@@isabellaa-tm4xu there were people on tumblr trying to recreate looks from the 80s/90s so i feel like ‘downtown girl’ is somewhat similar to that. tumblr was more popular back then so there were a lot of users with different aesthetics. some ‘downtown girl’ pics just look like a tiktok version of 2017 tumblr lol.
I love this style so much because it's very practical and easy to recreate with things you already own/ find in local thrift stores so it's less harmful to the environment. Also, it's versatile with every season unlike other trends we see (coconut girl aesthetic). This style also uses so many timeless pieces like leather jackets, baggy jeans, and knit sweaters!

I like this aesthetic because so many interesting fashion trends/ categories like cottagecore and barbiecore are seen as VERY out there for places like the suburban area in the Midwest that I live. Downtown girl aesthetic is often pretty casual and incorporates a lot of basics, so you can be seen as fashionable without getting too many looks. yes, wearing whatever you want regardless of people's opinions is important, but it's also nice to feel comfortable.
