"Mercurial World" was such a breath of fresh air for synthpop. They are also INCREDIBLE live and such humble people. So glad they're getting more attention!
I love that Mica pulled out Kylie right away because they’ve always reminded me of a diy Kylie and I love they had Art of Noise and Yellow Magic Orchestra too. They obviously love music a lot and have really delved into the history of it. And gosh they have such a nice energy together. What a cute couple and an absolutely genius musical duo. Love their new album Imaginal Disc!
Really cool to get a glimpse of who these two awesome artists are. I love seeing artists appreciating other artists and seeing a little bit behind the curtain, in general. I like them more if anything. I wish I could afford to purchase vinyls not to mention have the space for a mother load of them. It's good to be reminded that some albums deserve a full listen and were actually made to be enjoyed that way. I hope Matt and Mica are working an another album and that they don't feel trapped by the synth-pop genre or people's expectations. Keep doing what resonates with you even as it evolves!
They Might Be Giants was one of my fav all time bands back in the day. They are awesomely innovative and talented - just like you guys!! Art of Noise = awesome. YMO! I was just listening to them on my flight to Tokyo recently. Ahead of Their Time. Yes, I grew up in a great musical period of experimentation.
Never heard of these guys until I saw them open for George Clanton last year, they put on a great show. Also Flood by They Might Be Giants, what an excellent record to start with
Like their catalog on spotify. Never listened to a lot of synth pop but now I'm hooked. I get a weird feeling of nostalgia when I listen to magdalena bay. Like all the bands and artists I listened to when I was in between middle and high school in the early 2000's and my musical tastes were changing are contained within magdalena bay's whole vibe. They truly love a particular kind of sound which is beautiful in a very lynchian way while also containing musical Easter eggs from the forgotten sounds of yesteryear. In their sound I hear everything from brittany spears to Radiohead to some sounds that I cant quite place but feel so familiar it's a little disturbing that I cannot place them. Like a memory of something that only ever existed in your imagination. Anyways, very creative music, love it and cant wait to hear more from M.B.
Cool picks. Never hear of this duo, need to check them out. I like their eclectic picks and how they honestly just said “I don’t know enough about this album but I’m looking forward to hearing more”.
I love that Kylie Minogue's album was selected too! She had some impressive songs in the past that defined my childhood. Some are not on the album, but check out "Where Is the Feeling?" (the remixed version from the music video) and "Butterfly", for instance.
Thanks to Noah Caldwell-Gervais for recommending this duo; they make the finest, most compelling synth-pop music I've heard in a long time. I'm not surprised to see that they have such great taste.
My favorite artist I discovered in 2022. It's so funny to watch them from a generation before loving a lot of the same types of music and movies. I remember being that age and being so open to different styles and experiences. I'm not even that much older but it's interesting to see the similarities to my life 10 to 15ish years ago.
That's funny. Magdalena Bay popped up in my recommendations after listening to Rydeen by Yellow Magic Orchestra :) Also I've been looking for song "Moments in Love" for almost 20 years so thank you! Also "Red" by King Crimson is amazing, only five (long) songs and all killer!
cool, me personally I carry a star plastic Mako 3 midrange for all my straight shots, and for distance I use a Valkyrie fairway driver. For shot shaping shots, I like to use a Teebird, but always putt with my Innova invaders, especially a beaded one when putting inside 40 feet
i love how most people are picking out their favourite records and these guys are like "the artwork looks cool. Never heard of the artist or this record but its mine now"
I also discovered Mulholland Drive during lockdown. Got completely obsessed haha. Such a great and strange film! And oh, also; I'm totally in love with Mica!
You know you're old when your new favorite artists look so young, and they're going on about looking forward to getting to know the albums you grew up with. Lmao, I have to tell myself "this is normal and cool."
All this artist, talk about Radiohead or Thom Yorke… have any of them heard of Japan, David Sylvian, Mick Karn… those guys were like 40yrs ahead… they did all that Radiodhead did. Sorry no a hater but look for Japan as a group and their separate work as well…
These album choices explain Imaginal Disk's sound so well
I appreciate that they wear their names on their shirts in case we forget which one is which.

Yeah it was one of my favourites of 2021, amazing feels
Question what artist synthpop you recomend me?

Genuinely my favorite band to come out in the past decade. Their sound is so consistently unique.
One of the most underrated pop acts out there right now.
these guys are just the cutest and "merculiar world" is genuinely of the best albums i have ever listened to, i love them and their work so much.
The music from these guys is just pure ecstasy. Magdalena Bay best find for me the past few years
I’m obsessed with mercurial world since it came out, it’s really cool to see they’re getting more attention
Ugh I love Kylie pls collab with her ICONIC
Kylie's great huh, her new album DISCO is sooo good 🤟👌👑🙏
They’re both gorgeous wtf
Bay panic
Panic in the streets of everywhere
they both look pretty normal to me. lol.
More like Magdalena Bae, right?
@@nathanreiber6819 literally normal looking people
Love Thom Yorke's "Tomorrow's Modern Boxes" because of its vibes as well! Such an underrated album!

I like how diverse your musical preferences are .
Omg the matching shirts ahah
They're very chill, I like them
I'd like to thank magdalena bay for giving me a bunch of new stuff to listen to 🙏
I just started listening to their music a couple days ago. Already obsessed. ❤
Knowing Matt has now listened to "Reckoning" and feeling like this will influence their music in the future is a real sweet feeling.
Wow I just became mildly to severely obsessed with this band, so cool to see her pick up a Slothrust record. One of my fav bands!

The anime edit to killshot (slowed + reverb) hahahahah i cant
I really like Mica's choices. She has excellent taste.
5:15 I like the idea that she just sees rainbows upside down, it feels very in-tune with their art
Finally a band that mentions (sort of) Saint Etienne!
Cool picks. Never hear of this duo, need to check them out. I like their eclectic picks and how they honestly just said “I don’t know enough about this album but I’m looking forward to hearing more”.
I found that weird. As if they weren't actually aware of their own musical influences. Maybe they'd just never stopped to consider it before.
I like their honesty too. Like they aren’t just there to show off but actually to discover new stuff
Reckoning is my favorite album by REM. Harborcoat, Pretty Persuasion etc. You're gonna love it!
Thanks to Mica discovering Slothrust, I just discovered them too. This band rules!
Glad you know about art of noise and yellow magic.
They Might Be Giants and R.E.M.! Great choses!👍
Great band with great taste… David lunch and king crimson!
I love that Kylie Minogue's album was selected too! She had some impressive songs in the past that defined my childhood. Some are not on the album, but check out "Where Is the Feeling?" (the remixed version from the music video) and "Butterfly", for instance.
Revisiting this video now that Imaginal Disk is out. Starting with Flood 🔥
I was waiting for them to show up!!!

Mica was serving face in this video omg
Their music is so tight. 🔥
Wow, nice one. I've been playing the new Yeule and Mercurial World recently when I go to the gym including this morning.
That 5 hour outro hits during the deadlifts
Oh, I love you guys so much.
it's crazy that imaginal disk reminded me a lot of mulholland drive and surrealism in general and now watching this... makes sense lol
That outro riff is chills
It’s so cool now they’re both a couple of Prog nerds like me!! You can definitely hear it in the new album!
Eclectic choices. Nice couple.
OK, Matt enjoying Emerson, Lake and Palmer and King Crimson somehow weirdly makes 100% sense
Mica is so sweet and beautiful !!
That’s REMs best album in my view
woah King Crimson? that was unexpected!!
they legit were on a prog band before Magdalena Bay lol
@@PokyGem WHAT? i'm really curious, could you please give me the name of the band?

does anyone know the tune you can hear in the background when they are talking about my hero academia? it's very faint but it caught my ears
It's Magdalena Bay's song "Killshot (slowed + reverb)"
That Yellow Magic Orchestra record is insanely good, you won't believe the synth work. PD: Why do they also have to be so attractive? It ain't fair.
lmao they got my hero academia because of the edits, love that haha
i love them
How tall are they might be giants?
so awesome
I love their shirts!
Saw these guys in Tucson back in October of last year and they reinvigorated my love of dance music. Check em out!
Dude… this is a trip. I was watching my hero academia and listening to slothrust… two things that she bought but hadn’t heard yet……… THA ODDS THO.
Nice to see the younger ones diggin' the crate for records.....
You guys are super
anyone know what song is playing at the end when credits start?
Mercurial World, by Magdalena Bay
bob stanley and pete wigg, saint etienne! Sad that you didn't know who they were.
Oooooo Red!!! AND Discipline!? So fucking true
I wish they would pull the records out of the sleeves. I want to see the designs and colors if any.
