UNC's Harrison Ingram is gone...RIGHT?! | Dayton's Koby Brea lists Tar Heels in Final 5

- On Saturday, North Carolina junior Harrison Ingram announced his intent to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. However, on Monday, Jon Rothstein tweeted out that Ingram was indeed maintaining his college eligibility despite never hinting at that initially. The move would certainly be good for roster continuity. However, a prolonged absence from Ingram would certainly put the Tar Heels in a bind.
Koby Brea included the Tar Heels in his final five, along with Duke, UConn, Kentucky, and Kansas.
Cliff Omoruyi has scheduled a visit to Kansas State and will visit Alabama this weekend.

My main concern rn is where are all these minutes going?! Most teams play 8-9 guys for serious minutes. 10 MAX. If we were to land Cade, Theiro, and a big (let’s just say Omoruyi for example), I think there is a lot of clash and roster construction issues. We’d run into having 2 five star freshmen off the bench. These dudes are ballers and surely expect to be big impact players next year. Also, Seth (if he returns), Withers, and J wash would seemingly have no increased role from last year and all come off the bench yet again. You don’t think there would be any disappointment or conflict there? I do. I have a funny relationship w the portal. On one hand, it has brought UNC so many players that I love and made our program grow, and you need to utilize the portal to be competitive; it’s just the state of CBB. But the portal also hurts long term development of dudes and can deter elite recruits from wanting to go to a school. I just want UNC to make sure they also take care of guys that have been with the program and have earned the opportunity to start. I certainly want to land Cade/Thiero and a big, but I wouldn’t aim for more than 2 transfers. If we bring in 3 starters, I’d expect a potential transfer from Seth, or Withers, or J Wash. Or potentially even a decommitment from a recruit. It’s a very fine line between trying to bring in talent for the best immediate success and doing right by guys that love this program and are ballers and deserve to have increased roles! Some UNC fans seem to think it’s crazy to have Ian, Drake, Withers, or J Wash in a starting lineup. I disagree and 100% think at least 1 of those guys can start. Love as always, go Heels! 🐏 👣
The players you're mentioning in my opinion, do not need increased minutes- withers is not a 25 to 30 min type guy on a contender, drake powell isn't either (not as a freshmen), j wash hasn't lead me to believe he can be a 30 minute starter yet either. If seth returns, I see him as a 25 minute a game guy
@@jesselocklear2000 Ay Trimble is back! Fair enough, to each their own. I’m really high on Drake. One of the best true 2 way dogs in the class and just balled out in the JBC game. He brings a unique skill set and crazy motor. Also has a grown man nba build. Always room for lockdown guys, and he’ll develop the jumper more. And I’m just a believer in Withers and J wash. J wash is ridiculously efficient offensively. If he works on quickness and strength, I think he’ll be a monster. Withers has all the talent, just needs to make smart decisions and hit open 3’s and he’s chilling. Idk I certainly think one of those dudes can be starter quality. They’ll all be in the gym developing too. Not like they’re gonna be the exact same players from last season. But I respect your opinion and we’ll see what happens 🤝 🐏
@@YungLC27 people are looking over Drake Powell and heading towards Ian Jackson despite chasing shots and not pass the ball during the McDonald’s all-American game and having Drake Powell just rely on good defense for them to win. People just want him start over him from what they’ve seen but I mean 9/21 shooting. I mean even moments during the jbc game there were times he was wide open and despite CLEARLY seeing him they don’t pass the ball and go for absolute clogged turnaround shot
Honestly jwash and withers don’t need increased minutes sadly they aren’t big impact players if we want to actually go all the way they aren’t the guys
@darylmcpherson4387 I agree with you. Neither are legit starters for title contenders. Withers has some athleticism at the 4 but that's is. J wash can score at times, but is weak defensively.
Im with Withers Ian Jackson and Drake Powell. I don't think RJ and Ingram stock can get higher. They need to go to the NBA

Not really I mean you here some Ingram is a good shooter for Carolina but at the same time you want to have a team that plays well together at all times yeah they won the ACC conference but just like throughout the year and throughout the playoffs they were either on or they were off and you can't have a team that is on one day off the next day they've got to be in sync everyday look at Connecticut and I'm not a UConn fan at all but they have a winning solution they're good on the inside and they're good on the outside at shooting and defense you have to have both you look at the 2016 tar heels in 2017 tar heels they were both really good teams the team that lost to Villanova by the final shot was probably a lot better than the team that actually won the championship the next year in my opinion as far as Ingram goes the only reason that he's keeping his option open to come back and play it's because he's just looking at where he would go at in the draft if he got drafted and if he's not getting drafted higher up and making a good payday then he's going to look at coming back for another year and that in itself to me just say that it's not about the team it's about himself and first and foremost it has to be about your team yeah I know at the end of the day when your years are up playing college you want to go play for the NBA that's everybody's dream but at the same time you have to want your team to do the best and be the best

Right now, we have a 2 man class coming in. James brown isn't ready for college, zayden high isn't ready, withers is only a descent role player, j-wash is only a role player.
This is not a star-studded roster with high hopes.
We needed key contributors to come back and a big splash in free agency, I meant transfer portal.

UNC has only lost Ryan and Bacot as far as mass minutes at this point... with Cade Tyson a any day now announcement, who is the best shooter in the portal, so add a 5 worth salt and a power forward of average contribution and yeah it's a pretty damned good roster, , As of just right now it's basically the best backcourt in the NCAA,. so tell me more about the lack of high hopes?
Fans that doesn't know much about basketball, haven't played on a high level, or coached on a high level tickle me.
All im saying is that the roster has major gaps, if those gaps are not filled this team will not be very balanced and will be very finesse.
