- A former Baltimore city prosecutor has been spared prison time in her sentence for perjury and mortgage fraud. Former state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby was convicted of lying about her finances to make early withdrawals from retirement funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also was found guilty of fraud for claiming that her own $5,000 was a gift from her then-husband as she closed on a Florida condominium.

It is disgraceful that she didn't spend time in jail, but I get it. Sometimes you do so many good works in life and then make a mistake. That's when those good works come to speak for you. My issue with her case was she continued to say she was innocent, that she was being victimized. She was not; she committed the crimes.

She should not have been prosecuted, and no fair jury should have convicted her, were justice what was in pursuit. I didn't see the petition but I hope that POTUS Biden does the right thing -- pardon her so that she wouldn't lose her law license with which she was dispensing real justice.

Stretching the truth a little to take money out of your own retirement fund is really not that big of a deal. I wouldn’t call that abuse of public trust. Maybe pay a fine, but we really shouldn’t be sending people to jail for that. It’s nothing compared to what mayors Sheila Dixon and Catherine Pugh did to abuse their positions in public office, which should and did have serious consequences.
