I think Shauntay was a fine winner, although naturally I was pulling for Lenore, Miss Minnesota and think she would have won if not for how she answered her final question. I love how the girls back at this time also had very toned, muscled bodies that I find much more appealing than some of the anorexic girls today. Miss Minnesota and Miss D.C. both have absolutely amazing bodies. In the end, what I think put Shauntay over the top was her exuberant laugh at the very end of her final ? answer

I think Shauntay won because she's somewhat similar to Halle Berry who won Best Actress Academy Award earlier that year (and was first black woman to achieve that). Much like Denise Quinones won Miss Universe the year when Jennifer Lopez was super popular and they kinda look alike.
Why is the walk after the crowning so short? They cut her off. In the older miss usa and miss universe pageants they showed the winner do her whole walk and played the entire song, and then she walked and sat in her throne chair. It's like in the late 90's until now they started making the crowning moment longer, then the winner's walk shorter and no throne...smh

Shauntay is a pretty girl but I do not get a pageant vibe from her. Her poses were similar to that of a bodybuilding competition. Facially, Minnesota was the prettiest. She had a great SS presentation. Kansas had a great EG presentation. Those are the only two that belonged in that top five.

The pageant is fair. Just because there are more white girls competing means nothing. Black girls usually don't enter. Those deserving of a placement always make it. 3 out of the top 5 this year were also black. 2007-2008 were both black winners as well. 2006, first runner up. And they usually make the top 15 every year. So no, to answer your conspiracy, they are not racist.

That whole top five was weak. One of the worst top five's in the history of Miss USA. And the winner was left clapping at Universe. I think her body was to muscular for the Miss USA pageant and it turned off some of the judges at Universe.

The top 10 that year in Miss Universe 2002 was one of the best in the history & actually produced the most beautiful Miss U of all time. Oxana Fedorova of Russia was miles ahead of everyone & it’s hard for any other girl to compete with her that year. Shauntay just wasn’t in the same league of those top 10, let alone the eventual winner. I’m glad the judges that year were fair & looked way past the USA sash.
