Mate, I literally just came down out of the Ruahines, got home, cranked my heater, ripped my wet clothes off, poured myself a beer, sat down and then got the notification for your new vid. Talk about perfect timing! What an awesome trip brutha. I'm the same with poles. Anything rocky or anything where you need to climb and grab stuff poles are annoying. Once you hit the flat even stuff that's when the poles come out. I'm pretty sure I've seen vids where they've used that cable way so I think you're right about the high river. Anyways cheers for another banger and bring on the next. Yeah buddy!! 👍🤙
At 4:44 he's showing the plaque to Deryck Morse, a stalwart of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club, and whom I met in 1971. The Anti-Crow hut that preceded the Forest Service hut he camped adjacent to would have been 100 years old next year. I believe my pal Pete' left the door open when the open fire was roaring, and the wind blew embers everywhere, destroying the hut in 1977/78. It was a tired old darling that attracted rodents and rot but served mountaineers and trampers well for 50 years. The Clough Memorial Cableway he mentions at 9:44 was erected in memory of Alan (C)? Clough who drowned. Way up the head of the Wilberforce Rvr between Park-Morpeth Hut and Browning Pass is the Clough Memorial, also to him (Allan F. Clough.) The Dept Of Conservation want to remove it as it's unsafe. I don't consider a cableway there is a necessity. Learn to cross rivers at minimised risk or don't cross them if you can't. This is a better clip of the many I've watched. Well done.
You create amazing content Z ... the countryside is stunning .. beautiful waterfalls and sunrises and sunsets to die for. You cover a lot of ground in a short time if it was me I'd take forever cos of looking around at all those aspects. Thanks for sharing my friend it's always such a pleasure to accompany you on your adventures. Bushyboy Oz.
Another great journey, BK. So much to like in this one (as in all of your posts). Your footwear doesn't look as though it could stand up to that rocky terrain, and with the stream crossings creating wet conditions for your feet I imagine they have to dry out quick before any potential blister spots start. Do you lace them really tight? Are they a special construction? I only comment on this because I never went into the mountains back in the day without hefty hiking boots, and always had a pair of neoprene socks for crossings in the hope of heading off foot problems which I experienced only once and never made the same mistake again. You must have a work around! Anyway, never miss any of your posts, top-shelf in all aspects. Thanks for taking the time to create another great adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Cheers.
Thanks Rick. Yeah I prefer trails runners for 3 season tramping as they are way lighter and dry quickly. The downside to them is they don't last nearly as long as boots but I feel the trade offs are worth it. I don't feel I need the ankle support either. I have found using an injinji toe sock liner and a light cushioned sock over that works best for me. I haven't had blisters since hiking TA. Cheers
Hey mate, what a hike. A few years back I did a mission to Carrington took us about 6 hours in, but we ran out the next day and did it in 4 hours from carrington to the highway! Love your work, keep it up.
Love your videos Zeb, thanks for filming the trip to share. Does your sleeping bag have a water repellent outer? Just wondering about the dew when you sleep out in the open, or under your tarp. Cheers.
Thanks so much Laura. Nah my bag doesn't have a water repellent outer but the down is dry treated so it drys quicker and isn't as affected by water. Getting a bag wet for one night isn't going to do much damage as long as it isn't stored wet. Cheers!
That was a beautiful video, man I miss Arthur’s pass such a incredible outdoor play ground. If you feel like doing a epic adventure on the other side.,. Head up deception river onto the Edward hut then round to Otehake hut pass the hot pool and back to decption bridge took us 4 days a long time ago now but still remember it being a epic trip

I hope you had a great time out. Cheers for watching mate!

Amazing sunrise and sunsets. What a great experience. Never thought about walking in at night to a camping site. That's next level!
Thanks Adam. Yeah going in after work opens up a few more opportunities. Especially when I don't have time for a proper 2 day trip.
Cheers mate

Thank you mate! It's stunning terrain. Sometimes I do just want to sit down and take it all in, absolutely love it out there.
Cheers
Those km come easy these days zeb. Most people take 2 days and you do it in a day. Legend.
Cheers mate. I enjoy it, nothing wrong with taking your time but I enjoy the challenge.
