To be fair we all know when Rozemyne eventually dies of old age in that world it will be in a library with an opened book in her hands and a creepy large grin on her face! 😀
Surprisingly, despite how much heavy lore stuff happened in this volume, what stood out the most for me was Lieseletta's behavior after Rozemyne's ordonnanze following her return. Our shumill-crazy near-perfect attendant, despite being quite concerned with propriety, had no qualms contacting Royals after diner time, pretty much ordering them around without a care in the world. It was such a testament of how, while Hartmut's and Clarissa's craziness stands out so much, every single one of Rozemyne's retainer is insanely devoted to their Lady. And that confirmed to me how utterly stupid are all those who firmly believe Rozemyne hasn't what it takes to rule. She's likely the most suited to rule in the entire series, because no matter what her flaws can be ( everyone has flaws anyway ), she has an astounding talent for wining over the loyalty of others. Yurgenschmidt's nobles can't understand her nor help underestimating her because they don't realize she has no need for most of their daily schemes and methods, proper and competent people are naturally drowned to her and then strive to grow just for being of use to their Lady. She's a natural ruler, she can make things running smoothly without breaking a sweat.
To be fair, Rozemyne was missing for an entire season. If someone vanished without a trace for a month and you got a late night text from them asking for help, im sure youd also jump out of bed and rush to them asap. I agree with your analysis about Rozemyne being a natural leader due to her skills at delegation and guidance.

Part 4 Vol 9 is not the first hint about the location of the foundation. In part 1 Vol 3 in the chapter "To the Baptism Ceremony" Myne describes the Temple for the first time as follows. "The temple, visible from the plaza, was made of white stone and was as tall as the inner wall, which was even taller than the outer walls. It was a large and magnificent building, but judging by the tall, narrow windows lined up near the top and the way it was built into the wall, I could guess that it was originally built as a fortress or otherwise as part of the wall’s defenses." Omg, I was not expecting everything that happened after Rozemyne entered the Hall of Beginnings. I mean, the web of plots and revelations as well as how we circle back to her original motive of attaining a library was simply too well done.
I will be sad when the last book drops in September. I want to read it now, but will be over 😢. At least we still have several more moths of your excellent reviews. And hopeful for more anime adaptation.

The Ascendance part of the story is ending. The story is actually continuing in Rozemyne's 5th year, but from Hannelore's perspective. It's a legitimate spin-off series.
Wasted as it is, on a piece of absolute garbage from the start like her, but I reluctantly have one point to make about Detlinde: She's been drugged by Leonzio for weeks at this point... you know, like what made Letizia do his bidding from just one application, so it's pretty much impossible to know, how much of this casual cruelty is her own, and how much is Leonzio's manipulations and/or side effects from essentially being high 24/7. This isn't hard-confirmed, but strongly hinted at. First we learn that Trus - a drug to manipulate the mind and make people more likely to follow suggestions - has a sweet smell. When Leonzio arrives, there's a constant sweet smell around him. And to hammer the final nail in the coffin, we just saw how his suggestion made Letizia pull the silver tube (i.e. party popper) at Ferdinand, when she had no reason to. If she was going to use it as leverage, she's gift it to him, not activate it. Detlinde always had a dismissive and vindictive, but outright deciding the murdering someone, right in front of the little girl for whom the victim is like a mother, just for not being quiet... that seems too far even for her. And by just going in and doing the murder without hesitation or comment, or how he just murdered a whole room of people, some of whom were loyal to Detlinde, shows that he's very much not a victim here, who's reluctantly following Detlinde's whims, but certainly one of the culprints and a monster down to his soul, probably evne worse than Detlinde. Because unlike Detlinde, he's not ignorant. It's back to the usual issue with Detlinde. When she's not present, I kinda-sorta feel sorry for her, since she was turned into this part clueless idiot, part cruel monster by her own mother intentionally, for the crime of looking too visually similar to her grandmother. But then she enters a scene and I can only think of how much I'm going to enjoy her eventual humbling and demise. But I have no issue like that with Leonzio: Unlike Detlinde, he chose his path in life and as we later learn, even the person she's supposedly working for thinks Leonzio needlessly brutal and cruel.
To be frank, Dumblinde is the kind of person I would pay just to punch them in the face ( for what she displays all the time prior to her encounter with Leonzio ), but she's overall treated quite unfairly by the community, all the more comparatively to her cousin Wildumb. Most in the community spend much energy to complain about the poor Wildumb who would be a victim of truly unfortunate circumstances while being such a good and competent person otherwise while Dumblinde would be absolutely free of her own circumstances and thus the absolute worst ever people and as much as I despise the kind of people Dumblinde grew up to become, her own circumstances are a billion times worse than Wildumb's and her insufferable behavior is entirely explainable by her circumstances while why is the excuse for Wildumb to never, ever choosing to follow the many good advice he received throughout his life and always following the worst ones, to always complain about his so-called lack of helping hands or consideration without ever taking into consideration how so many competent people went out of their way to save his sorry ass, to be literally the only character his age to act like a 5 years old contemporary earth in industrial power nation child all the time ?
It is highly implied that Detlinde is a young Veronica so while she might have not turned out like Vernoica if she was raised by a NON-psychopath, Detlinde does not value anything other than herself and her own interests. In short while Detlinde and Vernoica are victims of noble society they choose to embrace evil rather than question it like Rosemyne does.

If Wildumb and Dumblinde circumstances were reversed, I'm pretty sure Wildumb would have turned like Dumblinde, perhaps even worse and everyone would be lamenting poor Dumblinde's circumstances :p.
I don't think trug has ever been even *implied* to impact your morals at all. Letizia was drugged into believing that using the party popper on Ferdinand would convince him to help her find Roswitha. She didn't know there was poison in it at all. That's not to say that there's no way you could be forced into doing something you wouldn't normally do while under the influence of trug, but rather that-judging by Letizia's behavior and a future example I won't spoil-the amount of trug required to force you to do something like that would (temporarily) turn you into a zombie. It would be very clear that she's acting odd, but she was acting like usual and reacting mostly normally (for her). I would absolutely not be so quick to excuse her behavior as uncharacteristic. It seems most accurate to say that trug doesn't influence your personality, but instead your sense of what is real. It changes what you believe to be true, which also further explains why it's difficult to read the memories of those affected by trug. Their memories seem warped and unclear.
The fear that at the current exponential growth the final video will be about 6 hours long - though to be fair I wouldn't mind, always fun to get TTW's perspective on the series. :)
So much bad anime this season and watching this one.. "Oh, right, this is what a good series makes you fell, thinking about it, it has nuances, good foreshadowing, consistent script, independent characters" One of me favorite conversations in the entire series is this one over the water mirror. She dropped the 'I have the book' at the after he accepted the proposal as the higher one in status, what makes him a true ally. Had he denied the proposal and discovered that latter, he would be forever blamed for losing this spot of grace, to be in the inner circle of the probable next zent. That is Mine taking on Benno negotiation lessons, revealing the appropriate info when the time is right. But.. he would never actually refuse, he would hang on that invitation until he is kinda convinced. He was truly smiling at the end of the conversation, and just needed any excuse to convince his wife. Rosemyne is the one who beat Dunkelfelger multiple times at Ditter with a weaker team and resources; she is responsible for the ritual's revivals, the use of the true lance, the return of treasure stealing, and the Ditter fictional stories. The adults of Dunkelfelger only hear and read about her over and over again, she is not only Ehrenfest's saint, but Dunkelfelger's as well, and now, bearing the Grutrissheit she invites them for true Ditter, what do you think is going to happen?
Well, Lady Rozemyne is an expert in handling Dunkelfelgerians, she had no risks of failing ( and to think she still believes she wouldn't have survived in Dunkelfelger... my Lady, you're basically already an half-Goddess, in Dunkelfelger ^^ ) :p.
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for this series of videos, I was an anime only watcher until I watched your videos about Part 3 and realized I wanted to pick up the light novels for myself. And now that the last volume released today, its a bit bitter sweet to see the series end, but wanted to say thanks non-the-less.
A little hint here for pronunciation: Basically everything is based in German, most of the god's names translate directly from German. :) So, the pronunciations are pretty much German, except for Damuel... The Author meant it to be Samuel, had a typo and liked it. So... it is pronounced as Samuel but with a D. :)

She is from a higher standing family so her name remaining Myne would came across as weirdly too simple, considering the plan was to always baptize her if her fake background was to be trusted about hiding her in the temple under the tutelage of Ferdinand. It has already been establish that the orphan Veronican children left in the temple are the kids that were backups that were being raised to be servants and/or children of 2nd/3rd wives. It wouldn’t be strange for Dirk to have a super simple name compared to Rosemyne and no one would care to look into the history of a criminal’s kid. Dirk also doesn’t have nearly as much to hide compared to Rozemyne.
Spoilers Little hint at the end that the royals are planning on having Rosemyne live in the villa that was traditionally for mistresses/ the villa Ferdinand was saved from. (Raublut couldn't move as he wanted because they were setting the villa up for the adopted daughter)… Man I hate the royals.

the synchronization potion has no aphrodisiac effect. The reason married couple use that is so that their mana can easily "mix" while baby making. Remember when ferdinand healed myne during trombe incident? It hurt myne for ferdi to heal her. Anytime one person is used on another person with mana, the other person's mana automatically tries to repel it. using the potion merely facilitate the interaction.

Actually, Rozemyne becoming Zent would literally be the ultimate achievement of Childvester Ultra-God-Tier luck ; we're talking about a so-called Aub who needed to adopt a commoner and made her attend the RA before coming into contact with his liege ( likely because the community has a tendency to believe Childvester is somewhat competent, readers tend to not know having contacts with one's liege is absolutely normal and should be standard business for any decent Aub ), that's so preposterous it's not even funny, so having as liege someone who went out of her way multiple times just for his ass and for absolutely no reason is a pretty good outcome... well, sure, if she would realize he used her for years without both qualm and acknowledging his rotten behavior, he's dead meat, but we know it won't happen, so...
I wish that the reason she was omni elemental was that she prayed so much but sadly it isn't it's because of the mark of Ewigeliebe and those stones being dyed with Ferdinands mana

If you loved Ascendancy of a Bookworm and want something to fill the void. You might like Isekai Academy, our protagonist Lyeh was directly inspired by Myne.
But what is the devouring, exactly? This whole thing is so confusing. - You can have mana, and you can have the devouring. - Those with the devouring don't have an element. They get an element through prayer, but can also gain an element through others. Is that actually true, or is it that a general rule that people raised by commoners don't have elements, and the only other method is through prayer? Myne did a lot of prayer though, so shouldn't that also have had an effect on her elements? - Commoners don't have elements, but Myne gained Ferd's elmentals. This has no bearing on getting the grut but did make her stronger. Those with the devouring can develop the clumps of mana after suffering near death experiences, which is _THE_ requrirement to gain the grut, but probably any near death experiences will work. I would bet Ferd never had the devouring, and his mana clumps were just due to all the attempted assasinations on him (I don't recall if this was stated in an earlier volume). Therefore, it's not about the devouring, it's about near death experiences for people with mana, which means there must have been some sort of rituals to force people into near death multiple times to get the clumps in order to get the grut. So what is the devouring? I don't feel like we got a true answer here. To me, it's still just sounding like the devouring is commoners with mana.
You don't need to have nearly died to get the Book of Mestionora. The devouring is explained this volume as commoners born with mana, but a unique condition where their easily dyed as a result of not having much initial elemental influence. I don't think nobles can be born with it because their parents are giving them mana from conception. Because mana elements are influenced by parents, commoner parents don't have the elements to influence their children, so it's implied they are essentially influenced by the background mana of the country's magic circle. That's why they have a slight affinity for the gate they're closest to as those are associated with specific gods and elements. Rozemyne was faintly omni-elemental with a slight wind affinity at birth, but because she nearly died multiple times, that created the mana clumps, and made her take on Ferdinand mana when she was having her memories searched. He dyed the feystones in her making her permanently omni-elemental rather than it fading like it normally would have after a month or so, but the dying process isn't perfect, so her elements are ever so slightly weaker than his, which is why her mana was still a pale yellow. But she was now strongly omni-elemental after that point, which let her get a schtappe from the garden of beginnings and allowed her to circle the shrines to meet Ewaermen for the book. Ferdinand was born omni-elemental from the start and was able to circle the shrines without issue. The mana clumps only mattered for Myne because it's what gave her strong elemental affinity in every element after Ferdinand dyed her and let her keep those elements throughout her life. Why it seems like a disease is because they die from not having an outlet for their mana while growing up and die.

If you are saying the devouring is this condition of being easily died due to no elemental influence from parents. Then I see that as functionally the same thing. If you are born from a commoner (aka. people with no magic) you become faintly elemental, and can be dyed by someone that DOES have magic. Meaning it's just a delay in developing your elements. Yea, sounds like the devouring is just being born from people with no magic, and any mana child would die if suddenly raised by commoners. They don't understand it, so they call it the devouring, but it's just having mana without the ability to use it. Your element, or lack of it, seems to be an irrelevant factor. As for the grut, are you saying that the only prerequisites are being an omni-elemental by the time you get your schtappe, and then praying at the various locations? Is there any way to become an omni-elemental other than the dye or being born that way?
You seem to be confusing some aspects of it, but you have the gist. You are on the right track that the devouring is functionally the same thing as commoners born with excess mana. The lack of elemental influence by their parents is a quirk of being born to commoners without elements, and I would say it's not majorly important to people with it, but it's worldbuilding for the audience, and also comes into play in volume 9, as those with the devouring are fairly useful to nobles besides as mana batteries and soldiers. However, those who skirt death multiple times and develop mana clumps while still alive have the mark of Ewigeliebe, which is an additional condition compared to the Devouring. Those with it have the devouring, but not everyone with the devouring has the mark of Ewigeliebe. Everyone with the devouring is easily dyed and take on the mana of those dying them, but only those with the mark are permanently dyed because the feystones in their bodies are dyed in the process, so their mana can't return to its normal faintly omni-elemental state. That's why Ewaermen said those with the devouring should define their mana through prayer--essentially gaining elements. While Rozemyne prays a lot, she was dyed before really devoting herself to it or performing her protections rital, so that's why her mana is basically the same as Ferdinand's to the gods. As for how to gain more elements before obtaining a schtappe, that is explained in part 5 volume 5. There are small shrines to the subordinate gods at the royal academy where one prays to them, offering mana, and when you have all of their protections, you can perform your protection's ritual to secure the primary god's protection. When one who wasn't omni-elemental at birth gains all the primary god's protections, they can then circle the main shrines to get the slates allowing them to visit Ewaermen in the Garden of Beginnings to obtain Mestionora's wisdom.
@@TrashTierWaifu I see, I remembered that praying gives protection but I missed/forgot this part about if you collect all the protections associated with a given element, that you also gain a new element. One last question. Can a given grut be passed down to other people or does it die with the person? I assume it dies with the person, and only 1 person can have it at a time, because it seems to me that Myne should have been able to collect the entire grut otherwise, rather than it being split between her and Ferd. Unless this is some side effect of Myne and Ferd having similar mana signatures. Thanks for the answers!
@tomaO2 Your last question is dealing with spoilers for the next volume a bit, but for multiple books of Mestionora, that was answered in volume 6. There is no limit to the number of people who can have the book of Mestionora at a given time and as many having them as possible is considered good by the gods. The Founder of Lanzenave had one and left because he wasn't chosen to be the next zent. More information on how the Gruitrissheit is passed on comes next volume. The reason Rozemyne didn't get a full book is because her mana is so similar to Ferdinand's and was given the parts Ferdinand didn't have as a result. She can't be given the rest as Ferdinand has it already and once the full amount has been dished out, it can't be given again. If a person stopped the transfer, like Ferdinand did, then they can go back and finish it later, but in Rozemyne and Ferdinand's case, the gods consider them having gotten the full book and can't finish it for either of them. That's why she was ordered to kill him to finish her book by Ewaermen.

It’s time for the best part of the month
Wasted as it is, on a piece of absolute garbage from the start like her, but I reluctantly have one point to make about Detlinde: She's been drugged by Leonzio for weeks at this point... you know, like what made Letizia do his bidding from just one application, so it's pretty much impossible to know, how much of this casual cruelty is her own, and how much is Leonzio's manipulations and/or side effects from essentially being high 24/7.
This isn't hard-confirmed, but strongly hinted at. First we learn that Trus - a drug to manipulate the mind and make people more likely to follow suggestions - has a sweet smell. When Leonzio arrives, there's a constant sweet smell around him. And to hammer the final nail in the coffin, we just saw how his suggestion made Letizia pull the silver tube (i.e. party popper) at Ferdinand, when she had no reason to. If she was going to use it as leverage, she's gift it to him, not activate it.
Detlinde always had a dismissive and vindictive, but outright deciding the murdering someone, right in front of the little girl for whom the victim is like a mother, just for not being quiet... that seems too far even for her. And by just going in and doing the murder without hesitation or comment, or how he just murdered a whole room of people, some of whom were loyal to Detlinde, shows that he's very much not a victim here, who's reluctantly following Detlinde's whims, but certainly one of the culprints and a monster down to his soul, probably evne worse than Detlinde. Because unlike Detlinde, he's not ignorant.
It's back to the usual issue with Detlinde. When she's not present, I kinda-sorta feel sorry for her, since she was turned into this part clueless idiot, part cruel monster by her own mother intentionally, for the crime of looking too visually similar to her grandmother. But then she enters a scene and I can only think of how much I'm going to enjoy her eventual humbling and demise.
But I have no issue like that with Leonzio: Unlike Detlinde, he chose his path in life and as we later learn, even the person she's supposedly working for thinks Leonzio needlessly brutal and cruel.
I thought Detlinde was immune to trug since you kind of need to have a brain to be manipulated 😂
To be frank, Dumblinde is the kind of person I would pay just to punch them in the face ( for what she displays all the time prior to her encounter with Leonzio ), but she's overall treated quite unfairly by the community, all the more comparatively to her cousin Wildumb. Most in the community spend much energy to complain about the poor Wildumb who would be a victim of truly unfortunate circumstances while being such a good and competent person otherwise while Dumblinde would be absolutely free of her own circumstances and thus the absolute worst ever people and as much as I despise the kind of people Dumblinde grew up to become, her own circumstances are a billion times worse than Wildumb's and her insufferable behavior is entirely explainable by her circumstances while why is the excuse for Wildumb to never, ever choosing to follow the many good advice he received throughout his life and always following the worst ones, to always complain about his so-called lack of helping hands or consideration without ever taking into consideration how so many competent people went out of their way to save his sorry ass, to be literally the only character his age to act like a 5 years old contemporary earth in industrial power nation child all the time ?
It is highly implied that Detlinde is a young Veronica so while she might have not turned out like Vernoica if she was raised by a NON-psychopath, Detlinde does not value anything other than herself and her own interests. In short while Detlinde and Vernoica are victims of noble society they choose to embrace evil rather than question it like Rosemyne does.

If Wildumb and Dumblinde circumstances were reversed, I'm pretty sure Wildumb would have turned like Dumblinde, perhaps even worse and everyone would be lamenting poor Dumblinde's circumstances :p.
I don't think trug has ever been even *implied* to impact your morals at all. Letizia was drugged into believing that using the party popper on Ferdinand would convince him to help her find Roswitha. She didn't know there was poison in it at all.
That's not to say that there's no way you could be forced into doing something you wouldn't normally do while under the influence of trug, but rather that-judging by Letizia's behavior and a future example I won't spoil-the amount of trug required to force you to do something like that would (temporarily) turn you into a zombie. It would be very clear that she's acting odd, but she was acting like usual and reacting mostly normally (for her). I would absolutely not be so quick to excuse her behavior as uncharacteristic.
It seems most accurate to say that trug doesn't influence your personality, but instead your sense of what is real. It changes what you believe to be true, which also further explains why it's difficult to read the memories of those affected by trug. Their memories seem warped and unclear.

One of me favorite conversations in the entire series is this one over the water mirror. She dropped the 'I have the book' at the after he accepted the proposal as the higher one in status, what makes him a true ally. Had he denied the proposal and discovered that latter, he would be forever blamed for losing this spot of grace, to be in the inner circle of the probable next zent. That is Mine taking on Benno negotiation lessons, revealing the appropriate info when the time is right.
But.. he would never actually refuse, he would hang on that invitation until he is kinda convinced. He was truly smiling at the end of the conversation, and just needed any excuse to convince his wife. Rosemyne is the one who beat Dunkelfelger multiple times at Ditter with a weaker team and resources; she is responsible for the ritual's revivals, the use of the true lance, the return of treasure stealing, and the Ditter fictional stories. The adults of Dunkelfelger only hear and read about her over and over again, she is not only Ehrenfest's saint, but Dunkelfelger's as well, and now, bearing the Grutrissheit she invites them for true Ditter, what do you think is going to happen?
Well, Lady Rozemyne is an expert in handling Dunkelfelgerians, she had no risks of failing ( and to think she still believes she wouldn't have survived in Dunkelfelger... my Lady, you're basically already an half-Goddess, in Dunkelfelger ^^ ) :p.

It has already been establish that the orphan Veronican children left in the temple are the kids that were backups that were being raised to be servants and/or children of 2nd/3rd wives. It wouldn’t be strange for Dirk to have a super simple name compared to Rosemyne and no one would care to look into the history of a criminal’s kid. Dirk also doesn’t have nearly as much to hide compared to Rozemyne.

Little hint at the end that the royals are planning on having Rosemyne live in the villa that was traditionally for mistresses/ the villa Ferdinand was saved from. (Raublut couldn't move as he wanted because they were setting the villa up for the adopted daughter)… Man I hate the royals.
She required a Villa of her own and that was the only one they could ready in time. That said the royals are shortsighted morons for the most part.

the synchronization potion has no aphrodisiac effect. The reason married couple use that is so that their mana can easily "mix" while baby making.
Remember when ferdinand healed myne during trombe incident? It hurt myne for ferdi to heal her. Anytime one person is used on another person with mana, the other person's mana automatically tries to repel it. using the potion merely facilitate the interaction.

But what is the devouring, exactly? This whole thing is so confusing.
- You can have mana, and you can have the devouring.
- Those with the devouring don't have an element. They get an element through prayer, but can also gain an element through others. Is that actually true, or is it that a general rule that people raised by commoners don't have elements, and the only other method is through prayer? Myne did a lot of prayer though, so shouldn't that also have had an effect on her elements?
- Commoners don't have elements, but Myne gained Ferd's elmentals. This has no bearing on getting the grut but did make her stronger.
Those with the devouring can develop the clumps of mana after suffering near death experiences, which is _THE_ requrirement to gain the grut, but probably any near death experiences will work. I would bet Ferd never had the devouring, and his mana clumps were just due to all the attempted assasinations on him (I don't recall if this was stated in an earlier volume). Therefore, it's not about the devouring, it's about near death experiences for people with mana, which means there must have been some sort of rituals to force people into near death multiple times to get the clumps in order to get the grut.
So what is the devouring? I don't feel like we got a true answer here. To me, it's still just sounding like the devouring is commoners with mana.
You don't need to have nearly died to get the Book of Mestionora. The devouring is explained this volume as commoners born with mana, but a unique condition where their easily dyed as a result of not having much initial elemental influence. I don't think nobles can be born with it because their parents are giving them mana from conception. Because mana elements are influenced by parents, commoner parents don't have the elements to influence their children, so it's implied they are essentially influenced by the background mana of the country's magic circle. That's why they have a slight affinity for the gate they're closest to as those are associated with specific gods and elements. Rozemyne was faintly omni-elemental with a slight wind affinity at birth, but because she nearly died multiple times, that created the mana clumps, and made her take on Ferdinand mana when she was having her memories searched. He dyed the feystones in her making her permanently omni-elemental rather than it fading like it normally would have after a month or so, but the dying process isn't perfect, so her elements are ever so slightly weaker than his, which is why her mana was still a pale yellow. But she was now strongly omni-elemental after that point, which let her get a schtappe from the garden of beginnings and allowed her to circle the shrines to meet Ewaermen for the book. Ferdinand was born omni-elemental from the start and was able to circle the shrines without issue. The mana clumps only mattered for Myne because it's what gave her strong elemental affinity in every element after Ferdinand dyed her and let her keep those elements throughout her life.
Why it seems like a disease is because they die from not having an outlet for their mana while growing up and die.

Did you mean to say that "the devouring is NOT commoners born with mana"?
If you are saying the devouring is this condition of being easily died due to no elemental influence from parents. Then I see that as functionally the same thing. If you are born from a commoner (aka. people with no magic) you become faintly elemental, and can be dyed by someone that DOES have magic. Meaning it's just a delay in developing your elements.
Yea, sounds like the devouring is just being born from people with no magic, and any mana child would die if suddenly raised by commoners. They don't understand it, so they call it the devouring, but it's just having mana without the ability to use it. Your element, or lack of it, seems to be an irrelevant factor.
As for the grut, are you saying that the only prerequisites are being an omni-elemental by the time you get your schtappe, and then praying at the various locations? Is there any way to become an omni-elemental other than the dye or being born that way?
You seem to be confusing some aspects of it, but you have the gist. You are on the right track that the devouring is functionally the same thing as commoners born with excess mana. The lack of elemental influence by their parents is a quirk of being born to commoners without elements, and I would say it's not majorly important to people with it, but it's worldbuilding for the audience, and also comes into play in volume 9, as those with the devouring are fairly useful to nobles besides as mana batteries and soldiers. However, those who skirt death multiple times and develop mana clumps while still alive have the mark of Ewigeliebe, which is an additional condition compared to the Devouring. Those with it have the devouring, but not everyone with the devouring has the mark of Ewigeliebe. Everyone with the devouring is easily dyed and take on the mana of those dying them, but only those with the mark are permanently dyed because the feystones in their bodies are dyed in the process, so their mana can't return to its normal faintly omni-elemental state. That's why Ewaermen said those with the devouring should define their mana through prayer--essentially gaining elements. While Rozemyne prays a lot, she was dyed before really devoting herself to it or performing her protections rital, so that's why her mana is basically the same as Ferdinand's to the gods.
As for how to gain more elements before obtaining a schtappe, that is explained in part 5 volume 5. There are small shrines to the subordinate gods at the royal academy where one prays to them, offering mana, and when you have all of their protections, you can perform your protection's ritual to secure the primary god's protection. When one who wasn't omni-elemental at birth gains all the primary god's protections, they can then circle the main shrines to get the slates allowing them to visit Ewaermen in the Garden of Beginnings to obtain Mestionora's wisdom.
@@TrashTierWaifu I see, I remembered that praying gives protection but I missed/forgot this part about if you collect all the protections associated with a given element, that you also gain a new element.
One last question. Can a given grut be passed down to other people or does it die with the person? I assume it dies with the person, and only 1 person can have it at a time, because it seems to me that Myne should have been able to collect the entire grut otherwise, rather than it being split between her and Ferd. Unless this is some side effect of Myne and Ferd having similar mana signatures.

@tomaO2 Your last question is dealing with spoilers for the next volume a bit, but for multiple books of Mestionora, that was answered in volume 6. There is no limit to the number of people who can have the book of Mestionora at a given time and as many having them as possible is considered good by the gods. The Founder of Lanzenave had one and left because he wasn't chosen to be the next zent. More information on how the Gruitrissheit is passed on comes next volume.
The reason Rozemyne didn't get a full book is because her mana is so similar to Ferdinand's and was given the parts Ferdinand didn't have as a result. She can't be given the rest as Ferdinand has it already and once the full amount has been dished out, it can't be given again. If a person stopped the transfer, like Ferdinand did, then they can go back and finish it later, but in Rozemyne and Ferdinand's case, the gods consider them having gotten the full book and can't finish it for either of them. That's why she was ordered to kill him to finish her book by Ewaermen.
I've always wondered, why was she brought to this world? Is she here to correct the ship, or is it all a happy reincarnation coincidence?
Everyone in the series was reincarnated. Her memory wipe was incomplete and the devouring wore down the barrier between Myne and Urano.
