  • In this preschool learning documentary, I’m going to teach you 10 really cool facts today, some that may be very different than what you’ve heard. some of these facts are going to really surprise you…some of them are really neat and you’re going to find it really interesting.
There is a lot of misinformation about Veloci, and in todays video, you’re going to learn all about them
    1. The Velociraptor was a fast-moving and dangerous predator dinosaur that lived about 75 million years ago during the end of the Cretaceous Period. Velociraptors lived in hot, desert-like regions. Velociraptor lived in Asia. Fossils have been found in Russia, China and Mongolia. They lived in places that were hot and covered by sand dunes. There were streams of water close to where some fossils have been found. They may have lived near the water and preyed on animals that came to drink it. Some predators still do this today.
    2. Here is something that may shock you. The Velociraptor was actually a fairly small dinosaur. It was around 6 feet long from the tip of its tail to its nose and was only around 3 feet tall. It weighed around 30 pounds. No bigger than a turkey. Some scientists believe it may have only been a little larger than a chicken. Even though it was a smaller dinosaur than you may have thought, it’s still in the top 10 most dangerous predatory dinosaurs
    3. This dinosaur walked on two feet (bipedal) and could run very fast, perhaps up to 40 miles per hour. It had 80 very sharp teeth and sharp claws on its feet and hands ideal for tearing the flesh from prey. Despite its small size, the Velociraptor wasn’t a dinosaur you’d ever want to meet in real life. While its teeth were dangerous enough, it’s deadliest weapons were on its feet
One of its claws on its feet was especially long and dangerous. This middle claw was up to 3 inches long and likely was used to tear into prey and deliver the killing blow. …With flexible ankle joints, Velociraptor could reach forward and grab its prey with this claw, in much the same way as a modern bird of prey uses its talons.
Once it had pinned its prey down, Velociraptor could start eating. Again, like many birds of prey, it may have started to eat while its prey was still alive!
    4. Powerful back legs led to an unbendable, fused tail that provided balance as the velociraptor hunted. This would have been essential, as velociraptor could reach speeds of 40mph when giving chase.
    5. Over the years the link between dinosaurs and modern-day birds has become more and more apparent. There is now evidence that Velociraptor may have possessed feathers. Because Velociraptor’s arms are too short for it to have been able to fly or glide, this may have been a retained feature left over from Velociraptor’s own ancestors.
    6. The Velociraptor had one of the largest brains when compared to its size of any of the dinosaurs. It was likely one of the most intelligent dinosaurs. This hints at a superior intelligence, and Velociraptor may have been able to use cunning and traps when hunting for prey for it to eat.
    7. Velociraptors were carnivorous, meaning they ate meat. They likely ate other plant eating dinosaurs.
    8. Velociraptors were scavengers. As well as hunting smaller prey, they would have eaten leftover carcasses killed by larger dinosaurs.
    9. It is most famous for its role in the movie Jurassic Park and used again later in the Jurrasic World movies. However, in the movies they were shown to be much larger than the actual dinosaur was. The film's Velociraptors were twice as tall as they really were, they were scaly instead of feathered, and their tails were too flexible
    10. Some people think that velociraptor hunted in packs but there is no evidence to support this idea. All the velociraptor fossils found have been solitary individuals and not groups. This leads scientists to believe that they hunted and scavenged alone.
Remember before, about hunting larger dinosaurs… What scientists believe is that If they did hunt in packs it may have been in order to bring down larger prey, and the Velociraptors would eat it as a group.
I hope you enjoy watching this documentary about the Velociraptor.
