paralentor a lot of the games were sold to Disney cast members at a private auction, while the ones that weren’t sold were donated to charities or distributed to other arcades on Disney property
I took my son to Downtown Disney, we spent a lot of time right where you were at playing those great games! Loved the vid. Keep up the awesome job John!
That collection of Fix It's is sick and with crt's? wow. John listening to you walk down that line of cabs and mentioning whats off or of note on them is awesome; tons of knowlege man. Impressive arcade, that classic room with Tron etc was nuts man, even had Jungle Hunt etc. Dude your like feeling different parts of the cabinet and say "I'm in love," then like realize you just said that out loud and abruptly end with "Alright were def done," hahaahahaha so good.
Awesome, great to have you back, getting withdrawl symptoms over here. They've changed DQ quite a bit since I was there in 2004 but the whole of Downtown Disney is different. That fix it felix looks cool, a buddy of mine makes replicas.
The arcade games that i really miss is NBA Jam, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Pac Man, Fix It Felix Jr., Ghosts N Goblins, and Street Fighter Games in Ultra arcade
Yea when you have a place like that it's all about function and just keeping them running the fastest way possible. They probably buy parts by the case and may only keep 2 different styles of sticks in stock so when one breaks whichever style fits is what the machine gets. Same thing with the LCD screens, easier to maintain and faster to fix
thanks for sharing this man. Love seeing all these great places shown by people who know what they are talking about. Sucks so many machines are using franken-parts, but still impressive that so many machines are running.
LOVED IT! loved the video man. I liked the way you used your knowledge when you was checking out the machines. Wrong sticks, wrong colour control panel, and worst of all LCD screen yuk! I doubt I will ever be able to visit this place so for me its kinda a unique video. Thanks for sharing
When I was in Santa Monica, I found an arcade on the pier that had a few retro games such as a Ms Pac Man, a Pac-Man, a dedicated Vs. Super Mario cabinet, and a few redemption games.
That also includes the bumper car gamer where you shoot each other, Roller coaster sim, a Pirate VR game that is surround video. And you get all the classic games, new games, games that move. It is totally worth $30 because they usually charge $75 a person.
it's amazing how quickly an arcade cab in a regular setting can get messed up. Those Fix it Felix cabs were in rough shape for something relatively new
"I really need to build one of these don't I?" Uhhh, looks like we just found your next video series. I will wait patiently for a johns arcade scratch build. :)
Karate Champ is one of my favorites. I must have played it when it was brand new, because it was released in july 84 and I played it that summer. Pengo is also cool, but extremely hard.
Nice video! I live near by and visit quite often. Most games were all restored by a guy here in town years back. They don't really shoot for authenticity rather than functioning games for the sake of having them, they're cheap like that. Unfortunately, when something breaks on these old games, they usually stay broken for quite some time. Pins are the worst! They are beginning to abandon CRTs that go out for LCDs in a number of games. On the up side, they still do add new games now and then.
I was at the Disney Quest in downtown Chicago. Very kool place. Several floors of games. Unfortunatly it closed down. Not sure when! It is not there any more. From what I read some Disney Quest's closed down. But i do plan to visit Galloping Ghost sometime in the near future. Located by Chicago, Brookfield area. Road trip!!
You missed the cocktail cabinets in the restaurant, unless they took those out, which is actually kind of likely. Though it still looks cool, it was much more awesome when I visited it 10 years ago. I remember seeing a Spacewar cabinet (with the keyboard button controls!), 8-player Datona USA, an old vector-based Star Wars cockpit game (I think the Atari one), Pong, and more that I can't remember. Good video!
as a kid in the 90s they had a ton of games, when i went a few years ago there where far less games and a ton of causal lame racing stuff but it looks like they've added alot of new stuff probably thanks alot to wreak it rhalp oh and i hope you got to play those crazy dino shooting game near the pirates / raft floor
So sad its gone. I wish I would have went. I am a huge disney fan and I live in califorina so I dont get out there much. First time was 2007 and with all there is to see there I kept putting it off. I wanted go see all the park stuff so much I kept saying next time. But next time also I did the same thing. I did see La Nauba witch was amazing and worth every penny. But now after seeing all the amazing games and hearing how fun the pirates game is I wish now I would have spent a day there. Now its too late. 😒
I like a lot of the new games! I really like that tank! tank! tank! game. I thought it was cool. Also had fun playing that NOS driving game. I do like the newer stff too! There just isn't a lot of newer stuff that isn't redemption.
Awesome vid john, definitely a vote from me to build a Fix it Felix Jr, you mentioned in one of your other vids you find the game a bit repetitive? Considering that FIF runs on PC hardware, you could make it your new MAME machine, make Ms Pac original again and just have one PC run Cab also, those people looked a little offended you dissed Flight control right on front of them while they were playing it, haha
I was there in 2002 and it looks vastly improved. Back then they had mostly newer games, no pinball, and only a handful of classic games, which is what I mostly played due to all the smaller turd-ass kids hogging everything else. It's where I discovered my love of Donkey Kong (I'm a 90s kid). Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
Awesome video again John. Far to many racing games in there. Sega Rally and Outrun is all you need surely? lol You get many funny looks talking to your camcorder? :)
Don't worry! I'll be finishing the Pac-Man soon! It will get all the love it deserves and before it gets too cold. It will be in the basement this fall!
That makes more sense than the Mobile games like Temple Run which nearly anyone with an overpriced phone has probably played. This goes as far back as arcade versions of Re-Volt and Quake 3 AFAIK.
That felt a bit like going through the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. Where random stuff is just everywhere. One big difference, though. Circus Circus could almost care less if the cabinet was just taking up space or actually had a functional game. Very weird.
Hey John of you google 'fix it Felix Jr mods' you can really upgrade you game with voices different hammer sounds and even happy Ralph on the cut scenes! I did it and now it feels a lot closer to the movie version.
Hello John yesterday I went to Michigan international speedway and I noticed that they had a mobile arcade called All points Mobile arcade with a Pac man battle Royale cocktail cabinet, a cruisin exotica cabinet , a C.A.R.T/IndyCar series racing game , off road thunder, multicade cabinet , centipede, millipede , and missile command 3 in 1 cabinet but all it wants to do is play centipede , ms Pacman galaga reunion cabinet , and a brand new Sea wolf game and guess what it was.
Hey John, I figured id fill you in a little bit on why you say lots of games with LCD's and wrong joysticks and parts. Let alone just painted. I am a collector, restorer, tech from NY and I also work for a vending company and do repairs for a few other companies around here. The collection at Disney is great but I cant blame them for not having fully restored cabinets. Most of the time, the people they have working on these games there have to make quick fixes (hence the wrong joysticks). Its also cheaper to do this considering kids can be extremely hard on these games! I am usually fixing things like this on a weekly basis. As for LCD's, its also just simply easier to throw an LCD in then to recap a monitor or diagnose an issue with them. Its a shame to see such classics so beat up, repaired all wrong, and yeah but like you said, its nice to still see them out there and basically working. BTW, most those coin doors looked to be blank doors like the bottom of 90's midway/atari games like mortal kombat, blitz, etc.
Its funny to me the whole time your going through its like "arg wrong joy stick, arg wrong board, arg no black light, arg again wrong damn joysticks!!!" I can actually hear the gears turning like your processing whats wrong so you can fix it. XD one too many restorations watched on my end i guess? I think what makes me happiest is im watching this going "hey thats the wrong insert item here" then john mirrors that XD
I have been here quite a few times. Although it's been atleast 5 years since I have been there, the last time I went.. Everything was pretty out of date and they had not changed much since the first time I went. Maintenance wasn't kept up either. Tourists probably don't notice as much but people who live local can see it. They still had a lot of 90s Era VR games too that weren't real good.
I love these videos but I get some serious motion sickness when watching ;) I didn't go in DQ last time I was down there, but I will for sure next time I am there.
they didnt try to make the fix it felix cabinets look old, only 105 were produced so they were actually lookig for them to buy them and then fix them up if the game still worked, thats why some have different joysticks
Hey john of you google 'fix it Felix Jr mods' you can really upgrade your game with voice mods different hammer sounds and even happy Ralph sprites on the cut scenes! I did it and now it feels a lot closer to the movie version
WOW this arcade is GIANT!!! It's 2018 I wonder if it's still there.... I live in texas though so I doubt I am going to drive to florida just to go here lol.
I mean I understand it's a business and all but Disney usually are all about the passion in their work hence the Fix-it Felix cabs. At least they got those right.
Guys, imagine if DisneyQuest was still open after Ralph Breaks The Internet came. What will they add there? (I know it was closed before it was released).
Just image how many people play those games every day and they all where on when you were there. When I worked there there was only two people that worked on games and pins..Did you go on Privates? Its one of the coolest interactive games out there..
The first racing game you've seen in the video is called:dead heat(aka maximum heat injapan)it's using almost the same racing physics as wangan midnight maximum tune)...anyway,love the video!
Great video -- I live in the Orlando area and have been here a few times. If you ever come back, you should also check out Player1Orlando -- it's an arcade bar, also all on free play. Would love to see your thoughts on their games (the have "rotations" of various cabs). First beer is on me :)
Hopefully continued display development will get us to the point where you can get comparible output. Mame has made a lot of progress with HLSL in replicating the look of old CRT's. OLED displays should have contrast levels much like a CRT and with HLSL at a high enough resolution you could get something pretty close (minus refresh rate) Not really a solution for these old arcades though unless someone makes a good upconverter.
They barely have any vector games anymore since I was last there & the LCD screens are new as well. Sad, I was looking forward to going back there to play some Star Wars & Tempest:(
anyone remember the underwater arcade at the Disneyland hotel at Disneyland in Anaheim that was my fav even liked it more then the 2 story one by space mountain
There is definitely a difference between a gamer and a video game collector. With a gamer its all about the games who cares about an original cabinet or joystick ... That's for the collectors to worry about. The video game industry is fueled by gamers not collectors. We make the industry.
This video is now a time capsule of what the last true arcade was like as Disney Quest is now closed. Wonder where all those great games went to.
paralentor a lot of the games were sold to Disney cast members at a private auction, while the ones that weren’t sold were donated to charities or distributed to other arcades on Disney property
There's still more arcade's similar to Disney Quest like Funspot
It makes me soo sad. I've gone twice and walked past the building.,...Soo many memories are lost with the closing.
I like how the cabinets of fix it Felix Jr took a lot of inspiration and also looks very similar to Donkey Kong
Disney quest no joke is one of my favorite memories of my childhood
I took my son to Downtown Disney, we spent a lot of time right where you were at playing those great games! Loved the vid. Keep up the awesome job John!
This has to be my favorite arcade walkthrough video on youtube
+cRULZ23487's Official Channel Thanks, pal!
Disney Quest was awesome! This is the place where my love for arcade games started. Crazy that I actually own the centipede that was seen at 20:00
Any idea what they did to the fix it felix games?
@@thespicehoarder probably scrapped, auctioned or moved to another Disney location
@@thespicehoarder I do know one was relocated to Disney Animation Studios
Wonderful video I have followed Johns arcade since King of kong. What a collection!
That collection of Fix It's is sick and with crt's? wow. John listening to you walk down that line of cabs and mentioning whats off or of note on them is awesome; tons of knowlege man. On my way to disney quest this weekend courtesy of a friend, need to watch this video again!
The arcade games that i really miss is NBA Jam, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Pac Man, Fix It Felix Jr., Ghosts N Goblins, and Street Fighter Games in Ultra arcade
(12:46) Oh my gosh, I was playing the heck out of that game back when I was there!
Yea when you have a place like that it's all about function and just keeping them running the fastest way possible. Thanks for sharing
loved this place when i was younger. no idea why they ever thought the nba experience would ever be close to outperforming it!
damn it, now I want a Fix it Felix Jr. console in my office.
I love how you talk about the games being "In the wild". Here's a "Frogger" in the wild.
When I was in Santa Monica, I found an arcade on the pier that had a few retro games such as a Ms Pac Man, a Pac-Man, a dedicated Vs. Super Mario cabinet, and a few redemption games.
I’ve been to this arcade last month.
Those Fix it Felix cabs were in rough shape for something relatively new
That was intentional, to make it look old
Thanks For Uploading This, Went There Myself For Hours, Had A Great Time!
one of my favorite arcade places of all time
"I really need to build one of these don't I?"
Uhhh, looks like we just found your next video series.
I will wait patiently for a johns arcade scratch build. :)
Unfortunately they are closing during the beggining of next year
Karate Champ is one of my favorites. I must have played it when it was brand new, because it was released in july 84 and I played it that summer. Pengo is also cool, but extremely hard.
Wow. Another reason I want to visit disney world.
I have been thinking about doing a Fix it Felix cabinet build for a while. It would be great to see you do one.
My favorite arcade, the only classic arcade I've ever been to.
Some pretty sweet games there! Especially the Trog. The 4 way action is awesome. You should have given it a try :)
Love the videos keep them coming can't wait for more. Have you ever thought about picking up a crystal castle for your arcade
i have blazing angles for the wii. i didnt even know it was an arcade game and now i want it

Actually a pretty impressive place, that room you found on the top floor was totally unexpected.

i agree Dig Dug. great classic arcade game

Bass Fighting, that's a game I want to see! :) *hits you in the head with a large trout*
as a kid in the 90s they had a ton of games, when i went a few years ago there where far less games and a ton of causal lame racing stuff but it looks like they've added alot of new stuff probably thanks alot to wreak it rhalp oh and i hope you got to play those crazy dino shooting game near the pirates / raft floor
The fact that all the games (at least the ones i could tell) appeared to be free to play was pretty awesome. Especially for an arcade of that size.
So sad its gone. I wish I would have went. I am a huge disney fan and I live in califorina so I dont get out there much. First time was 2007 and with all there is to see there I kept putting it off. Loved this video!
Review The Magic Thanks!
Try it in MAME and see if you like it! Cool vid BTW thanks for the tour around yet another arcade Ill probably never get to go to. :P
Great video!
Awesome video again John. Far to many racing games in there. Sega Rally and Outrun is all you need surely? lol
You get many funny looks talking to your camcorder? :)
Every time he says "wrong joystick" I feel like he getting pissed off because of that XD
Don't worry! I'll be finishing the Pac-Man soon! It will get all the love it deserves and before it gets too cold. It will be in the basement this fall!
Of course you know that Disney now owns 20th Century Fox
That makes more sense than the Mobile games like Temple Run which nearly anyone with an overpriced phone has probably played. This goes as far back as arcade versions of Re-Volt and Quake 3 AFAIK.
That felt a bit like going through the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. Where random stuff is just everywhere. One big difference, though. Circus Circus could almost care less if the cabinet was just taking up space or actually had a functional game. Very weird.
Wow this place is amazing
John this is a really cool video! but i can't believe you haven't tried Trog, you have too, also if you haven't tried Toobin' then do so, also!
Hey John of you google 'fix it Felix Jr mods' you can really upgrade you game with voices different hammer sounds and even happy Ralph on the cut scenes! I did it and now it feels a lot closer to the movie version.

I recommend you to check this place out.
(17:17) “Oh, there’s... I see games. I see Gorf.” I don’t think I saw Gorf on this part.
Hey John, I figured id fill you in a little bit on why you say lots of games with LCD's and wrong joysticks and parts. Let alone just painted. I think what makes me happiest is im watching this going "hey thats the wrong insert item here" then john mirrors that XD
That’s why a lot of the classic arcade games there have the wrong joystick.
I actually have no idea Frogger has different joysticks. The one at 7:18 has the wrong joystick, but at 17:59 it actually has the original joystick.
This place has since long closed.
I remember Front Line having a dial like that back in (I think) '81, so I think that machine in the arcade may have the original control.
If I do one, for sure! Yes!
Great vid - thanks for sharing
im just pullin you you have a great collection
I have been here quite a few times. Although it's been atleast 5 years since I have been there, the last time I went.. Fun fact, Fix it Felix Jr. has a kill screen.
well i definately need one of thoose fix it felix jr. cabinets
Me too! ;)
I love these videos but I get some serious motion sickness when watching ;) I didn't go in DQ last time I was down there, but I will for sure next time I am there.
Oh, that! This weekend! :)
I have played the Virtua Tennis game at 14:40 on a ferry,It was surprisingly addictive.
I think John WAS "pitching a tent" when he was looking at the Fix-It Felix Jr. cabinets.
they didnt try to make the fix it felix cabinets look old, only 105 were produced so they were actually lookig for them to buy them and then fix them up if the game still worked, thats why some have different joysticks
Hey John you should check out Flynn's Arcade in Disney's California Adventure located in Hollywood Backlot area
Ryann Navin i think it has closed down :(
Yep. It closed now 2 years ago.
I mean I understand it's a business and all but Disney usually are all about the passion in their work hence the Fix-it Felix cabs. At least they got those right.
Maybe they "battle-damaged" the Fix-It Felix cab so their other games don't look too bad
Guys, imagine if DisneyQuest was still open after Ralph Breaks The Internet came. What will they add there? (I know it was closed before it was released).
This is pretty cool
Shame Disney didn't commission someone to make an actual video game version of Sugar Rush or Hero's Duty, or even Turbo.
I like the ultracade is one my favorite I love it lol
They are tiny arcade games of very popular arcade video games
I remember the arcade that Space Mountain
Just image how many people play those games every day and they all where on when you were there. When I worked there there was only two people that worked on games and pins..Did you go on Privates? Its one of the coolest interactive games out there..
The first racing game you've seen in the video is called:dead heat(aka maximum heat injapan)it's using almost the same racing physics as wangan midnight maximum tune)...anyway,love the video!

Not really a solution for these old arcades though unless someone makes a good upconverter.
take a shot every time he complains about the joysticks
Yeah, I might do one next year. Stay tuned....
They also have Fruit Ninja, and a couple others that exist.
They barely have any vector games anymore since I was last there & the LCD screens are new as well. Sad, I was looking forward to going back there to play some Star Wars & Tempest:(
this is my favorite place ever
It's a GREAT place!
Unfortunately it closed down 2 years ago :(
Yeah, I agree! They certainly have the cash to seek out the right parts and monitors! WTF!?
My only complaint was, Not enough Pin's, and move the games had dim monitors. But I would love to work here as a game tech.
anyone remember the underwater arcade at the Disneyland hotel at Disneyland in Anaheim that was my fav even liked it more then the 2 story one by space mountain
I want this basement! !!!
Me too......
you missed all the music games they were on the 2nd floor they had a giant tetris as well over there
There is definitely a difference between a gamer and a video game collector. With a gamer its all about the games who cares about an original cabinet or joystick ... That's for the collectors to worry about. The video game industry is fueled by gamers not collectors. We make the industry.
At quest you can build and ride a roller coaster called cyber space mountain
Yeah, we did that! It was kind of cool.
