      It's more complex, in many ways Paul is an overpowered and *far worse* version of what T.E. Lawrence and what he did in the Great War.
      In many ways the Sykes-Pyco agreement and the betrayal of the Muslim World it represents is a lot like what happens here but with a different focus and worse outcome but it's still about an imperialist betrayal of a noble warrior people and the consequences.
      Best regards

    Frank Herbert meant Dune to be a cautionary tale about the dangers posed by messiahs, prophets and Great Leaders of all kinds. In the book series, Paul and the Fremen went on a galaxy-wide jihad that killed billions and wiped out dozens of other religions, down to the last follower. It bothered Herbert that many readers didn't understand the central theme of his first book: That Paul was a villain, not a hero.

    • @OmarAlsaadi40
      @OmarAlsaadi40  3 месяца назад +1

      Ohhh okay, so this will probably be the 3rd movie Paul and the Fremen will go around killing the rest of the houses because I can already see Paul turning evil, that much power is too dangerous for anybody, I mean yeah a false messiah causes a lot of threat, but I think real messiahs would bring peace for example our prophet Jesus and Muhammed peace be upon them were both amazing men, and taught us to be good

      @@OmarAlsaadi40 SPOILER ALERT: I think the odds are at best 50/50 that the director of the first two films will be able to carve a serviceable script out of the next couple of Dune books. They're darker, weirder, and lack a nice clean "rise of the chosen one" story arc. They're mostly about Paul's revulsion over what he's allowed himself to become, and ruminations about the dangers of dictatorships and mindless fanaticism. Totally different "energy" from the first book, upon which the two recent Dune films are both based.

      @@samstall9173 nah I think it will be darker i don’t know why I have a feeling, because Anakin(from Star Wars) is based of of Paul so it makes sense that Paul will go dark, maybe as you said not as dark as the books but still dark with a bit of humanity maybe, but to be honest I trust the director, because the first 2 movies were amazing

    • @MrDoctorMabuse
      @MrDoctorMabuse 3 месяца назад +4

      It is not so simple to say "Paul is a hero" or "Paul is a villain." He is trying to balance his own desire for revenge for his house, while causing as little damage to others as possible. He finds it overwhelmingly difficult, and even impossible, because he sees all possible futures in the end. The holy war is bigger than him, something even he cannot control. So every decision ends up being bad for different reasons. Much more is explained in the rest of the story we haven't yet seen (as films). Paul might be classified more as a "tragic hero."

    You are correct - Frank Herbert was indeed heavily inspired by Arab/Islamic culture and one of the criticisms aimed at Villeneuve's movies was that the Fremen didn't feel "Middle-Eastern" enough. Although I probably understand why Villeneuve went this way.

If i had to chose, prolly shoulda been instead of Zendaya as Chani. Don't get me wrong, she was FAR better than i expected and delivered her best performance of her career imo, but even with that being true - that doesn't change the fact she was MASSIVELY miscast. • @SMiki55

      Chani in the movie is meant to depict Paul's own inner conflict. He hates himself (especially in the second book - the one that'll become the third movie) for bringing so much death across the galaxy and changing the ways of the Fremen (after conquering the galaxy they become much more lazy and forget about some of their ancestral traditions; they move to the city and desert sietches become museums).
      As for Paul's son Leto the Second… well, he doesn't have such moral qualms. In some ways he's worse than Palpatine.

    So let me ask you, i know you're muslim, so you speak arabic or farsi? Did you understand some of the words being said in this movie?
    like:
    Muad'Dib: the Arabic word "مؤدب" (muʾaddib)
    Mahdi: In Islam, the Mahdi is a messianic figure
    Kwisatz Haderach: While this term is a more complex creation by Herbert, it echoes the Arabic word "قضاء وقدر" (qadāʾ wa qadar), meaning "fate and destiny."
    Lisan al-Gaib: Lisan (لسان): Means "tongue" or "language." al-Gaib (الغيب): Means "the unseen" or "the unknown."

      Yup I did, “tongue of the unseen” in Islam means the word of god because in our religion god is unseen, and he would send prophets to convey his message, “qada wa qadar” we always use that word when something bad happens to us like death in family, or anything really, we use it as means of “it is already written” so it is already our fate and destiny, “mu’addib” means having good manners and being polite 👍
