That's basically the premise of my channel, is showing the Spanish speaking world - 1 video at a time. Before I can travel and return to Latin America (where I learned Spanish in Costa Rica), I'm taking advantage of living in Spain and understanding the origin of all of Latin America and the Spanish language. How did the Monarchy influence Latin America and the rebellion and subsequent independence? Why did the Spanish viceroys fall? How did the catholic language and spanish politics influence it? We had our last pre covid family trip to Morelia. So much history and beauty. Surrounded by Pueblos Magicos with so much culture and unique people! I love Michoacan and I can't wait to go visit again!
Yeah! Welcome to Morelia Gabriel! I lived there for years…. And went to the university San Nicolas de Hidalgo.. Spanish people didn’t go back to Spain.. they stayed and mixed with natives….now called MEXICANS..
If you are going to talk about la conquista I advice to read more. They did not “somehow” manage to take over. It is very interesting how they forged alliances with the enemies of the Aztecs in order to conquer Mexico. Diseases also played a major role. Even religion, as native Mexicans followed very strict rules when fighting wars that put them in disadvantage.
The Spanish empire indeed forged alliances with Tlaxcala and others, then completely backstabbed and enslaved them too. The Michoacan area was Purepecha kingdom.
Beautiful city! It looks so clean and quiet. Wonderful Spanish architecture. I loved those neatly-trimmed trees around the plaza. Thanks Gabriel for taking us out of our homes into our amazing world!
Patzcuaro is a colonial gem, and the indigenous Purepecha peoples have a strong presence in the town and the island in the middle of the lake. Please return to explore when you have time the Michoacan highlands. The food is the best in Mexico. And nearby Uruapan is the avocado center of Mexico with a rainforest right in the middle of the city!
I have a good friend who was born and lived in Mexico until he was a young man. Then he moved to the US with his mother. I asked him one time, who do you identify with, the native Indians or the Spanish? He said both.
I stayed in Morelia for three months in 1969 while attending classes at the Arca Academie de Artes. You did a great job of showing off the city's unique beauty and charm.
As a mexican American i am very proud of the Spanish architecture and heritage mexico inherited from spain. Hola Mexicano. Me guste mi cinco semanas en Michoacan durante februaro y marzo. En mi Selecciones, alla "Turismo Michoacan" con cuatro historias. Disfrutalos!
Beautiful city. I visited Morelia 20 years ago, along with Pátzcuaro and Oaxaca, my three favorite Mexican cities, so far. I also visited Janitzio Island. I also love the architecture of Hispanic America, its parks and plazas and buildings that were meant to last for centuries. They are also places where people meet and socialize and that helps your mood a lot. Mexican cities in particular have great architecture, since they were built during the Viceroyalty of New Spain. That is what the country that later become known as Mexico was called then. A very rich and large territory at the time.
Hey Drifter. I loved Michoacan and spent five weeks in the state between February and March. There are four videos in my Playlist "Turismo Michoacan." Hope this helps.
I was there in 2004, thought it was a beautiful and interesting city. The US State Department lists Michoaca province as level 4 dangerous do not go, also Guerrero and Acapulco too. They don’t look very dangerous to me.
It is because Morelia and some towns around are full of those bad people. Morelia is a safe city but anyway be careful. Acapulco is a tourist attraction but it is also full of those bad people just be careful wherever you go.
Acapulco has the 7th highest murder rate in the world. Watching a 30 minute vacation video may not give you the full picture. Its like driving through the ghetto and saying, "I know what it's like in the hood."
I'm glad that someone complimented the spanish colonial architecture. despite all the atrocities afflicted upon the native populatian in central and south america, the spanish have at least built some amazing structures that stood the test of time whereas the brits were building primarily what seemed like temporary buildings in the new world
Most Spanish that came actually intermarried the native people and formed big mixed families that are now 90% of the population. So no big atrocities committed in a general way. Of course in lots of cases justice was not the same for everyone, but it's not like British and American atrocities where they killed or displaced the natives.
And also all those buildings where built by Mexicans. The desing and architecture is obviously baroque and then neoclassical Spanish but the builders where local people.
Beautiful city. Thanks for sharing the amazing and incredible city of Morelia. I always wanted to visit Morelia hope one day I can go. Minute 21:22 the violinist is playing Víveme written by the Italian singer Laura Pausini.
He was talking about the 4th of May which is the Día de los Trabajadores or similar to a labour day for Canadians and Americans. In Latin America it celebrates the workers.
Actually, May 1st is International Labor Day, not only in Latin America, but in Europe as well. I don't know what they were commemorating on May 4th, but I think I heard there was an incident involving workers or some type of massacre, over a century ago, according to the little I could hear from what that lady using the megaphone was saying.
i believe the vibe in Mejico is different from the US because of the temperament. people of Mejico have the latino nature, like Spanish, like Italians... that's where the aliveness and the cheerfulness comes from ;) god bless it! ;)

While I am sad that you are leaving Mexico, I was happy to hear you say you would be going back. It is my favorite country of all that you have traveled to.
