This was Madonna's tribute to Marilyn Monroe singing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend". Madonna got the look down perfect. My favorite Madonna songs are ballads ("Live to Tell" and "Gone") where she shows off her voice. The woman can sing for real!
Madonna was the girl crush for most of the pop culture oriented female teenagers at the time. After seeing Lucky Star and Borderline, I tried to emulate her style and look from head to toe (much to my Daddy's dismay). The rosaries as jewelry, the cross earrings, the teased blonde hair, heavy makeup and bracelets up to the elbows on both arms. Lace leggings and lace fingerless gloves. There were many times where he sent me back upstairs to change clothes or "find the rest of my skirt" 😳🤨😆
madonna was in her early 20s in the early mid 80s... to see how sweet / clean / innocent looking she was until 1988... she really was a great performer and did well ...
"Papa Don't Preach" is a great Madonna song you might want to do a reaction video to. Madonna was great when she was young, when she got older, not so much because she got weird.
That song holds the record for being stuck in my head the longest. 30 freaking days. Despite that I still love it and the video. I don’t think she ever looked better.
Madonna was Cardi B, Lady Ga Ga and Taylor Swift, all wrapped in one. This was her third number 1 (oops, only went 2) single, in a long list of hits. She had 63 top-ten hits.
She pushed all the boundaries! -80’s-like a prayer, borderline, into the groove, like a virgin, lucky star, papa don’t preach -90’s -vogue, justify my love, secret, bad girl, express yourself -2000’s-what it feels like for a girl, music, hung up, sorry, don’t tell me. Some of Madonna’s videos were banned on TV!
Yeah, the first album.. She burst on the scene and programmers didn't know what to do with her. KROQ (Rock and New Wave) played her, the R&B stations played her and the pop stations played her music. With that first album it seemed like she came from nowhere.
Brad and Lex, you should definitely react to her song Dress You Up, the concert footage video. In my opinion, this is her best song! The concert is straight up 80s and it is intensely catchy!
All hail the 👑 Queen of Pop!! Brad & Lex PLEASE go down this rabbit hole. You can't grasp Madonna from one song - or even five. She's a chameleon who pushes every boundary, every decade.
You need to check how she came out. The first time Madonna aired on U.S. televsion was in 1982 on a show called Dancing On Air performing her then club hit Everybody. But rather skip to January 1984, Madonna performs her hit Holiday on American Band Stand with a short insightful LEGENDARY interview. HONESTLY YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS ONE.
I was in JR high when Madonna made these songs. She was definitely extremely popular. She pushed boundaries of the time, which made her very popular but she kept pushing the boundaries and (in my opinion) she always chased the fame it originally brought her. I think one of her best songs was Papa Don’t Preach. Powerful song for the time when teen pregnancy was a big topic. Yes, this is how we got WAP. People want the fame she had so they chased pushing the boundaries. But they didn’t have originality so they went for shock. When people before you have already done this the only thing you can do is be extreme shock. Todays artists have to go for extreme but it often lacks the substance of what made the original artists so successful. There is a point where it’s no longer “empowering” it’s just pornography in a pretty package. Madonna fell victim to this too. She just pushed and pushed until a lot of her audience grew tired…. Which takes a bit away from her legacy of where she came from.
"But they didn’t have originality so they went for shock...it’s just pornography in a pretty package.." That says it all. Comparing Cardi B, or others, to Madonna is just that.
LMAO at Brad's raised eyebrows...they get any higher past that hat!!! 😳😂🤣 Baby voice, hmmm, never really got it, but Brittany does it too. One thing about Madonna, she really has a beautiful voice. Listen to her album Something to Remember a collection of ballads.
Madonna was the Lady Gaga of her day - and it's clear Madonna was one of Gaga's biggest inspirations in terms of style and music. Papa don't preach is a banger.
You guys should do another early song by her called "Borderline". It's actually a pretty good song.... And this is coming from a straight up rock n roll fan.
That's just bubblegum Madonna. She released a few really great songs during the 80's and the 90's though. You should definitely listen/react to "Like A Prayer" (in my opinion one of the best pop songs ever written), "Vogue" and "Frozen" ( two of the greatest music videos ever made) if you don't know those yet.
Anyone who say’s Madonna released only a few good songs during the 80’s & 90’s, is someone who can’t be taken seriously. The woman carried the 80’s & 90’s and has the hits to prove it.
In this video, Madonna paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe who did a song called "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" all about material items. Madonna was always pushing the envelope by being and doing all things provocative. Lady GaGa fashioned herself after Madonna who was always changing it up. Madonna will forever be the O.G. though!!
“This use to be my playground” is a song nobody reacts to if you want to dive deeper into Madonna’s hits. Her voice is so captivating and it’s also the theme song from a big Hollywood movie starring Tom Hanks, “A league of their own”.
Two people in their late 20’s to have never heard this song before 😳 You guys are so lucky 💯🔥 I would recommend listening to Prince-Purple Rain and Michael Jackson-Thriller 👍
Madonna truly was ground breaking when she came out. She made it ok for women to own their sexuality. She was very aggressive and that excited and upset a lot of people. I loved every minute of her rise to fame. It was an exciting time to follow music. I was 12 when she really started getting airplay in 1984. By the time this song came out in 1985, she was the biggest star in the world. She kept up that pace, charting 17 top ten hits from 1984 to 1990, 8 of those were number 1 hits.
Wife here..Of coarse.., Loved Madonna in the eighties..See she's being so very honest..80's was known as the Material Wealth decade..Big..Big...Big...Spending...!
Lex, girl, my heart breaks to hear you know mostly about Madonna from the tabloids. She is the queen of pop, can't miss with Madonna, she influenced EVERYONE, she was a trend setter, game changer, Madonna is everything, girl, lol.
Madonna was worldwide the nr.1 Female Superstar in the mid 80's and 90's. that's on Music and on Fashion, when Madonna had something new, the most young girls wanted her clothes. She was the most selling Artist of those 2 decades.
Now this was when Madonna was still fresh and new and exciting :) Now go and check out the video of Walk Off The Earth covering Material Girl. That is an awesome one :)
We always loved Madonna.....I remember when it was all her..MJ and Prince they dominated a few years together as 3....like a virgin next. Gwen Stefani reminded us of a fresh young Madonna when she hit in 95
I can't even begin to convey how big a roll she had in my young life! I got a "Boom Box" and 2 tapes (Madonna & Cyndi Lauper) for Christmas when I was 13 (1984). Material girl and Girls just want to have fun!! My grandpa had an old bus in his back yard and the acoustics we're FANTASTIC!! I played the hell out of those tapes and sang as loud as I could, dancing around all by myself!! Such good memories...😁
If you look up Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. By Marilyn Monroe You'll see where the inspiration for this video. Later in life Madonna said she would probably never do this song "live" ever again because the "Material Girl" moniker became her nickname for years and for this she was not happy that people weren't separating the real her from her singer/performer moniker. She didn't like that people thought that she was really materialistic.
Dining like a virgin and the album cover and backside was very controversial. Ppl didn't say things like that on radio and try didn't roll around the floor on tv
I don't know what you have reacted to with Madonna but I suggest Borderline, Lucky Star, or Like A Virgin as next songs for Madonna. That's her earlier stuff.

She was VERY comfortable in her sexuality then as now, lol. Big fan of early Madonna. Check out Burning Up, Borderline, Rain, Papa Don't Preach, This Used to Be My Playground from the movie A League of Their Own, Everybody, La Isla Bonita, Lucky Star, Cherish, Take a Bow (one of my favorites), Holiday, Dress You Up (with my love) - live version, Express Yourself, Crazy for You, Live to Tell, Vogue, Into the Groove

Madonna is the most successful female recording artist of all time with 335 million records sold and is the most successful solo touring artist of all time. Last year was ranked no.2 only behind the Beatles as the most successful artist on the billboard hot 100 chart. You cannot compare cardi b and Madonna. Madonna is an icon and legend. Madonna also had longevity. Madonna scored Atleast 1 top 10 from her first 12 studio albums starting from Madonna in 1983 to MDNA in 2012!! Cardi b will not be heard if in another 5 years
She was the first white female singer to fully and freely embrace female sexuality and sex in general. She was considered much more controversial than Cardi B is today, her records and vides were banned here and around the globe, and she was called out by the Pope at the time for her overt sexuality. If it weren't for Madonna, Cher, Donna Summer etc. women would still be singing referencing men as a reason to exist.
I vividly remember the early Madonna years and how she was so provocative and boundary-pushing. Try "Holiday" next if you haven't heard this 80s banger from her yet.
She was THE Most Edgy of our 80's Time...Magical Radio Era to grow up in
1985 was an incredible year music-wise and Madonna was one of the artists who was everywhere. So many good songs.

Live To Tell is my fave too. Always loved it. It really showcases her voice better than her more poppier material.
She's a complete hack. Every "look" she ever presented to the public was pilfered from someone else.

Madonna in the eighties was great. I will highly recommend Borderline from her debut.
Madonna had major hits in the 90s too! Don’t tell me, Ray of light, Beautiful Stranger and Frozen just to name a few.
