besides who really cares if some goes back in the tank. I'm sure no one is going to be drinking from there. Well at least I'm not. And there has been a time or two where a plunger just doesn't cut it. Also the original post said use this if your plunger is no where to be found. And why are we worrying about a little bit of crap if it does leak. I know a lot of pressure and it will squirt out like a hose, but if it does work unlike a plunger that is now wrapped in crap paper and crap stuck to the underside of a plunger like glue, most people just stick the disgusting plunger back on the floor with the least bit of trying to clean it off. So if it works great product, if not poop on the floor either way.

there is if the tape doesnt seal well or there becomes too much pressure. After all , not all toilets are built the same. Also, what if it is already overflowing? it would be a nasty mess getting the rim clean and dry enough to apply this thing and it creates plastic waste every time you use one.
Well it's a tossup between a little bit of plastic waste vs the higher use of water from plunging and flushing.

as somebody who has to clean bathrooms as part of my job i have found too many clogged toilets and a plunger doesn't always work and how awesome would it be if instead of pouring chemicals i.e. Drano down it and shutting down the bathroom for a while, i had these at my disposal. to da fly how much worse for the enviroment is drano compared to a piece of plastic?

I used a much simpler solution. I attached a long thin party balloon to the end of the tube of an air mattress foot pump and poked it into the u bend. Covered seat with cling film. Then pumped away until the balloon burst and cleared the blockage!
