SPOILER BELOW 😊
A few people have mentioned that at 21:22 there is a crack on the die, I can confirm, you are 100% correct as I've just looked at the board. It was doomed from the start 😢 Great practice though and thankyou for watching as always!
Man the infamous cracked APU. That sucks! Great job here though, you're definitely coming along just nicely
Been watching you for about a month now. Great channel and I really like your methodical style and tackling of diagnosing. its great to get down to basics with very little gimmicks. Hope your channel continues to grow and I look forward to you tackling some of the crazier fixes others dont try.
The stuff around the APU was conformal coating (UV glue), someone has coated around the APU to prevent liquid metal from getting to the components and shorting them, this is a pretty common failure on PS5's when they've been dropped.
21:21 there's a chip in the corner of the die. APU is toast. i think you're right, someone blasted that apu with a ton of heat.
Hello good video again ! I've ordered the fx 951 just like you, hoping it's going to be better than the ts100 with soldering iron tip problems for my case ^^
21:22 cracked DIE
Good catch, def toast
Just used your referral link for activating windows 10 pro mate. Worked a treat with no problem!
Keep doing what you do. Your content is awesome 👏🏽
Did you put the cable from the Soldering station to the holder for sleep mode? Loving the Content buddy.
Did you try removing any of the 4 caps next to the ram controller. Sure I’ve seen vids where they have been this issue. Great work as always fella!
Love the series. Thanks
I've been getting on pretty well with my three iron setup, my phat chisel tip is on a cheap as chips Parkside from Lidl's, on a £12 Katsu variable station I have a medium cone and on my recent purchase Aliexpress rework station it came with a fine cone tip which I bent to make a crows beak and I find that really easy to use as it has variable power on the unit control box and has a sleep function which activates when I put it back in its cradle. The hot air gun on the rework also has the sleep function, I think its magnetically activated but super handy little feature as long as the switch inside either doesn't flake. Its nice setting on the console as well for the hot air, no fumbling with the handle trying to change settings for me :D Waiting for a bulk buy off Ali for Kingbo no clean flux, very nice price and I know Phil likes Kingbo stuff should be good for what I want :D
LOVE your vids
keep it up
✌️
👌
Hi Joey great video mate! Been watching from the start of this series!
Thankyou mate, appreciate you!
Great video and repair on the digital console! Too bad someone baked the apu on the disc version. Thank you. 😀
Amazing video as always Joey. Keep 'em comming :)
Joey did you manage to remove the gold thermal paste from the 2 Xbox's. I've used it before and know that it shorts out CPU's/GPU's
Love this series. It reminds me that no, I cannot actually make this for the living
Not too shabby... Good work :)
Thanks for sharing this video. Have you ever bought electronic components from AliExpress shops?
there a lot of hdmi repair videos. but, i'd like to know why at the beginning those ports gone loose, break, wiggly.... ? some production fault, or just a owner behaviour?
Just to let you know that boot sequence is perfectly normal. The console will jump to 300ma and drop almost immediately
U should buy a nf mini soldering iron from northridge fix i have one and there amazing for microsoldering.
Well damn, a good long oxyacetylene APU reflow works every time for me when there is a big chunk of die missing, original tech must have been so unlucky!
Oh no.. the second PS5 was mean.. Thank you for the interesting Video today.. oh and don't worry.. I won't tell Hako😉😅
Afternoon Joey. Looking forward to the next episode, watching from Sweden.
Ahh good stuff! Thanks :)
I’ve always thought the Liquid Metal caused deterioration
dude you and top hat gaming look so alike i thought you was him for a sec and yes i have subbed ;)
oh yes, apu reflow was done. I have the impression that a lot of people still think that the 2 second blod is an apu exclusive problem as it was for ps4 and the first stupid thing they do is try a reflow without diagnostics which is useless.
I agree, flux around APU was dead giveaway.
At 12:02 I was pretty sure that someone (who definitely had no idea) was trying very bungled to reflow the APU. At 20:21 I was sure. Sorry you bought such crap. :(
Has anyone ever changed the liquid metal for normal thermal paste to see what the difference would be? This liquid metal seems very bad for the console in the long term especially when the console is stood on end
You had no chance there. Great effort though
Afternoon Joey
Hi! :)
It's never the CPU... unless it is. And CPU's on a PS5 are going to be a pain to remove.
But oh well. At least you have a load more of spare parts.
Maybe you can make a working PS5 (even if it is a digital only one, if the DVD drive is paired) by taking your good test board and putting it in a spare housing etc that you have? Seems like a good idea to try and make one good console out of your minuses that you have had previously, to at least help out on the spreadsheet side of things.
P.S. after postage costs (which you will need to pay, unless you do collection only) then Sally will be well and truly in the red, given you're on your 21st episode.
10:50 What you meant to say, of course, is down to 8mA, not 80mA.
Can’t understand how any1 can let their console get like this at all!
How do people destroy things inside and out to this degree? just the condition of all the plastics, it's unreal.
I don't think people worry anymore when they can sell their broken stuff for £200+
@@mikecro1111 eBay is just frustrating in how things are often priced. I guess even a broken PS5 has enough salvageable components to make it worth close to that though.
the apu was broken in the lower corner on the left, whover tried to remove it, broke it and sold it to you
this one is a donor pcb sadly, could be possible to replace that apu?
Did somebody bake this board in the oven? Like in the old days where you would fix a dying GPU by baking it?
The second one, someone has tried and got that board red hot in an attempt to reflow the APU plus the board is covered in flux - another one for the parts bin
I just dont understand how people bang up consoles so fast. My 6 year old PC is flawless and I clean the dust out every 6 months or so.
Pretty poor design placement of that little capacitor.
13:24 and 13:29 are NOT the same place...
20:46 Its looks like this Because of the Heat you used to remove the Ram Chips Without a Preheat. You Used Probably a very high Temperature to remove them.
how did you know that i have an unactivated windows account 🤔🤔😅
I wouldn’t keep that sponsor bud. Most likely illegally reselling VLK keys.
I'm a diehard gamer, I'm not one of those "fanboys" that talks smack on other consoles because they only like one brand.
But I will say, I've never seen so many issues with a console since the 7th gen consoles in the OG PS3 and 360s...the Xbox series X does not have this many issues. I've heard nothing but bad things about PS5s...they are quite ugly and I can't get past that to buy one. My series x is still kicking perfect after 2 years.
Xbox suffers from the ssd n u say ur not a fanboy but ur dissing the look of the ps5 that’s a fanboy
@@lcd8927 I'm a "fanboy" because I said the PS5 is ugly? Yeah okay idiot...most people think the exact same way I do, even PS5 owners. I've heard from the mouths of friends who have PS5s and they say they are ugly...I've been repairing consoles myself for 20 years, and I've never seen a series x with a bad SSD. It's not common like all the PS5 issues are. I'll keep my PS4 for a long time, there's nothing on PS5 that's worth spending over 500$ on a console for...I'll wait until they bring a better looking system out. I love Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo. Always have...but saying a console is ugly does not make someone a "fanboy"...you should probably go back to school and learn what that means...because you have absolutely no idea what the word fanboy means.
Mate I wouldnt be associating yourself with scdkey - they are not authorised resellers and you're likely to get your key revoked
Was thinking the same myself, these license's, whether they're actually legitimately sold as a genuine key, they're often purchased fraudulently.
I was just coming to say the same. That company is most likely selling unused or stolen VLK meant for big companies. Not sure in your country if you could be liable for promoting this. In the United States I'm sure Microsoft would go after this type of fraud. The old sane if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. And this case there is no way you can legally get a MS key for that price. Please be careful with advertisement or promoting something like this. Not trying to get you overly worried but you should he concerned.
@@eostrike I mean... I'm one to talk.. I don't pay for windows anyway but I think joey should be aware of this and steer clear, it will only cause him problems.
@@staminaman77 i reckon. Always research your sponsor.
Guys if you’ve got proof of what you’re claiming please post it into Joeys discord.
Dont buy those keys, You can do it for free...
Another broken one that has FIFA on it 😂
Shady key reseller as a sponsor?
Isn't that sponsor pretty much illegal?
if microsoft allows it, not illegal
@@arch1107 not true, they are most likely selling VLK (Volume License Keys) meant for large companies. Not for a company to purchase a bunch of keys and sell them to the general public. There is nothing legit with what they are doing.
@@eostrike if you dont know what a oem license is, i will not continue this discussion
@@arch1107 I agree, don't continue this discussion. If these are legit prices then these would be sold everywhere. It's web sites like these that make honest people have to pay more. You think what you want, I'll think what I want. It's your right to have an opinion as it is mine.
@@eostrike specially if you never bought a oem key, keep your confusion to you, and to you only, yes.
