There was this woman who claimed that if a woman chooses to give birth, then there is inherent value in the baby. If the woman doesn't choose to give birth, then there is no value in the baby. It is kind of ironic. The most diehard pro-lifers i have met are women, too. Abram and Sarai, Jacob and Rachel, Elkanah and Hannah, Zacharia and Elizabeth, infertility actually plays a major role in a number of stories in the Bible. If Bill knew anything about any of these topics he might have heard of one of those.
One thing that kind of hurt for me to hear is that many fertilized eggs pass right through the uterus and don’t start maturing. I kind of had to internalize that and come to the conclusion that, yes those are individuals that never got a chance at life, but when it’s viable and you have to go out of your way to kill it that’s where I draw the line. It’s murder when it’s intentional.

What you're seeing is someone confused by warring impulses. He thinks that telling people what to do with their bodies is wrong, but he has to deal with the fact that means letting mothers kill their babies. We are designed with an imperative to protect the children among us, so his deepest instincts are screaming at him that he's on the wrong side of this. He's also smart enough to know his argument is pure doubletalk, logically vacuous. It's a pretention to science that lacks an actual structure to connect the handful of (questionable at best) facts he's gathered into a coherent argument to support his position. I feel sorry for him. That's a rough place for anyone to be in, and here he is on public display in the midst of it. What you're seeing is a man in desperate need of prayer. And a bible study. It did seem to me he was desperately trying to avoid hitting the issue of when human life begins too hard. I used to be pro-choice and that's the issue that changed my mind.

The amount of millennial pandering in the modern media climate is nauseating. And I say this as a 31 year old who all this stuff is geared to because of the nostalgia effect of being a kid in the 90s
I mean there are a few parts. He starts by noting how often the same materials and resources that have the potential for life, don't, yet these "children" are not mourned or seen as mistreated in any way. If plan B would facilitate this same action, but at a rate far lower than is naturally occurring, conception would need to always rear a child or the lost potential of life in general would need to become a greater issue, not only when it occurs through non-natural means. The next major part is "Do not tell women what to do with their bodies". Many here are saying "oh look its a man giving his opinion on abortion, how ironic!". But his view is literally to give them the freedom to do what they want and no one has any right to tell them otherwise. The fact that the "Debunkers" keep going back to the "what does every time have to do with anything" says that they dont understand the argument at all either...

As they state, just because an egg is fertilized, does not mean it will attach itself to the uterine wall. Every time a man and woman has sex there is a chance, and if they are not taking particular care to monitor cycles and conditions a very high chance, that the impregnation will be unsuccessful. These are miscarriages, and are thousands of times more likely to occur than any other type. If you are taking into account the trillions of sperm which do not produce a viable child, well then thats even more failed instances, but if you want to go by the "unique DNA" definition, than the prior situation is more apt for your position. These countless miscarriages do not go mourned. They are just failed attempts at procreation, met with a bit of disappointment and another attempt, and little afterthought. Yet in these instances, when the fertilized egg, containing a unique DNA strand, is expelled, there is no mourning, no call to action. How is it different? Are we only to mourn the miscarriage of an embryo or zygote? Is it us being aware and waiting that gives that life value? Either you need to mourn every failed impregnation, or you need to define when the cells become a human. Its an incredibly hard question to define, but either way YOU are telling a woman when is too far. You better have a serious reason to try to take someone's freedom to control their body. And please try to understand what the argument is before you try to "correct" them. It wasn't that complicated of an idea to grasp

I've always kinda questioned how much he actually believes what he says. I think at some point, his science guy money started to run out (probably from buying bow ties), so he just started taking checks to use his clout and nostalgia from the TV show and say whatever is trending on Twitter.

So, one of my friends at the store I work at was sexually assaulted by her ex and knocked her up. But, instead of going through an abortion because she hated the guy, and she had PLENTY of reason to hate him, she at first decided to give it up for adoption, until her parents agreed to help her raise it. When I asked her why sh didn't consider an abortion, she told me that she didn't want to be a worse person than her ex. Your friend is genuinely an amazing person. That's an amazingly mature and selfless (I'd even say downright maternal) decision she made. She's not only a better person than her scumbag ex with what she did, but she's a better person than every woman who's walked into one of those abortion clinics as well. There are some stories of the woman being psychologically healed of the rape after having a baby, because she realizes something good came out of that bad thing. I have no scientific data on how prevalent that process is, but the pro-abortion people don't have data on their version of the "woman will feel repulsion towards the baby, because he/she will make her remember the raper" neither!

As left wing used to mean liberal but now it's the most authoriterian of the two. The reason for subsidies being a problem for the right wing primarily , however, is due to that most religeous minded people also belong to that group. And for many religions i.e. Christianity, Islam Judeism, Hinduism just to name a few known ones, if you pay into a system that provides for something, you helped provide it. They may believe you have the right to abort a child, but they disagree with you claiming the right to make them moniterily complicit in what they consider child murder. So it is quite a complex issue. But honestly, I think the issue is artificially being not solved to keep using it for rage points from both sides to garner votes. In reality this can be solved by subsidising birth control instead, which is currently an out of own pocket cost. If it is free for people to not get pregnant, then neither of the two parties have a problem. But they are not gonna do that because it is not about solving problems, it's about getting into power by way of votes. Hence again my dislike of the whole left vs right. @Bullet Anarchy In a way yes. But in a large way it's not even close. Because while yes, it is the same in the sense that they are also forced to pay for wars they might disagree with. A war is a matter of national security and is done for the country as a whole and all it's citizens. Meanwhile abortion is always a personal case performed as a result of a person's lack of self-control and responsibility more often than not. It's like comparing state funding of city road building to having your house renovation subsidised by the state. But in a way, the way of being forced to pay for something they consider parnicious is the same. But unless raped, people don't become pregnant without their own consent to the risk of it. The number of those people makes up over 85% of those requiring an abortion, so it could have always been prevented aside from the rape cases. In that way, you can hardly compare it to military action done in the name of the nation as a whole. And like I said, this problem can be easily solved by subsidising birth control instead. There is hardly an equally as easy fix that can be mustered up for funding military action.

Very well stated. The arguments peddled by the left to justify the most heinous and disgusting positions are built entirely on faulty premises. Abortion is evil. Even in the cases of rape or incest, which are undoubtedly evil acts, abortion does not correct for the evil. It compounds the evil by committing more evil.
Bill Nye was fun as a children's "edu-tainer", but he has lost credibility as any sort of scientific authority on anything. His modern show hosted a woman singing about her "sex junk", which included the line "give someone new a handy, then give yourself props!"8 to which Bill responded "yes! That is exactly the message we want to send!" I fail to see what is scientific about encouraging indiscriminate sexual promiscuity. When he went on an interview with Tucker Carlson, he spent more time pedantically timing exactly how long tucker had been speaking for, instead of actually defending his stance. I mean believe or not, mechanical engineering does quite a bit of science and mathematics and that’s what engineering is. Of course, a physicist or a chemist with a PhD in their fields and made contributions, have a lot more credibility when it comes to more complex sciences than an engineer. I do agree with that Bill Nye has seemingly turn into a leftist politician rather than “science guy”.

The Pro-Life argument has evolved as a result of science. From religious history, it was believed life starts at 12 weeks not conception. This is about the time when delta brain waves become active in the fetus. The conception belief came from a realization that a life is forming once a sperm cell enters an egg.

If I swore on my kid, and they died because I was lying, I would be considered an evil person. It would not be "okay" for me to do that. The ultimate desire in this scenario is for the kid to survive. If the mother had a miscarriage it would be considered an evil act by the mother and probably murder. In this scenario if a woman swore to God she didn't cheat and then had a miscarriage she would probably be stoned to death or exiled for murder. The women in this scenario would have the choice of either honesty or "an abortion". In this case abortion is far from "okay" and it wouldn't be the husbands fault since his wife makes the final decision. The "abortion" would be the wifes fault and she would be punished for it because that behavior is completely unacceptable.

He thinks that telling people what to do with their bodies is wrong, but he has to deal with the fact that means letting mothers kill their babies. We are designed with an imperative to protect the children among us, so his deepest instincts are screaming at him that he's on the wrong side of this. He's also smart enough to know his argument is pure doubletalk, logically vacuous. It's a pretention to science that lacks an actual structure to connect the handful of (questionable at best) facts he's gathered into a coherent argument to support his position.

If plan B would facilitate this same action, but at a rate far lower than is naturally occurring, conception would need to always rear a child or the lost potential of life in general would need to become a greater issue, not only when it occurs through non-natural means.

As they state, just because an egg is fertilized, does not mean it will attach itself to the uterine wall. Every time a man and woman has sex there is a chance, and if they are not taking particular care to monitor cycles and conditions a very high chance, that the impregnation will be unsuccessful. These are miscarriages, and are thousands of times more likely to occur than any other type. If you are taking into account the trillions of sperm which do not produce a viable child, well then thats even more failed instances, but if you want to go by the "unique DNA" definition, than the prior situation is more apt for your position. These countless miscarriages do not go mourned. They are just failed attempts at procreation, met with a bit of disappointment and another attempt, and little afterthought. Yet in these instances, when the fertilized egg, containing a unique DNA strand, is expelled, there is no mourning, no call to action. How is it different? Are we only to mourn the miscarriage of an embryo or zygote? Is it us being aware and waiting that gives that life value? Either you need to mourn every failed impregnation, or you need to define when the cells become a human. Its an incredibly hard question to define, but either way YOU are telling a woman when is too far. You better have a serious reason to try to take someone's freedom to control their body.

When I asked her why sh didn't consider an abortion, she told me that she didn't want to be a worse person than her ex.

There are some stories of the woman being psychologically healed of the rape after having a baby, because she realizes something good came out of that bad thing. I have no scientific data on how prevalent that process is, but the pro-abortion people don't have data on their version of the "woman will feel repulsion towards the baby, because he/she will make her remember the raper" neither!

@Bullet Anarchy I honestly don't care about right and left as such. I believe the terms to have been dilluted and misused. As left wing used to mean liberal but now it's the most authoriterian of the two.
The reason for subsidies being a problem for the right wing primarily , however, is due to that most religeous minded people also belong to that group. And for many religions i.e. Christianity, Islam Judeism, Hinduism just to name a few known ones, if you pay into a system that provides for something, you helped provide it.
They may believe you have the right to abort a child, but they disagree with you claiming the right to make them moniterily complicit in what they consider child murder.
So it is quite a complex issue. But honestly, I think the issue is artificially being not solved to keep using it for rage points from both sides to garner votes.
In reality this can be solved by subsidising birth control instead, which is currently an out of own pocket cost.
If it is free for people to not get pregnant, then neither of the two parties have a problem. But they are not gonna do that because it is not about solving problems, it's about getting into power by way of votes.
Hence again my dislike of the whole left vs right. If anyone ever seen WWE Wrestling, tis the same kind of thing to an extend.

Because while yes, it is the same in the sense that they are also forced to pay for wars they might disagree with. A war is a matter of national security and is done for the country as a whole and all it's citizens.
Meanwhile abortion is always a personal case performed as a result of a person's lack of self-control and responsibility more often than not.
It's like comparing state funding of city road building to having your house renovation subsidised by the state.
But in a way, the way of being forced to pay for something they consider parnicious is the same.
But unless raped, people don't become pregnant without their own consent to the risk of it. The number of those people makes up over 85% of those requiring an abortion, so it could have always been prevented aside from the rape cases.
In that way, you can hardly compare it to military action done in the name of the nation as a whole.
And like I said, this problem can be easily solved by subsidising birth control instead. There is hardly an equally as easy fix that can be mustered up for funding military action.

His modern show hosted a woman singing about her "sex junk", which included the line "give someone new a handy, then give yourself props!"8 to which Bill responded "yes! That is exactly the message we want to send!" I fail to see what is scientific about encouraging indiscriminate sexual promiscuity.

I mean believe or not, mechanical engineering does quite a bit of science and mathematics and that’s what engineering is. Of course, a physicist or a chemist with a PhD in their fields and made contributions, have a lot more credibility when it comes to more complex sciences than an engineer.

The Pro-Life argument has evolved as a result of science. From religious history, it was believed life starts at 12 weeks not conception. This is about the time when delta brain waves become active in the fetus. The conception belief came from a realization that a life is forming once a sperm cell enters an egg.

@@Linkedblade that's an interesting interpretation of the verse. But it is an incomplete understanding of the language. If I swore on my kid, and they died because I was lying, I would be considered an evil person. It would not be "okay" for me to do that.
The ultimate desire in this scenario is for the kid to survive. If the mother had a miscarriage it would be considered an evil act by the mother and probably murder.
In this scenario if a woman swore to God she didn't cheat and then had a miscarriage she would probably be stoned to death or exiled for murder.
The women in this scenario would have the choice of either honesty or "an abortion".
In this case abortion is far from "okay" and it wouldn't be the husbands fault since his wife makes the final decision. The "abortion" would be the wifes fault and she would be punished for it because that behavior is completely unacceptable.

Given that there are no 100% risk free forms of birth control, if a woman doesn't like a guy or want to create a baby with his genes, a simple choice would be to express her right not to have sex with him.

It really is frustrating when “scientists” or medical practitioners act like moral authorities. They think that because they may have studied some of the mechanics of the issue they also understand the values and moral implications of the situation. This happens the most in the abortion debate.
