Thanks for sharing the video Bill. I'd never seen the pumps taken apart. Thanks for explaining. My 3155 was getting that way before I traded it off. I like the weed eater trick. I hate scraping. Hope y'all have a great weekend.
I just recently stumbled upon your channel and I subscribed immediately. You sir are not just entertaining to watch but also a wealth of knowledge. You never fail to learn me something from watching your videos and for that I thank. You
Your very right about the low sulphr diesel. I had an '03 cat 6NZ pushing 850hp in my Pete. Always, ALWAYS, had to run octane boost to make it run proper.
A while back I had an oliver pulling tractor and I pulled it in a class that had to run a roosamaster pump. Im a machinist and I made a new rotor to go in the pump out of brass and put .550" plungers in it. I used brass because these are known to seize up when pushing them hard. It ran but still ended up seizing up. It was fun a little while.
Hey Bill. I used to have a lot of problems with my gas powered lawn equipment until my mower repair shop advised me to only use pure gas (no ethanol). I also started mixing 1 oz per gal of seafoam motor treatment in the fuel can when I fill it at the station. I switched to Walmart's Supertech fuel treatment when I discovered it because it is less expensive and I am sure it is the same thing and prolly even made by Seafoam for Walmart. Since I began those two things I have never had another problem with my equipment starting or running. I am thinking about putting the fuel treatment in my old '93 GMC truck too as it's sposed to be good for auto engines too. BTW, interesting video and entertaining too with your humor. Are you self-taught about fuel injection systems? Based on your pulling tractors I know you know your stuff. Have a good one!
The 2640 was a GREAT tractor. They always loped a little at idle. I kinda liked it. If you change injection pump timing to stop that youre losing horsepower.
Hey thanks for asking, if you have no experience with working on one of these pumps, it will be difficult to disassemble, clean, and reassemble with the proper rebuild kit. Not saying you can't do it, just saying be careful to get all the parts in the right position, keep them super clean and lubed when assembling. If you put it together the way it came apart you don't need to adjust anything. I still wouldn't recommend trying it.
Great video I’ve always been afraid to tear one down didn’t know how they was made.. I definitely need to take my 966 one apart and fix it it’s leaking fuel out.. have you ever had an international 66 series apart? Thanks for sharing
Do you know why the cam ring in john deere roosamaster has double ramps on it. We built a pump for my sons 4010 but we used a cam ring without the double ramps. Always wondered why they are like that.
Bill great video on the injection pumps two ? What was the tractor with the cage on it sitting in the weeds behind the 4030 . I used to pull a 4620 in the 10,5 class in 6th gear coming out about 4500 rpm the pump was built 350 cc of fuel the pump would lockup shear the shaft off was them rollers on them plungers what locking up my pump guy never told or can’t remember this was early/ middle 90’s
Here's a link you could buy it through our independent Amsoil dealership: gesynthetics.myamsoil.com/. The ones we would recommend are ADFPCN-EA for use in heavy equipment for lubrication and cleaning and ADBPCN-EA for use in trucks.
Hey Joey! Try advancing the timing, just loosen the bolts that hold the pump to the engine and rotate the top of the pump towards you, that should help some. 5020s really need a turbo to be real peppy.
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 I’ll do that but won’t it make it harder to start. Guess I’m wanting to much from it I’m use to a 6030 with a 619 in it with over 350 HP lol
@@bryanginder5903 Bryan, you probably know this but l'll just make sure, you don't need to disassemble the pump that much to get access to that screw, you can do the job with just removing the cap, linkage, and the long bolt that holds the spring. Rotate the pump 'til the screw lines up with the access hole. Like l said, you probably already knew that, you're a smart guy, you watch my channel.😄
Good Video, Bill. Do you run the pumps after you’re done or just bolt them on? The paint stripper worked pretty good. Fuel quality is definitely worse than years ago.
What do you put in the fuel to keep those pumps from messing up. Have an old 4020 that's messed up 2 pumps in 3 years. I'm 65 years old and I still think you're hilarious
Back in the day I had a customer that had a diesel station wagon. GM'S sorry attempt at a consumer diesel engine. He said at idle it would rev up and slow down and run all crazy. Nobody could fix it. Told him it was a temporary fix and showed him how to remove the return line check valve. He said that car didn't run that good when it was new.
Thank U 4 taking us to school Bill & have a great day!
weedeater paint scraper =gold ! good job bill!

Hey Bill,,,so,,Dr. Grimes is teaching. Your self taught knowledge is incredible. Thanks!!
Glad you think so!

Hey Craig, welcome! Glad to have you with us.
Great tip on the painting removal
First time I ever seen a pump inside. Thank you 😊 always love to watch you your a blessing and a joy. Pray for Israel 🇮🇱 🙏 😢
Always wondered what an injector looked like apart...thanks enjoyed the video
Thank you for the pump video because I've got a 3020 John Deere that's not getting fuel thanks again God bless 👍
Thanks for the Roosamaster tutorial, now you gave away the secret to why you suggest upgrading to a different injector pump.
Your very right about the low sulphr diesel. I had an '03 cat 6NZ pushing 850hp in my Pete. Always, ALWAYS, had to run octane boost to make it run proper.
Love your video thanks for showing how an injection pump works, wish I had half your knowledge.
Bill what an awesome video today informative and humorous thanks for making my day, I would like see more on the pump rebuild, God Bless

Wow, that's pretty impressive!
My 5020 suffered from the governor ring deteriorating but the spun main bearings become it's real problem so when I get time it's getting a over haul
Never had one of those pumps apart that far but I have had top off and tightened the leaf spring down before.
Hey Bill,,thanks so much for the weed whacker paint removal. After a long day,,I really needed that,,,lol.
Glad it hit the spot.

Always good videos thanks bill
Thanks for watching
when i built my pump on my 2640 the only way i got the fuel i got going to it now i took that spring and threw it into the junk pile. great video btw
Gutsy move!

well anything to make more smoke i guess@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226
Thanks for the video. I have a 1961 Farmall 340 with a gummed up pump like that. If I remove it to clean it how can I get it trimmed properly? Thanks.

Hey Brian, sounds like you were havin' fun! That tractor's an old 4430 puller.
Paint preping for me would have been a pressure washer a few days before, gets in the corners better...
Thanks for pump info. Is there and additive you would recommend to put in fuel ?
2 stroke oil, or some companies like AMSoil make good additives.

Just bought a 72 JD 5020 had the pump rebuilt and asked them to turn it up but still feels sluggish pulling 5 16s wish I could send it to you

It won't necessarily effect starting, but it could. Yeah, l'm sure by comparison the 5020 feels like it's in slow motion. @@joeydulin1885
So that is what plugs up the return line check valve, I have found a 6.2 GMC with that exact problem.
Is it hard to find parts for a stanadyne pump for a 4020?
By turning that screw what % more do you think you are gaining in fuel!?
It varies from pump to pump but l would say a range of 10-15% on the low side. Some pumps with larger "plungers"in would be higher.
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 good to know! Thanks! I enjoy the pump videos keep them coming if you can, makes it easier tearing mine apart!

Right now we do not have a pump test stand, so we "just bolt them on".😁

Whats the story on the pulling tractor
Which one?
I was always told when ya start jacking around turning up with your injection pump
I use a 3/8 impact driver to loosen that splined bolt
Thanks Jason, I've had so many of them crack and split, I've been a little gun shy about using an impact, l'll try it next time.

Hey "John", it's fun when you can fix peoples stuff like that.
I bet you could work on those pumps blind folded.
