    Near-death experiences can have a profound impact on a person. That shouldn’t be underestimated, because it seems like Petracca has re-evaluated both his life and his career during this time. I agree, don't keep a player if they don't want to be at the club! weather they signed the deal yesterday, signed a 10 year deal or whatever. That will then lead to bad performances, faking injuries or not even playing at all. At that point you'll be wasting a valuable list spot.

    the tricky thing is figuring out which team actually has the inventory to spend to bring over petracca. He wants to come to a big club like collingwood or carlton, but collingwood dont have draft picks, and i dont see them trading someone like daicos. Same with carlton, i dont see them trading a harry mckay. So who will actually have the oppurtunity to convince melbourne in accepting the trade

    • @kelstra1997
      @kelstra1997 17 дней назад +2

      Good comment Gamer. If you take him at his word about it having to be a powerhouse club in Melbourne there really are only three - Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon. I don't think any of those clubs have the currency that Melbourne will want let alone the salary cap space. And realistically, if they did have suitable player capital who would want to go there? I have no idea where that leaves everyone but we will find out eventually..

    • @scottmcnaughton539
      @scottmcnaughton539 17 дней назад +1

      Zero chance either Carlton or Collingwood getting a trade done. Collingwood traded their first pick away for an average flanker, and Carlton will have a pick outside the top ten. Both have players that could make melbourne better, but in trading them away it makes them worse. There are teams that it makes sense for Melbourne to do a deal with, neither of these two are them. Richmond, North, Freo, have the stock required to get a deal done.

      If he is traded, it will be in the final half hour of the trade period. Clubs will be trading for picks in an effort to raise currency.
      Then there’s the salary issue. Can he walk away from the contract altogether? I’m not sure how that works legally.

  • @kelstra1997
    @kelstra1997 17 дней назад +5

    I don't regard Melbourne among the best run clubs in the AFL. There is no value having a player on your list who doesn't want to be there. The smart clubs realise this and let them go and cash in on what they get in exchange. There is no doubt that he would generate a huge return and obviously create a lot of salary cap space.

On the other hand, Christian Petracca plays at 100%, is an excellent role model, and has become the most prized player in the competition, a generational player. He had an experience whereby he was seriously injured and wrongly went back onto the field, which resulted in him being awake while major surgery was taking place to stem his internal bleeding. He then learns that he was near death while in the ICU, and his family was called. He feels let down by the club. I don't know how this will play out. It's a very very ugly situation one where I think I can understand he is upset, but the club didn't cause the injury yes they shouldn't have sent him back out onto the field but the damage was already done. It wouldn't have mattered whether he'd been rushed straight to hospital. It's quite potential that he would've experience the same injury even if he had not gone back on the field people are making out that because he went back on the field this made the injury somehow worse. Or do you do the more difficult but adult thing and work out a deal that is a win win for both parties? In the end it is a sad time for all concerned. What has been and may have been, is no more. Petracca is close to 30 and there is a possibility he doesn't make it back to his elite form after this injury. Harley Reid isn't even in his prime yet. Melbourne would have to add to the trade to get Reid.

What did Roos do other than top up his super for a couple of years, okay us outsiders can only see the results on the weekends but they were still copping horrendous beltings during his time, so what else are we meant to think

    Sounds like the poor guy is struggling with the trauma. Perhaps he feels a return to the Dees will trigger him, and hopes a change of club instead of getting some help, which would require facing the emotional issue, will negate that. If that’s the case (and this is hypothetical) another club should be wary.

  • @ohisww

    Melbourne's incompetence nearly got him killed. Melbourne should do the trade and get whatever they can. Petracca has the contract, he's got the upper hand. I can see petracca sitting out 2025 if he stays at melbourne.

    He doesn’t want to stay he does not want to stay can’t put a gun to his head and make him stay it’s his decision and a just want to say I seriously have doubts about the coaching staff at Melbourne he sold the point he wants a bigger crowd but he also is not sold on Melbourne so in the meeting someone didn’t sell him on the fact this club will ever make top 4 and I think that’s. a huge reason why he is leaving

    Christian is the best judge if he is able to play and he elected to do so , he also elected to sign a long term contract.
    if he wants to go , thats fine , but at a heavily reduced amount .
    This will reduce long term theoretical contracts , earnings can be better gauged based on personal performance , and trust can work both ways .
    he has lost trust , thinks he's bigger than the club , to build brand petraca .

    That's really not a good idea for the culture to keep a disgruntled player. It's an unfortunate but extremely traumatic experience that he went through. I would trade him to be honest. It's not worth destroying the club and the culture if a player does not want to be there. This isn't a player being a princess, he almost died - let him have a fresh start if that's what he needs to move on.
