Thank you so much Jeremy for all these finenesses elements and ideas to practice improvisation and for your generosity in teaching. My best thoughts and thanks from France. Nicolas
I took a masterclass from Joe Pass back in the 80’s, and he mentioned that when he was a kid, he wrote down the licks and voicings and other practice ideas in small slips of paper, folded them and put them in a bag, and picked one up at random to practice every day. I thought that was a wonderful idea.
Super informative! It's easy to lose track of all the different things you can potentially practice. This makes it easy to not lose track of the key components of a good practice routine. Thanks!
Hello! i am a close friend of Rufus ferguson and you guys inspire me. im applying this to all genre of music i study. I would love a lesson with you . These ideos are so helpful considering the fact that i didnt finish school.
What is your advice on practice time per section? I think I'm gonna use this practice routine to go learn some harder Stevie Wonder tunes. I would love a tutorial about any of his songs. For the etudes, I like Bach's 2/3 part inventions to practice super clean articulation in both hands. I have transposed some of the two part ones very slowly.
Hi Jeremy, I am a piano student with a lot to do each day. I have 2 hours in a row a day to sit at the piano, do you think it would be useful to use this method dedicating the first three steps in 45min blocks and the 4th step to do it while I go to work? (I have 30 minutes round trip) Thank you very much for all your videos, I find them really valuable and I really try to squeeze them to get the most i can.
Hey Kevnick! I started when I was about 4 years old. These days, I don't get to practice too much. It depends on when I have a performance coming up. When I was in college, I probably spent 6-8 hours each day on the piano, whether practicing or in rehearsals.
As much as possible! I mean, obviously, more time is better. I think in different points in one’s journey, time allotment varies by interest and need. I’d say musicians hoping to be too professionals should spend 7-10 hours each day on their instrument (including rehearsals and performances). Folks who want to be really great amateurs should go through a period when they spend 2-4 hours per day on their instruments. For hobbyists, they need to fit their practice into their schedule.
I've decided your channel is the most info per minute on jazz piano
I will accept that honor!
Yes, I agree, as my brain just exploded.

Wow, it's seems way simpler than it actually is when you explain it, hahah! Thank you so much, Jeremy!

I love it! Things do get overwhelming if you try to do everything every day.

Great video as always! Just out of curiosity; what are your other go-to Chopin etudes at the moment?

seems like a good plan to me. Does it feel doable to you!
you're such a great player! It would be wonderful if you the audio in your videos was more clear. (mic on a stand or lapel mic). thank you
Thanks for saying this so kindly! I think I’m doing better these days (this video was from about a year ago).
Wonderful advices. Thank you so much!!
Great video I have 2 questions for you. When you started playing piano, how often did you practice? And how long do you practice now?

@@JeremySiskind thanks for responding!
Jeremy, do you give lessons to students of any instrument (like, general improv stuff), or do you require that your students be pianists?
Hi Jahoopy! I mostly give lessons to pianists, but I’m happy to give improv lessons to any instrument/.
Donna lee in contrary motion is one of the most insane things I've ever seen
Amazing!!! Thank you!
I would love to hear your thoughts on how much time we should devote to each of these parts and to an overall practice session.

I feel like I've gotten into that analogy of just taking basketball shots, I want to get out and start playing, not just snippets and voicings.
Nice! Game time is valuable!!! 🏀

Great stuff but there are distortion and low volume !
Thanks !
Hi Jeremy, is your book helpful for someone who can’t really read music?
It would be a little bit helpful, but the musical examples are pretty important.
Do you ship to South Africa?
u are the bestttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Aw, thanks, Albert. Happy practicing!
