For Crépuscule d'Octobre you should know that Octobre is a pretty important month in Québec's history. La Crise d'Octobre is an event that occured in October 1970 in Montréal.
There was a socialist pro-independance movement called the FLQ (Front de libération Québécois/ Quebec's liberation front) which started perpetrating bombings that were aimed at Canadian infrastructures like Canada-Post and banks; there were some victims which were not intended but in October the FLQ kidnapped an important politician which pushed Pierre-Eliot Trudeau (Canada's prime minister at that time) to impose martial law onto Montréal.
No one could come in or come out, there was more than 400 people incarcerated with no given reason because they were of more pro-Québécois political tendancies. People like Michel Chartrand (an important figure in the syndicalist movement in Québec) and Felix Leclerc (a well know Québécois muiscian and singer) were put in prison for 4 months and there never was any apologies from Trudeau or any subsequent government.

Forteresse is truly one if the greats in black metal. A really raw but epic take on atmospheric black metal. Stand out song writing such great aesthetics. I really love the two variant album covers for Metal noir Quebecois. Both nail down the tough history and pride of Quebec.
Also the Moribond's side projects Serment carries that forteresse sound but more synth heavy. Fantastic album

Hey I love your videos!!wanted to chime in on something…
I am québécois. And a good amount of my familly have identified with separatism in the past. I think there’s a big distinction to be made that is rarely aknowledged by foreigners between the separatism of the 70-90s and the separatism of today. In the 70-90s the movement was widely anti-imperialist, and was a result of Quebec being severely underdeveloped and exploited by the rest of Anglo-Canada and the Catholic Church . Today it is mostly a (generally) xenophobic «Quebec first movement » which has completely different aims from its previous radical movement. It’s not revolutionary by any means and it’s backed by the rich career politicians on the provincial level. Quebec is a thriving province today, culturally, economically and artistically, mostly because of that what happened in the 80s.
I love forteresse, and have been a fan for years but there’s something incredibly bogus about the The interview with Moribund when he mentions First Nations peoples in Quebec. The Canadian « Indians » as he inappropriately calls them, have been victims of centuries of abuse, exploitation and genocide ever since « quebecers » were a thing. These communities are the true victims of anglo-imperialism and are still facing the consequences today. While it’s true that many « white » Quebecois have native blood, make no mistake here…this is still native land we’re on, and it’s hard for me to take their nationalistic stance seriously. How are you going to claim a right
To independence when you’ve taken that freedom from other peoples….This is the reason many people in Quebec and Canada (rightfully) consider them a "sketch" band.
I am a fan of the band, and I can manage to separate the art from artist, but I think historical context is crucial here when you’re talking about a band that celebrates the history of a land that is still complicit in genocide.
Love your videos, I hope this didn’t come off as too preachy but I thought your audience could benefit from a little more context. :)

    • @SeregethRysgil
      @SeregethRysgil 10 месяцев назад +1

Not too preachy at all, and we’re glad to have more information and context from someone who’s actually québécois!
Context is important and I appreciate you explaining it clearly and providing us some additional context.

I agree on some part about some of the current sovereignist movement. But it becoming less and less true. As being myself a sovereignist and being very invested in politics and activism I can tell you that the younger sovereignists (Young millenials and Gen Z) are far more open and progressive on a lot of topics.
Any kind of sovereignists that listen to groups like Cowboys Fringants and Loco Locass and actually listen to their message understand that sovereignty is not something to achieve because we're better than others or because we are xenophobic but moreso because we just want to exist and be recognized as what we are.
Also as for the first nations part, the Québécois independantist movement is more and more trying to find ways to help the eleven first nations of the territory achieve what they want. And the «taken freedom from other people» part is true but needs to be contextualized; Before the conquest by Great-Britain, the Canadien (read here current day french-canadians and québécois) were in peace with most first nation on the territory, there had been wars yes, but first nations where not forced to become serfs of the French King or anything of the sort, they were recognized as human beings and a huge chunk of french people even prefered living with the people of the land because it granted them better freedom (big reason why there was and is still a Métis people, and why a lot of French-Canadian has some first nation ancestry). La Grande Paix de Montréal which regrouped most of the indigenous people of the americas and New-France was signed in 1701 and was only broken by the Guerre de Conquête (French-Indian War in english history books).
After the conquest there was worse treatment of the first nations but it was mostly perpetrated by the Federal Government and the Catholic Clergy even then violence against the first nations in current day Québec was magnitudes of time lesser than in the rest of Canada. The residential schools (which were mostly runned by the Anglican church and Federal Government) still made a ton less damage in Québec compared to the west and Ontario. There were 19 deaths and disappeared people from the schools in Québec, it was 427 in Ontario and 691 in Alberta.
      nctr.ca/memorial/
      fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pensionnats_pour_Autochtones_au_Canada
And to be clear it does not excuse any of the actions made against the first nations in Québec and any actions taken against other human beings in the way they were done is despicable. But it's just not comparable to the pain done by the British Empire and most of that pain was only perpetrated after we lost our freedom and was arguably mostly done by our rulers.
We need justice for our first nations brothers. Their rich and multiple cultures and languages must be preserved, and we must help them!
C'est pas tout le monde d'indépendantiste qui sont des fachistes de Nouvelle Alliance. Moi même je me considaires socialiste.
