Hunter.informed much of my awareness of an American Dream that didn't. really exist. The Zeitgeist of the 1960's and 1970's that he wrote about and embodied seemed instinctively closer to reality and truth and freedom ( to us ) than the indoctrination drilled into myself & my peers by the establishment. I devoured everything he wrote about and, he remains one of the major influences on my way of seeing things, and I started reading HST in 1973 or thereabouts. He was his own heir. I miss him as much as many, many others surely do.
I love how fucking anxious and nervous he makes Letterman every interview. every word that comes out of his mouth that isn't a curse, or something that'll land ABC in the shit makes David sigh with relief hahaha
Who can understand either Keith or Hunter? So hard to discern what they’re saying! 😂 Hearing Keith talk about Altamont was the best part of this video.
I cried laughing when reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I think the fact that I, also, misused drugs for many years, made me live within the book.
Much obliged that you put this together. If you ever dig up more clips or throw together some more "best of Hunter" bits... I'd be delighted. Some people are born rich and others eat shit and die. Peace!
@@KCNYC He lived longer than he intended or wanted, he did everything he wanted to do - it was not because he was washed up, but because he came and left on his own terms - no-one elses.
I've been getting through the first volume of those letters in fear and loathing for about 2 years. And I've listened to them. I think I've got a pretty good handle on his turns of phrase I already knew how he thought but I'm working on a book about Hunter s Thompson fictional we'll see how it goes they're quite interesting but they're intense
My interest in him was sparked by the outrageousness he displayed. However, after actually reading him my interest went way past that part of him. After giving into the compulsion his words stirred up in me to seek more depth into who he was as a person, I found a lot of what I now enjoy to consider my "self". We all have things that we are apprehensive to explore in the manner we believe they deserve. Mainly because fear of potential reactions from the masses who do not seem to approve. Reading, seeing, and listening to others who have "gotten away with it" can be that catalyst we need to get over that fear. Allowing us do what we know to be right for us and/or what is Just/true. Thanks for the video, it was nice to check back in on him and reconsider things now that I'm even older and......seasoned? 😬
Dear Lise.. let's make this our vid for eternity, even after I'm gone. I gotta tell ya, the part with Conan was really my fave part.. was hard to pick a fave but, that part is so me. Love. Always, Cyn.
Imagine HST's hangovers. They must have been excruciating. Everyday became a double "hair of the dog that bit you." day. Pat Buchanan was fond of him. The Sixties were a better time to be young than now, but aging is a bitch in any era.
He apparently drank steadily, at all times, a constant amount of booze...never allowed himself to sober up enough to be hung over.... More like hungover from massive cocaine use... That lucky bastard... Coke is really expensive
I was walking on the beach one day and a guy pointed at me. After stopping to see what he wanted, he turned his thigh and pointed towards the tattoo on his calf. It was the same symbol that was on my shirt. The peyote button being held by a fist with two thumbs. Say no more, sir.
Hunter, lemme ask you a question, why didn't you take off your jacket before we started taping? I wasn't sure ... it's cold behind me here, and hot in front of me, and I wasn't sure which one was gonna prevail.
Missing Hunter. I’m glad he was relatively coherent here. My stepfather blew his brains out 21 years ago and I would not recommend it. I consider myself a suicide survivor. Having cleaned up the scene - it’s ugly and scarring. Don’t do the suicide thing.
O the days of H.S.T. in his prime, which was all the time. The nostalgia factor hits off big with the v.h.s. recording. Sam blam-a lamb Look where I am from! And I agree with you. Thompson was a loser with no perseverance who shot himself with his son and grandson in the house! Ugh! Selfish! Oh, you meant Conan. Sorry!
Randy Williams Right. He didn’t care about his two wives, his son or grandson. Blowing his brains out was a true act of love for himself, also. Give us a break! He was a loser!
Thank you. I'm at the tail end of a savage acid burn and I need this man

"That'll teach that f**kin' bear, man." Seeing Hunter smile, which seemed to be so rare in his later years, made me smile too.
RIP to one of the greatest. It's hard to find people who are 100% REAL
He was just such an icon, they don't make them like him anymore. Genius.
Dude is literally a luciferian... listen to what he says its in your face he's not real for shit
This dude was high 100% of the time he wasnt real juat confused
Mark my words there will never be another like him todays society doesn't allow for people like him anymore what a great man
You're right...people look up to as heroes, those who chop off their dicks and wear dresses.... Those are the modern heroes...
Hunters hate note was so epic “you’re a fool, a swine and a doomed man” mic drop
The world isn't the same without Hunter.
+Greg Bradley I genuinely wish George Carlin , Hunter S. Thompson & Bill Hicks were still here
Greg Bradley and burroughs man??!!
Greg Bradley much better place.
Yeah...won't be the same because now he won't get to direct snuff videos where kids get raped and mutilated. Fucking dumb fan sheeple yo...
