    "Throughout the world" is rather an exaggeration; US Marines in the pacific were still bogged down in the mud and rain fighting the Japanese, so they sure didn't feel like celebrating, and Poland, Czechoslovakia, and other Eastern European countries that were occupied the Germans simply traded one occupier with another and wouldn't get their freedom until the fall of the Soviet Union almost 50 years later

    Sorry, its a long response- but WW2 was monumental. :Today is the 75TH anniversary of Victory in Europe, VE Day. A momentous achievement by the allies and those who served, in all capacities. So much welling up of emotions, relief, and thankfulness in these crowds. I think calling this generation of Americans "the greatest" is not an understatement, but a fact. They knew hardships, tragedies and sacrifice that they handled so heroically, and well. Thank You for your sacrifices , and to those who gave their all, Rest In Peace. To the civilian victims of the war, the citizens, Holocaust victims, etc. I grieve and remember you. These celebrations are so emotionally charged, and, uplifting. An end to this terrible conflict. Allies then could concentrate on defeating Japan, and stop WW2 for the good of ALL. I pray this was the last global War and that we would react as well as the previous generation did. They were outstanding in so many many ways. God Bless America, and thank your to our staunch allies.

    Who else tears up?

    • @epa316
      @epa316 2 года назад

      @Władysław Blame Germany. Britain and France went to war for Poland. And we couldn’t push the Russians out without starting World War III. And Poland is free today, aren’t you?

    • @epa316
      @epa316 2 года назад

      @Władysław Umm.. wrong! The German invasion of Poland is what triggered declarations of war from Britain and France. And, after Germany was defeated, what were we supposed to do then? Try pushing the Soviets all the way back to Russia? Which is exactly what many German generals wanted to do. There was no way to free Poland from Soviet occupation, without triggering all-out war with them, which would have gone nuclear. Sorry, Poland is not worth a global nuclear war.

    • @epa316
      @epa316 2 года назад

      @Władysław But the Soviet army was unstoppable then. The US, Britain, and what was left of Germany combined couldn’t have pushed them out of Poland.

    • @epa316
      @epa316 2 года назад

      @Władysław Don’t be stupid. The Soviet Union was very powerful then, and there was no realistic way for the US and Britain to push them back out of Eastern Europe without triggering yet another war. And that’s the simple truth, like it or not.

    • @epa316
      @epa316 2 года назад

      @Władysław I’m not your “mate.” And of course the USSR was very powerful. They pushed the Germans all the way back to Germany, and also attacked Japanese troops in Asia. And there was no realistic way to push the Soviets out of Eastern Europe without starting a new war with them. So, Poland had to live under communism for decades. That’s still not as bad as the Holocaust. At least Poles weren’t being actively slaughtered after the war ended. If you don’t like being conquered and ruled over, then learn how to defend yourselves.
