If I can name 8 without researching, a panel of AA selectors looking throughout the season can certainly fill out the list.
Nick Martin, Mason Wood, Hugh McCluggage, Bailey Banfield, Jarrod Berry there's plenty of mids that play the majority of their time on the wing. Yeah it's just Kane-o defending his position poorly. You could tell as soon as he said "People will have a sook" yeah, great start to your argument Kane-o 😂
@andrewkerr5296 my team has two primary wingers. Not sure about the others but if this is a fantasy team then play a primary role player in thatl position.
So Errol’s spot is cemented because he is the best winger, but the second best winger doesn’t get the other spot? If we aren’t going to stick to positions then why does Errol get a spot? There are midfielders that have had a better season than him
@vindicespiritus5768 That cuts both ways. Why should ANOTHER mid fielder get put in on the wing? Why wasn’t he put in an actual on ball/centre position? If it’s because a Cripps or Bontempelli was better then why does Daicos squeeze in if he wasn’t good enough to earn a spot in his ACTUAL position? Sounds to me like it’s just a way for a midfielder who wasn’t good enough to earn his actual spot gets a free spot on a wing or squeezed into half forward. Pushing out players that have actually been playing those positions all year. That’s kinda bullshit to be honest.
Ex President Glen Bartlett has won approval to take his defamation case against Roffey and others to the Federal Court. His eventual testimony will give us a pretty good idea of whats been going on at Melbourne for the last few years. If Welbourne is wounded at the moment, this court case could bring the club to it's knees.
They have been in a much worse position. I remember the time the team went broke and had to be propped up by a magnate who then tried to stop the team drafting certain players because of their religious background- and succeeded! That was after they seemed certain to merge with Hawthorn. Melbourne will be fine but it is completely obvious that everyone from the President down to the coach and beyond must go in the near future.
The narrative that Petracca wants to improve his brand is nauseating. Oliver, Smith, Goodwin etc all have a poor history off the field. It’s so obvious.
But is it completely unfounded? Bont doesn’t play for a big 4 VIC team, his team goes through wild ups and downs, and he doesn’t complain about not playing for a big crowd team. Trac knew the Melbourne base when he signed 7 years on a million $ year. He's also dragging the entire Melbourne playing list through the mud and affecting their careers.
I think Bailey Dale is really underrated. He is so crucial to everything the Bulldogs have been doing and after a poor couple of games at the start of the year has rebounded to have an outstanding season. His impact on games is really significant. Even last weekend Whitfield may have had more disposals but I think Dale had much more impact. Should have made the team in my view
Kane’s take on Petracca is everything that is wrong with media today. Instead of considering the layers to this, he simplifies the whole situation to “Petracca wants out since Melbourne started losing games.” So bloody ignorant. Don’t you think it might have SOMETHING to do with his life-threatening injury, Kane?
It's clear that the way the injury was handled was the straw that broke the camels back. Petracca has probably for a while had grievances with the way many things are being handled at the club outside of the injury debacle.
I actually agree with him. I think Trac is being opportunistic to get out of a club that is no longer in the premiership window and will gradually fall down the ladder. He wants to play for a winning club and is going to make a mountain out of a relative molehill to get his way and a lot of people are falling for his poor poor pitiful me schtick.
Ramone I think you are the one simplifying things - all of the questions Kane is asking are valid and he says multiple times that there is so much information we don’t know and are trying to fill in the gaps. Kane is bang on the money and not just blindly taking one side over the other.
I think Kane’s explanation of why a player who is predominantly a midfielder was selected as a winger didn’t fly. And was very defensive. It seems like it was decided to fit in as many midfielders as possible including the IC to make sure everyone was happy. A normal IC would have an extra for the backs, forwards, mids and a utility. Be transparent and true to the process.
D'ambrosio didn't have an AA caliber year.. I agree with Kane on this one. Last year Josh Daicos had an AA caliber year playing on the wing and rightfully was in the team as a wingman.
@@Cloudzyy5 no. squad is an All-Australian squad. It means you've been All-Australian caliber. Selectors decided to pick the top players of the comp and squeeze them in rather than picking two wings (both named in the squad) that had All-Australian seasons
Btw, Kane's argument is that you should include the best players over the best players in those positions, even if they had an AA year. They don't care if a wing is great. Weird how they don't name mids as fullbacks
@nathand4500 Yup. It was such a “hard” call to decide between Andrews and Weitering and they couldn’t squeeze in a 3rd big defender who probably deserves a spot, not even in a spot on the bench. But hey they can Chuck in a dozen midfielders who apparently “deserve” a spot in position they don’t even play. If Daicos wasn’t good enough to edge out Cripps, Bont or the other mids then he shouldn’t make it. Simple as that. They should be only eligible in positions they play majority of their game time.
Kane happy to lay the boots into Petracca as a sook because of the issues surrounding him wanting a trade, but cuddles JHF because he didn't like ice baths and wanted to be traded. Make it make sense
Very different situations. JHF had leg injuries so couldn't ice bath. Petracca chose to sign 7 yr contact and has 5 left. JHF had no choice going to NM and only had 1 yr left on contract anyway.
I feel like if all it took was playing for Geelong Max Holmes would have made it. West Coast got more players in the squad than Geelong and finished 13 spots further down the ladder.

I understand and agree with Kane. He's trying to say Mass as hasn't had a good enough year as a wingman to out perform the year Daicos has had as a midfielder and therefore, they have put Daicos in, because he's had a 10/10 year as a midfielder, where-as Mass has a 8 or 9/10 year as a winger. I personally think they raise the threshold of % played for positions, from say whatever it is now to 60% from next year. That way the players selected in those positions will have actually played in them as their primary position. This should include wings.
Kanes argument for putting an onballer on a wing because there aren't many wings to choose from is absurd. You only have a limited number of full backs. Why not put Daicos at full back.
@@vindicespiritus5768 Wing is a lot more specialised than you give credit for i think. Most on-ballers do not spend any time on the wing because it does require a different skill set. Melbourne supporter here, told everyone before the season that we'd implode and we had culture problems, have seen if for a few years, any time one of our players gets picked on, no one stands up for that player, we also can't hold a tackle and that's pathetic.
So if the argument is you're picking your best players over a specialist wing, then you pick Merrett over Gulden. Some players are getting favourable looks because they're in a stronger team. Merrett basically carried Essendon on his shoulders all season. Gulden a super player, for sure, but I know who I'd be picking first if I could only have one.
It will be telling next year when people talk about the named players - are they an "All Australian Player" or an "All Australian Ruckman / Winger / Full Back" - I bet Daicos won't be called the latter. Just my gut check way of working out if a pick "feels" correct
This is ridiculous. Anybody who watches the game knows which players are playing midfield roles and who plays a wingman role. Watch Akers. Every week, he IS a wingman. Picking an AA team should be picking key positional players who have had an elite season in their positional roles, NOT picking your favourites. Also, how Waterman gets picked (just because he’s the only bloke kicking WCE goals) over Curnow who is 3rd overall….is ridiculous. More ridiculous is JMcgovern in the side in such a weak defensive team as WCE. JMcgov in and Andrew’s out is even MORE laughable. AA is speculative nonsense and it loses its credibility more and more every year.
How is DEI Laura Kane a selector? Never played a game in her life. It’s bad enough Abby is in there, but at least she played a few games. Enough of this woke nonsense. The woemyn can be AFLW selectors. Kane is a 🦠on the AFL. Sack her now!

I agree with king why is daicos on the wing either put him in the middle or on the bench and how does Luke Ryan make the team over Harris Andrew’s and how does treloar make it over Merrett
Even LLoydy was saying that Merritt looks better because Essendon are so poor atm. Poor Merritt has been carrying the bombers. i do agree a bit stiff but id say thats why, hence Sheezel and Xerri didnt make imo
@@BanksyOz Daicos is the same though. Collingwood nothing without him this year. Feel like Sheezel gets overlooked too much because he is in such a poor side
@BanksyOz I don’t see being in a crap team making them look better as a good enough excuse. McGovern plays backline at the eagles. They get smashed often and the balls always in his area. He’s good but being in a shit team means he’s getting more looks at the ball than other defenders. Same as Waterman. He’s the best forward in a shit team so he’s gonna look even better. Like who’s there 2nd best goal kicker for the year? Jamie Cripps? When their only real forward option is Waterman he’s not exactly competing with teammates for service. I’m not saying they don’t deserve spots but being in a crap team shouldn’t matter. Merrett has been consistent most the year and was being talked about as a possible AA Captain halfway through the season. The bombers dropped away but Merrett has still been solid and trying to carry them basically every week. Not getting a spot was a bit of a snub.
Kane has just confirmed that they just pick the most flashy midfielders and shove them in the team even when they would form the most cohesive team as a whole. Daicos might be great but he isnt a wingman.
Honestly who cares if Daicos misses out... Hes not a wingman. And every other midfielder in that group had a more consistent year of impact with the ball. Daicos had some absolutely outrageous games and he may well win the brownlow, but he might not. And without knowing if hes the brownlow winner i would comfortably swap him for D'Ambrosio on the wing.
Who cares if Nick Daicos the coaches award winner and current equal favourite in the Brownlow misses out completely on All Australian selection. You we’re joking, I hope
1 million a year for 5 years...nothing to complain about, despite the horrific injury. He will not play again, but suck it up princess, you're set for life. Lots of people struggle to put food on their plates or a roof over their heads.
I agree with Kingy that two wingman should be picked, but I also agree that if you are adding a player, you also need to say who should be removed. Also agree with Kane that Daicos 100% deserves to be in the team. I would bring him in for Neale or Treloar, don’t mind who you would pick out of those two.
The problem with Kane is he thinks everything’s black and white and his opinion is final. Believe it or not others can make great contrasting points that can also be right. It’s AFL, the whole blood sport lives in gray area
Kane is correct though lol. The best team in the country has Daicos on the wing instead of any actual wingman. Anyone (with a brain) trying to select the best team in the country would opt for Daicos on the wing instead of any of the wingman who played wing, because Daicos is that good.
It’s unlucky for Merrett, but they usually pick a captain who leads his team into finals and premiership contention. He should be in the team but, based on above, I’d rather Bont as captain.
Literally the minute he got hurt, Melbourne have treated Petracca poorly. They let him play while he was bleeding internally. Everyone watching on television knew something was extremely wrong, how the doctors and the club didn’t was unfathomable
After talking about culture culture culture. The Dees definitely "showed" what "culture" they have. A culture that leaves a guy out in the cold after he almost died. And if you think something like that can be fixed... you got no idea. Trac should leave the club.
“High maintenance”. Perfect description of Petracca by Kane. Club needs to take a hard line with this nonsense. “See you on November 23 Christian for day one of pre-season training.” End of discussion.
Shit in under 12s in the 90s I got a broken jaw and my coach was in hospital with ne the next morning and also recieved a phone call from the President and as I couldn't play for 12 weeks I was given a role after 6 weeks helping them at training until I could rejoin training and was presented with my own jumper with a requested number from the start of the season. That is gar better treatment than what he was given
Kane's comments about whether you'd select Nick over Massimo for a grand final are silly, because while yes, I probably would select Nick over Massimo for a GF, the AA team doesn't play games. It's supposed to be a representation of the best players who have played in every position on a footy team for the season.
Serong being a starting on baller is crazy 😂 he had a great first half of the year then tailed off and they lost their last 4! N daicos to on ball, Serong out the team and sheezle to the wing as he played there a bit at least.
Cornesy really frustrating me here. Petracca nearly died due to the Melbourne medical team's mistake, sending him back on lost crucial moments, we could be in a much worse situation if he had spent even a few more minutes on that pitch. To try and say that it's high maintenance to expect the bare minimum of being CONTACTED by the club is insane. The club should have been his main point of contact and support in helping him, and they've literally not even reached out to his family.
I think Kane and Kingy both have point. How can you leave N. Daicos out? Yet Bailey Dale is indispensible to the WB. Midfielders get more opportunities, so they seem to shine more. Look at Ed Richards. Excellent but not very visible in defense. Moved to the midfield, he suddenly becomes a star. So how many players outside the midfield are there that are capable of racking up 30 disposals every week if moved to the midfield? Probably more than 40. Does the AA team need to consist of the best players or best key position players? Seems like no one will be happy about the AA tean until this question is answered.
The fact that we sucked as a team makes their performances more extraordinary than if we were good. Gov was a colossus down back, easily stopped at least 20 points game extra being scored against us while jake was 1st the league for marks inside 50 and 5th in the Coleman despite terrible delivery most of the time. As individuals they were exceptional
As much as I feel for petracca and don’t want to detract from the severity of the incident, I agree with a lot of what Kane said. There’s a lot of things just being assumed without any idea about petraccas side of the equation and his willingness to communicate and actively engage with the club in all of this. It seems selfish to point to wanting to play for big Melbourne clubs after signing a 7 year deal on good coin. Also I remember well before his injury in a post match interview he said “I don’t know why when it’s cold the Melbourne fans don’t really come out”. Clearly it’s been an issue for a while well before this injury saga. Hopefully both parties can come to some sort of resolution.
Of Ricciuto's 8 All Australians, only ONE was as a midfielder! 4 on the bench, and 3 as a forward. So much for picking midfielders as midfielders back in the day 🤣
The idea you HAVE to choose two players who fulfil some nebulous criteria for being a "winger" is ridiculous. Some teams might have one or two players who take that role all year, most don't. But every team has key and small forwards, key and small defenders, rucks and several midfielders of different types. Beyond that, it's pointless to get more specific.
Catch up at Max Gawns wine bar. How dumb ? I’ve said for 18 months Gawn and Goodwin are part of the problem. Pert is just a BS artist, Richardson is an ordinary performer and Roffey is so far out of her depth. Bartlett was parachuted out of the club bc he spoke up about some home truths about what was happening. Hope it all comes home to roost. Need to make Viney captain as a starting point.
Clearly Kane just isn't interested in engaging with the point the Kingy was trying to make. Almost every other award in the game is already a midfielders award. All-Australian is a chance to recognise the performance of a player regardless of where they play. You can talk all you like about how the game is actually played, but you can't say there's a single team that will turn up on gameday bringing in 10 plus midfielders out of their 22 named players
Petracca is clearly someone who is more a “professional athlete” than just a footy player. Post 21 premiership professionalism around Melbourne has clearly dropped off, that’s just publicly I imagine it’s pretty bad behind closed doors. I highly doubt he hasn’t tried to turn it around and realised he’s wasting his time. Hes been publicly frustrated in the past. Telling Melbourne fans to come to the game etc. Then add how they handled his injury, it’s clearly not a win loss issue that he thinks is ruining his brand.
With the “Nick daicos could play a wing better than Massimo” yes he could but I think the Bont could play as a key forward better than many so let’s put him there
I don't know how Kingy puts up with the rubbish that comes out of Cornes' mouth. Just about everything Cornes says is tinged with controversy to enhance clicks...I wonder how much of the rubbish he spouts he actually believes.
D’Ambrosio has had a good year, but GOOD LORD HES OVERHYPED. He played 13 great games and went missing for about 7 of them. Thats not an AA year. Everyone remembers the last 3 weeks, but forgets about the rest of the year.
Hawthorn started 0-5 and Mass was rated in the 2 best wingers during this time. Hawthorn then came good and he maintained his Champion Data rating as 2nd highest rated winger for rest of season. His season started strong and got better and better as the season went on. Mass definitely had an AA year. It is not a Mass v Daicos argument…both should have made the side in the positions they play majority of time…or bench. AA side and Gulden needs a rest…who plays wing? No specialized wingers then?

Errol Gulden, Massimo D'Ambrosio, Josh Daicos, Ed Langdon, Bailey Williams (Dogs), Blake Acres, Jeremy Sharp, Steele Sidebottom
There are definitely more but that's just the top level names I can think of.
Wings should be a wing, and Massimo was robbed

So Errol’s spot is cemented because he is the best winger, but the second best winger doesn’t get the other spot? If we aren’t going to stick to positions then why does Errol get a spot? There are midfielders that have had a better season than him

That cuts both ways.
Dude massimo!!! He’s so good on the wing
Kane is hired and paid for his intentional stupidity which somehow comes so easy.
Do you really think If Melbourne finished top 2 this year the Petracca situation would be the same? I HIGHLY doubt it.

Yup.

Kane is just trying to be a contrarian, his engagement goes up when he says something completely ridiculous so of course he's going to keep doing it.
Very different situations. JHF had leg injuries so couldn't ice bath. Petracca chose to sign 7 yr contact and has 5 left. JHF had no choice going to NM and only had 1 yr left on contract anyway.

If they don't pick the right player for the right position, they may as well pick Daicos for the ruck.
Kanes argument for putting an onballer on a wing because there aren't many wings to choose from is absurd. You only have a limited number of full backs. Why not put Daicos at full back.
You don’t see that wing and rover are more similar positions than fullback and rover? Weird argument
lol, even better put him in ruck haha
@@vindicespiritus5768 Wing is a lot more specialised than you give credit for i think. Most on-ballers do not spend any time on the wing because it does require a different skill set. When you had Gary Ablett Snr and Tony Lockett both playing full forward you would never pick only one of them for the one position.
Can't believe I am agreeing 100% with King... Cornes arguments are stupid n childish
I’d be picking Gulden. Much younger, more dangerous around goal, and tackles harder than Merrett …

I don’t see being in a crap team making them look better as a good enough excuse.
Yeah, with the amount of 1v1s on the wing, I ain't taking Daicos over D'Ambrosio...

The same discussion every single year if a player doesn't play said position then they shouldn't be named at said position in the AA squad
So much of footy is grey area. I think Kane plays the black and white card often for entertainment and debating purposes.

Is Chad Cornes related to Sam McClure or is it just co-incidental that he also lacks the ability to think.
Roffey HAS TO GO!!!!! she was everywhere when we won the flag...now no sighting! Take Pert too

You could have the same conversation if you had put Daicos at full-forward.
Coach would pick 10 others on the wing ahead of Massimo if you were picking a team to play a grand final - Daicos, Merett, Brayshaw...

Because AA is an individual award son not a team award 🤣🤡
Team performance isn't necessarily part of the criteria. McGovern was outstanding this season, Waterman perhaps lucky but still an excellent year.

Clearly Kane just isn't interested in engaging with the point the Kingy was trying to make. Almost every other award in the game is already a midfielders award. All-Australian is a chance to recognise the performance of a player regardless of where they play.
