I always wondered what it meant when people talked about clay barring their car. I learned something new today. Today is not a waste. Thank you.
So far as the brake dilemma; I would think the spacer, and backing plate swap, would be your best bet. Option B would be foregoing the in drum parking brake entirely and running a hydraulic parking brake by installing a line lock on the rear brake line. Doing the full suspension swap, would be a very expensive, and time consuming, last resort.

My 2005 Legacy GT also has the 170mm parking brake. I had a local brake and clutch shop put extra-thick friction material on a new set of stock Legacy GT parking brake shoes so they would function properly in the 190mm hat of the 2004 sti rotor. I also used caliper adapters similar to the ones you show. The parking brake shoes were about $100 and now I can use an off the shelf sti rotor. Been working great for the past 6 years.

My friend and I installed the torque solutions rear brackets on his 14 WRX with DBA rotors all around for his 2007 WRX limited calipers. Don't know if they're brembo calipers, but we bent his rear backing plates slightly away from the larger rear rotors and he's been loving the upgrades ever since. We even installed steel braided hoses.
That clay DOES look like C4 plastique. Lol
Get sill plates as I don't think clear vinyl will protect against seatbelts pinched between the door and sill or your heels, especially if you wear stilettos.
I love seeing your already big cateyes get bigger. Not flirting.

Someone may have mentioned this already, but rubber clay "mitts" like the autoscrub from Nanoskin are awesome and safe a lot of time when decontaminating your paint. Keep the clay around for those super baked in bits of road grime though. Detailing will chew up time. Just did my wife's Impreza....took over 2 days.

It's kinda interesting to see how other people detail. My method is wash, dry, claybar, wipe down with alcohol, tape off seams, apply wax with hand applicator over entire car including lights, remove tape (strangely satisfying), rub it out with a DA, wipe it with a microfiber cloth. I stick to Gliptone products too. They were local where I grew up and work very well.

@Stimpy&Ren For me, when I buy a used car like my 2015 WV Polo GTi, I spent 10 hours cleaning/polishing it and I ceramic coated it. I also remove the wheels to clean the inside of the rim and the wheel well.
Then new wheels, exaust, suspension, big brakes, tune e85, and a lot of fun, 1.8l turbo engine 6 speed manual, 280hp, 380nm of torque (280lb-ft) for 1200kg (2645lbs).
Then a wash at least once a week.

I have to say, I used to detail my vehicles like that when I was young (decades ago now) and nothing else to do. But I took it even further then that. I would remove the headlights, tail lights, side market lights and everything that could be removed and clean, wax and shine to beyond factory fresh. The neighbors said they never seen anyone detail like that before. But I have to say, those days are over for me. Now a mere wash and some tire shine and drive on...

According to Brembo, rotors are always surface hardened as the last step of manufacturing. If you take a rotor and drill it, or mill it, and you do not surface harden it again afterwards, Brembo says you may experience explosive failure of the rotor when it is stressed. So by all means, customize your rotors, but make sure to restore the surface hardening (tempering) as well.

Would be cool to have the whole set, but honestly changing out the just fronts makes a great upgrade, and the fears of upsetting the bias are just not a real issue in my experience. I have a 2015 Forester 2.5 Limited (non-turbo of course) and I've found that the brakes are extremely soft, spongey, and have way too much travel before any kind of real braking action happens. I've been looking on the inter-webs for a place that offers brake upgrades for a Forester and the only place I've found is ctsvbrakeswap. Of course the adapter bracket is the critical part, but you can source rebuilt GM (aka Brembo) 4-pot calipers on the cheap compared to new ones. I was only entertaining doing the fronts, but I've already upgraded the rear rotors and pads from EBC. I've also installed an MC brace from Torque Solutions and yes the system has been properly bled with new fluid. These small upgrades have helped slightly but I was hoping for more. I just don't know if by adding the Brembo's in the front will make a huge difference. In theory they should help, but I also don't know if the MC is just weak or if there is something with the EBD system. I've read so many reports about how soft Subaru brakes are and of course, the dealers always say "it's normal." Very discouraging. I'd like to know if other people have had success upgrading their Forester brakes without spending a fortune.

Try the Turtle Wax hybrid solution Ceramic spray coating as your final coat. Safe for glass and plastic. Makes the pearl white really pop out!!! Hydrophobic properties are amazing as well as self cleaning abilities. 😎

I'm digging that Deftones 'White Pony' shirt, Sarah. Didn't know you were a fan. I've seen them live and let the band, real cool guys.
