Well it's important to note that a multitude of phone cameras in phones today do not have IR filters (all iphones do but some androids don't) so if your phone does not have the filter, you can just attach the IR LED matrix and record as normal and the phone will pick up the infrared light and show clear video/picture.

Actually, now it captures MORE light is all situations (night and day). But since it now captures a broader light spectrum than before, the software does not know how to represent those extra frequencies in the display. The result are richier photos but with very unnatural colors (from the perspective of the human eye).
