Given how Godzilla can evolve his body to take on different sizes and shapes it's likely he moreso gained a shorter blunter tail for of a battering instrument. The scales almost near the tip go over the start of the last segments of the tail, as if that's the piece that's still re-growing from where the tip was severed, and it's re-growing from the center of the wound so that's why we see it standing inside/under the old scales covering it... So that would explain why his tail was all of a sudden blunt on the tip in 2019 and looked shorter than it did in 2014, Muto Prime probably severed the tip, most likely while Emma Russel was trying to activate the ORCA in the "Godzilla: Aftershock" comic and Muto Prime was beating up Godzilla on the ground, so it happened OFF-SCREEN or, more accurately, "OFF-PAGES". That's just my theory, his tail might've become blunt also because he fought some sea creature/Titan some time after he dived in the ocean in San Francisco in 2014 at the end of the movie, a fight with some creature with strong sharp jaws would've easily cut just the tip of the tail, i don't remember if his tail was still pointy as the Muto Prime fight *WAS ABOUT* to happen in the comic (that would confirm Prime being the one severing the tip) or it was already blunt before he fought Prime (that would confirm some other creature or event severing it between the 2014 movie ending and the Muto Prime fight), i don't remember in the comic if his tail was already shown blunt or not, please tell me or draw your own conclusions because i can't remember if it was blunt or not... Love this theory and it’s super possible regardless of it being funny and not canon. Godzilla still isn’t a lizard 😭 but regardless there are animals other than lizard which have regrown portions of their body or limbs. It’s not entirely unrealistic for the character to have regeneration especially if it’s super slow and the limbs come back Shorter, weaker, or just deformed would be accurate to animals alive today.
