Absolutely not true. I don't know about their Church, but in the Catholic Church the Church wedding is the most superior. In Nigeria you don't even go to court when you do the Catholic wedding. It is recognised by the law as both a Christian and court wedding, and you only sign the register after the marriage (inside the Church for that matter). Because I as a Nigerian got married in Catholic Church in Ghana, Catholic Church made us do the Nigerian court first b4 wr could have the Church wedding.
