5 Habits for Happiness: 1. write down 3 things which you are grateful for 2. reflect on the happy memories 3. exercise 4. mediate 5. practise random acts of kindness Happiness is a choice. But happiness is foremost a skill. How should the children choose happiness if they don’t know what happiness really is? The world needs more teachers like this. Our children need more schools like this. Really inspiring talk
"My mother makes me re-write them over and over again until they're perfect." I feel ya Sarah. My mom did this with everything I wrote for school from 1st-12th grade. Ten-page term papers even! I had to stand up and type while she endlessly mulled over my work (which was already my BEST work) and thought of ways to "improve" it. I was homeschooled, so there was literally no escaping this non-stop nitpicking. The one "outside" teacher I had blew me off when I tried to come to her for help. She had to know something was up when I turned in my written test, but she ignored the signs - giving me an "A" as a student and failing me as a person for an easy life. English studies turned into a daily battle to get my ideas "to print" instead of my mother's. More than once, I promised her that I'd get A's if she'd just let me turn in my work without seeing it for one week. She never took the chance. I still loved English and wasn't about let anyone take that from me. I fought way too hard where there shouldn't have been a fight at all, and I regret it now from every angle. It's estimated that 80% of kids will be homeschooled this year. That's a lot of potential Sarahs. I wish something could be done now to help them.
What a caring teacher you are to be concerned about your impact you know you could have on your students. Yes, absolutely true that it should be taught from kindergarten and up.. Not like society all of a sudden adults need to figure it out.. How to be happy during different life crisis. 😀👍👏🌟🎇🎉
I am happy to share some of the resources that I gathered together. I am sure you will add your creative touch! There is so much out there to facilitate this kind of learning.
Love this!! Should be taught in every school. More and more of what I read about what kids need to succeed in life circles around this very idea but in slightly different language - resilience, grit, etc... But ultimately all these things will keep us balanced and happy as adults.
Inspiring! I think your efforts would be even more successful if parents were not stressed out but have a security net like free schools, healthcare, pension etc. like here in Denmark. I know the curcumstaces of your classes. So just wishful thinking. Your work is truly a reward to the children. Your positive spirit is contagious and welcomed! Good luck with continuing your good work!
Lower your expectations in life for simplicity. "Do not build castle in the air!" Count your blessings for the little you have for "half a loaf is better than none". But, literary rich for 'knowledge is power'.
Kim, Yes!!! I used a lot of the work with resilience/grit and kindness etc in the Happiness Project. Really, we learned that we cannot focus on developing our own happiness without developing our character and doing good things for the world. Funny how that works! :-)
Hello, Mrs. Threlfall!! Long time no see!! Do you remember me from IIS?? It has been few years since then... I was so happy to see you when I've found this video... How's everything??
Chelsie, This amazing teacher showed her class the Ted talk " Money can buy Happiness " by Michael Norton. The title is misleading because he talks about the 5 things to do to increase happiness 🙂 I pray everyone finds genuine joy 😀 so much deeper than happiness 👼
I am alive and well! My deepest, deepest apologies for answering this after three years... I have not received a notification that you've commented. I am currently attending The University of the Arts to expand my music careers more. This is my second semester of my sophomore year, and I am loving my classes so far.
I have to disagree with michelle peace and happiness comes from God jesus you can not find happiness in this world you can pretend to be happy the inside is always at war it comes and go jesus in the bible was allways sad he suffered a lot so we can enter heaven if we keep his comnmandments the soul is only satisfied with prayer working and fasting read the the saying of the desert fathers peguin paper back on amazon this book changes everybodys life sorry michelle yoga is false happiness and peace go ahead meditate on a tree theres no benfit to it but meditae on the movie the passion by mel Gibson there is benefit
If there is always inner war, then we doing something wrong. We definitely live in this world not for suffering but for making it a better place, just like it needed to be. And that's my Faith😃.

Totally makes sense...let's start in Kindergarten and carry right through till Grade Twelve!
That is what broaden school did for me....learning to rely on myself and seek out positive people to create a healthy network.
I am happy to share some of the resources that I gathered together. I am sure you will add your creative touch! There is so much out there to facilitate this kind of learning.
It was a lecture on happiness with great smile. Keep up the good work.

This is why teachers rule!

Hey Erin Michelle Threlfall, you know what would make a child happy? Not being raised by a single mother LOL.
its not mommys fault daddy bailed and abandoned them.
Actually..if shes happy then they'd be happy.
What a thoughtful? bizarre comment. The TED talk you should present could be “How NOT to be a Curmudgeon.”
Ohhhh someone is very jealous of this outstanding woman!
