I finally got to see Cheap Trick many years ago when they came to Australia with Def Leppard. Great concert. Robin Zander was awesome, his voice was incredible. They are actually back touring in Australia in a few weeks time.
I’ve seen Cheap Trick twice. It was two different nights back to back. The first night was an all acoustic set in a theater. The next night was all electric in a club. Very cool experience seeing them two nights in a row in such different settings.
RZ said in the June 1979 Cheap Trick cover story in Rolling Stone magazine, that he wanted to sing and record some country albums. Remember he and his singing partner Brian Beebe performed many covers of different misical genres in their time playing together in the early 70's. Most notablly their residency in the Wisconsin Dells, and so many other venues across the Illinois, Wisconsin and the midwest of America. I've heard this record and it's fantastic. Great songwriting, excellent performances, snd most importantly that fantastically amazing tenor of the legendary Robin Zander.
Grew up next door to Robin and his family (my brother was his sons best friend) we lived on countryside Blvd so having an album quite literally speak my childhood makes it still one of my favorites! And I don’t even like country!!
Hey Brendon -- Great to see you dive deeper into this un-released Robin Zander album. I think I have pretty much every Cheap Trick related studio release -- except this one. I even have the 2002 album from Harmony Riley the band that Rick's sons Miles and Daxx (current CT drummer) were in. If you don't have the Harmony Riley album and would like to check it out, maybe we can swap CD-Rs? Let me know...
Hi Jared, that’s nice of you to offer. However in this age of new technology my computers no longer have CD players so I’ve lost the capability of burning. I suppose it was inevitable. But if I was still set up for it I’d gladly send you a copy. It’s a great album and worthy to be fully released. I can’t believe it’s been around 10 years now and still no official release. I read somewhere it came down to licensing issues from the various song writers. I wish Robin would give a clear account as to what happened.
@@BrendonSnyder I still have my old Sony 2-tray deck to burn CD-Rs! Saw the copy on eBay you mentioned, but not sure it's worth $30 to add it to my collection. I agree that it seems very odd to have an album done and released -- then pull it right away. I'm sure it all came down to $. Didn't know it included a track from 'Standing on the Edge.' Such a solid release that too few people have probably heard except CT fans. Well, if you can find somebody who can burn a copy -- let me know! OR you could send me your copy, I'll make a copy and send yours right back (kidding/not kidding).
Don't agree that the first solo album sounds like a Cheap Trick album. It's totally different. Much prefer it to Countryside Boulevard, which really does lean very heavily on country music...
Hey Mike, sure it’s different but so are each Cheap Trick album. I think it has all the elements that a Cheap Trick fan would like which makes it like a Cheap Trick Album. But that’s just my opinion. As for Countryside Blvd, it’s not as far leaning as you might think. That or you don’t listen to country and know what real country can sound like. Because despite some fiddle and slide guitar it’s not very country at all. But again, just my opinion.
Love the recently released single by the band and their latest version of "Rebel Rebel" (Trick does it more like the way Bowie would do the song live rather than the studio version). I've seen this band at least 8 times...and that's still NOT enough. Go see them when they ARE the headlining act and NOT the opener..... One of the greatest LIVE bands around...
Yeah they are a heck of a band live and I’ve seen them headline twice. Two nights in a row. One playing all acoustic in a theater and the next night rocking out electric in a tiny club.
@@BrendonSnyder All acoustic? Very cool. I wonder if there's a bootleg of that performance available somewhere. I love bootlegs. There was, and I don't know if they're still available..but for awhile on the internet, there was a HUGE amount of various radio broadcast recordings available. They were NOT sanctioned by the band..but they were quite good. Way better sound quality than your average bootleg...and most of these had some blistering performances! Take care and good vid by the way!
I think it was a one-off special pair of shows to promote a release of something at the time. It wasn’t an acoustic tour. If you want to try and find the show, it took place in NYC at Town Hall in 2001. The second night which was electric was at Irving Plaza.
@@BrendonSnyder just checked with the seller on EBay. 21.99 has NO booklet inside. It’s a FAKE. You got a real one. I’d rather pay you for a burned copy😉
Carlos didn’t play on it so I don’t think his lawsuit would have affected it. Even so the lawsuit has been settled and it still hasn’t been released. I think he just realized the country crazy has passed and it’s not going to really get any traction today. He could re-record the album in a more rock setting and release both versions and I think then he’d get more attention with it.

Wow that’s going back a long way to saying he wanted to make a country album. Crazy then that it’s never been released.
Great video. I had no idea that this material existed. I saw Cheap Trick with Foreigner not too long ago.
Cool, now you have something to search and keep an eye out for as a great find!
Great that you reviewed this album. I've heard some of the songs but sadly still do not have a copy.

Very cool story and experience! Nice that there is an album all about it! I just wish it was more readily available for all to experience.
@@BrendonSnyder I agree! I’ll mention it next time I see him! More people deserve to hear it lol
Good vid. I talk about this album in my book "Still Competition: The Listener's Guide to Cheap Trick."
Robert, LOVE your book! I been through it about 3 times since buying. CT are our hometown Rockford heroes for me
Hi Robert! I’ll have to check out your book so I can get some more info on this great album.
@@BrendonSnyder Sounds good! Anytime you're up for a chat about CT, let me know. Cheers!
I don’t have the CD, but I have the digital version and it’s a good album. Would like a rerelease of this on CD.

Hey you! #cheaptrickbookclub
Had or have a Zander solo album has a cover of jump into the fire by nilsson
Yeah the 1993 self titled solo album.
I caught the album on Stitcher when it came out and then it disappeared. I thought it was really good. I wish I would have gotten that digital version
Yeah I still have hope one day it will get an official release.
I heard it back then. It was amazing. It was on Stitch i believe.
Do you have any David Bowie box sets?
Yes I have 5 different Bowie boxsets.
