I wish my forester maintained its oil level for 5,000 miles. It was my first Subaru, I loved it so much but eventually I had to trade it in due to excessive oil consumption issues. Once it had over 100,000 miles on it, it began smoking and dying on me so I eventually took it back to the Subaru dealer and traded it in for a Honda. You have a beautiful forester! I loved mine so much and wish I could have kept it. I had just invested in a set of Cooper At3’s too. I highly recommend them

I do love it when you work on Gump. Please do not get rid of the Prodrive wheels. I have always loved those since 2002 when I was able to bring on Prodrive USA to the dealer I worked at.
The Subaru oil is made by the other big Japanese oil manufacturer, Idemitsu.
The CVT should be serviced on the turbo models according to the severe schedule, not the "lifetime" 105k. Subaru does that to comply with CAFE standards.
If you haven't done it yet, I highly recommend the BG intake cleaning service to clean the carbon off of the intake valves. The direct injection doesn't wash the back of the valves and it accumulates.

From someone that has done plenty of Pre Delivery Inspections on fresh off the boat from the factory vehicles, trust me, your Gump is cleaner than new.
Eneos makes good oil, I use their 5w30 in plenty of cars, and the were an oil supplier for Subaru, along with Idemitsu, but the Dexos spec 5w30 that you got there isn't the 5w30 spec that crosses to what they supplied for Subaru. The orange label is 3703-300, the purple label that crosses to Subaru OE is 3261-300. That said, yes, it will be absolutely fine, Subaru doesn't really even have a spec of their own, just Viscosity API and ILSAC listed. Personally, I prefer Motul, but it's impossible to find on a shelf.

Have you heard of fumoto valves to replace the default oil pan drain plug? They make it so you just flip a valve and oil comes out the drain plug. Don’t need to undo the drain plug or replace crush washers anymore. Plus with the forester, with the oil filter on top. I think you can do the oil change without lifting the car.

Idemitsu makes Subaru OEM oil. It's okay oil, Eneos is okay as well. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum seems to be a popular choice for the turbo FA engine. Motul 8100 X-Clean EFE 5W30 looks like a good choice as well. Both are easier to get and probably cheaper than Eneos. As usual with oil, most anything will be alright if you keep on top of your oil change intervals and don't stretch it out. You can always get an analysis done by Blackstone Labs or another similar company and they'll give you the exact lowdown of what's going on with your oil and engine. They'll send you a free kit and the analysis is pretty cheap, around $25. Not much to pay for the insight that they give.

Im a Subaru Tech in Norway and i do these oil changes every day, they are awesome to work on! :D And you did fantastic! Loving your videos, trying to keep up whenever i can :)
About the CVT Fluid, we replace all the oil in the driveline every 4 years (60.000km/37000mi). But we live in, what Subaru says are harsh? conditions in their documentation, so we follow their recommendation.
Keep up the awesome work, you are doing great! :D Your garage is cleaner than mine (A bit jealous bout that)

3 totally even more OCD things that I do when I change the oil in my Subaru Crosstrek.
1.) I let the oil drain overnight for about 10 hours.
2.) I pour new oil into the new filter to the top then let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes. It soaks up all that oil into the filter media so then you can still flip it over and screw it on real quick.
3.) I pour a half a quart of new oil into the outer hole where you screw the oil filter on, this flows back directly to the oil pump and re-primes it. (cause I just let the oil drain for 10 hours)

First time watching you Sarah. Made me want to drive to Tucson and have you do the underside of my 2017 Forester. At my age (77) it's a bit of an issue to do that. OCD or not, I like a clean vehicle and have always believed that a clean vehicle (inside and out and under) helps it be safer and longer lived. Keep up the work you are doing, it helps more of us than you know, especially in these weird times.

Hey Sarah, I heard the genuine subaru oil filter (blue one) is actually suck. You can use a interchangable mazda filter, which is made by tokyo roki. Wayyy much better quality.

Day 3 of Self Quarentine - Sara is unscrewing every bolt, scrubbing what rust has appeared and applying oil. Also ArmorAll'ing the backside of the dash and all other interior plastics.

Very smart to use the factory subie oil filter. Would have enjoyed seeing the dealer parts guys face when you asked for a drain plug crush washer lol.

Randomness; Cut the bottom off of a Gatorade bottle the top screws in nice and tight in the Subaru 710 fill port.

Then you already know! FWIW, I’ll be putting my Miata up on jackstands and doing the same thing once the weather finally breaks here! Thanks for the inspiration!

As someone who lives in New England and drives in New England winters, I don't even try. Although I did just have to replace the piece you're polishing at 8:40 because rusted bolts just love to break and I couldn't fix it.

So we have a 17 XT gump at home, but the factory Subaru oil is made by Idemitsu. Eneos is made by Nippon, the other big Japanese oil company. Let us know how it works out! We just ran out of our "free" dealership oil changes so I bought a few oil changes worth of filters and oil from the dealership parts department.

Sarah, watching you crawl around under the car makes me long for the days of living in the Arizona desert with clean cars. I grew up in the Phoenix area but now live on the east coast where they use salt on the roads in the winter. I used to love working on my own vehicles, I don't like working on cars anymore.
You haven't lived until you've had to cut suspension pieces off with a hacksaw because the corroded bolt disintegrated trying to wrench it off.

Sarah, I would put something underneath the car just in case those lift starts to fail...if you happen to find drum brakes from 18 wheelers is the best thing for that..
