Most people do not realize Donna Summer vocal abilities, range and versatility. Her voice was naturally powerful and she could sing the high and difficult notes almost effortless until she died in 2012. She was far more than a disco Queen. One of the greatest singers of all time. Such power, control and depth in her amazing tone. Had number 1 hits until she died.

Not only did she have unmatched vocal firepower, she had class. No skimpy risque outfits and gyrating back up dancers like the so called talent of Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

That voice grabbed me the very first time I heard it in 1978. Man, she made it look so easy! Donna, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton-John, Karen Carpenter, Stevie Nicks, and Pat Benatar were my favorite female artists from the mid 70s through the mid 80s. I was fortunate enough to see Donna in concert twice: in 1979 on the Bad Girls tour, and in 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl, She did not disappoint! I'm enjoying your reactions to all of the music I grew up on. You are a beautiful , young lady! :)

Look at 0:57 for a classic reaction. It took just one line of Donna Summer's singing for DayOne to throw out her arms in sheer delight. Usually people prefer the first version of a song they've heard, whether cover or original, and it's nice to see DayOne instantly spot the gem. (It makes me recall how this song also walloped me at first listen, way back in the fall of 1979).

The Queen of Disco! My mom had these albums when I was growing up in the 70's (as a little white boy) . She had a controversial hit "Love to Love You Baby" which was waaaay sexy. Also that songs album cover is still to this day the sexiest album cover of all time IMO.

Donna was the first female artist to have two songs in the top 5 of the Hot 100 at the same time (Hot Stuff-Bad Girls). She repeated that feat two months later(Dim All The Lights-Enough Is Enough) She is still the only female artist to have had eight top 5 Hot 100 hits in a19 month period (Summer of 1978- Winter of 1980) All 8 songs sold over 1 million copies. No other female artist has ever done it. Not Whitney, Madonna, Janet, Rhianna, Beyonce, Mariah or Ariana. She was HUGE! Please check out her hit I Feel Love from 1977......It changed music forever!

Another classic with no official music video. This is a live performance from Dinah Shore's daytime talk show that a fan overdubbed with the studio version of the song and did some editing to extend the clip because the saxaphone solo on the record was not included in the live version. At the beginning when you hear Donna speaking, that's the audio from the live performance. After that it's all overdubbed. This was a couple years before MTV and a couple decades before RUclips. Artists were not expected or required to make music videos as a promotional tool. You may want to check out the unoverdubbed live performance. Donna was not a studio trick, she was a great live singer as well; one of the GOATS. And her background singers there behind her are her sisters Mary and Dara (the third one's name escapes me).

Selena LOVED Donna Summer and wanted to sing songs like hers. IN the movie she even tells her dad that she doesn't want to sing Spanish/Tejano music, she wants to sing Donna Summer songs!! I think that Jennifer Lopez did a cover version of this song a few years ago also, but no one sings it like the true Queen , Donna Summer! Check out I Feel Love, McArthur Park, She Works Hard for the Money, This Time I KNow Its for Real, and Enough is Enough for her other Big Hits!

I'll take that over the lazy sampling and computer substituted talent most are churn out today. Wish Donna wasn't in NYC on 9/11, I do believe the dust was the major reason we lost her so tragically soon.

Hey Angela..... I have a Donna Summer song on my cleaning day playlist but it's been years since I've heard this song. I was so sad when she passed away because I knew her voice went with her but thank goodness we still have these memories that we can listen to today. Enjoyed your reaction. This is a link to the song on my playlist. It's called, That's the Way. There were so many songs of Donna's that I think didn't get the proper recognition they should have. She was just the whole package. Take care and be well. Peace.
