SWV stands for Sisters With Voices. They can all sing well. Their a capella songs (i.e., Rain) are great. You probably heard it in karaoke, a wedding, every singing contest ever, etc.
Fun Fact: This song was written by their producer (Brian Alexander Morgan) about his crush on...singer Chante Moore.
This song still goes so hard ...27 year later...SWV has so many hits. These girls were the truth and still are. You have to check out their entire discography. They all have very distinctive and unique voices. Yes, Coko is the lead singer, but Lelee and Taj sing as wells did all can hold their own. Their Harmony is sick!

Coko (lead), Lelee, and Taj! S Double-u V! When I went back and listened to older songs/albums, they were one of the first groups that I did. They're name originally was going to be TLC but T-Boz, Chili, and Left Eye got it first. Coko was a defining voice back in the 90's. Unfortunately her solo career didn't take off after they split.
You should check out "Use Your Heart", "Rain", and "Right Here" (Human Nature Remix) by them as well.
I was lucky to live as a teen when this song was hot on the charts. I feel bad for the kids now days who have to settle with what they hear on the radio now. The 90's was the golden era for R&B with so many different styles. This song is a masterpiece...I love these girls.

Sounds about right, being that SWV stands for "Sistas With Voices".
That's the reason they are called SWV meaning Sisters With Voices yes they are the bomb but, check out the group Xscape you won't be disappointed start with their first hit "Just Kick It" and they all can sing lead that's how dope they are.

This is the quintessential r&b song of the 90s.
SWV was one of the smootest groups of the 90s, if you go through their songs you find some really amazing beats and insane singing structure to it. These folks are one of the few girl groups i still listen to today from that era.

Coko has one of the most distinctive voices of all time. She sings the verses with so much passion. she has so much soul and emotion in her voice. Did you hearthe unbelievable vocal runs she does at the end? so so hard to do that. Their voices blend so good.
Timeless classic. This is one of those songs where people og a certain generation know all the lyrics and adlibs by heart. Use Your Heart, Rain, and the Human Nature remix of Right Here are other classics from them.

The thing about the R&B we got in the 90s was all the women could SANG! They were coming off the late 80s, the 70s soul singers, 60s motown singers and so that was the standard they aspired to vocally. To sing like Aretha, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan. etc. So we got lots of high quality female vocalists and vocalists in general. The men also came from that tradition of soul singers, like Teddy, Luther, Smokey etc. Well had to bring it.
This was the first R&B song I ever heard. I swear they were the start of a new era.

This was later covered by a singer named Jojo. They were so successful but paid a high price. One was Homeless and was in the Closet for a long time but they are at peace. They recently did a Tour with Salt N Pepa.

HAHA perfect start for SWV. Their names are Taj, Leelee & Coko, funny fact, before their name was "SWV"........ca you guess what it was?....TLC!!! But when they got their deal they had to change the name because another group had the name (Before Chili was in TLC a girl named Crystal was in the group so they were legitimately Tionne, Lisa, Crystal, but when Crystal was asked to leave and they hired a girl named Rozanda, but they were already TLC so they decided to assign nicknames, and Rozanda is "Chili"). Coko sings all the leads for SWV, she's the Beyonce/Diana of the group, then Taj (the tallest) has some great moments too as 2nd lead, Leelee (the shortest) has the least leads but she has a great voice too, and she's the "Left Eye" of the group in that she's the 1 with the wild personality. My top recommendations for you.
1. Downtown- (Think Anytime Anyplace lol, it's very sexual and sensual, it's dirty but it doesn't feel dirty just like Anytime Anyplace)
2. Right Here Remix- I already see & Know that's probably the next SWV video and the highest requested after Weak, and for good reason, they sample MJ's Human Nature, and might be the first act to ever sample MJ. It also has a vocal cameo from Pharrell at like 16yrs old.
3. Use Your Heart- This is my favorite song of theirs, Period, it gets no better than this, it's sexy it's smooth, it's light, it's deep, and it's another MJ sample, this time it's The Lady In My Life and Pharrell produced this one.
4. Anything - ORIGINAL 1st, there's a remix to this, that everyone's gonna request, and it's my #5 request too, but this is DIFFERENT, the original & the remix are 2 completely different energies and I think you'll love both

They have an acapella version of this song on the album and released it to radio which helped to propel this version to #1 on billboard Hot 100. You're always on my mind was one of those underground hits that few people know about. It's a piano duet that features the guy who wrote "Weak" and most of their songs.He has an incredible voice. This was arguably one of their best songs.
"Use your heart" from their second album was the only song that features one of the other girls (Taj) singing a verse. It was a small but unexpected part that shows they all really have amazing voices despite Coko always singing lead.
Coko quit the group after 3 albums in 1997. She had a minor hit with "sunshine," but failed as a solo act. They got back together in 2011, released a couple of albums, but found success with their reality show on bravo.
Their 3 most notable songs not listed here are:
One of my favorites "Rain." Listening to what you said about Sade and Anita Baker, I think you will love this, it is ethereal music.
The Missy Elliot produced "Can We"--arguably one of Missy's best tracks ever.

If you want to add some variety, you can do reactions to original songs vs. remakes and choose the winner. It is said no singer has ever touched the notes Patti Labelle hits at the end of "if only you knew" (one of my favorite songs). Patti herself said SWV came the closest. Keke Wyatt has a remake and renowned vocalists Rachelle Ferrelle did an impromptu tribute to Patti that got some praise. You can start here, if you like this idea.
One more noteworthy thing about SWV's first album. The song "Downtown" was a tribute to cunnilingus (yes, female oral sex 🤣😂). The song popularized the term "go downtown." SWV refuses to perform the son live despite many fans asking them to 🤣. The song went to #2 on the charts as it was the B side to Right here/human nature. I was in 8th grade when SWV’s album was released. I ran to purchase the entire album. The funny thing is, back then, I referred to SWV by their full name (Sisters With Voices). And when I went to buy the tape, the clerk was like “who??”. 😂😂
The song “Right here” is good by SWV...also they got a track with some Wu Tang members...fun track called “Anything”

The lead singer (Coko) has one of the strongest voices in the industry. SWV has a nice run in the 90s. Btw this song was written for Charlie Wilson and you can tell by the space and breaks they left for his trademark runs. Coko to her credit made this song her own
