i had the amazing experience of getting to watch tom verlaine write music for a soundtrack in my friend’s living room in the early 90s. what a genius, and this is a worthy tribute.
@@atticusfinch6038 RIP Tom Verlaine. What Albini said "My favorite thing about especially the more meandering parts of Television was the way the music held onto a tonal center without having to frame it in "changes" or "heads" or even a fucking riff. You could tell it was still going almost through telepathy..."
Just saw them live in SD last week. Music and backing vocals bring me back to a world that wasn’t only filled with nights in outer space but also the Go-Go’s and My Bloody Valentine (and Television!). This song is a gem. You can turn over the lyrics in your mind for hours like a mantra or meditation.
I love how I love the band alvvays and they just happen to have a song dedicated to Tom Verlaine while I typed in his name trying to find some good live television
When the backing vocals come in at 2:10 is even more awesome than the album version. Now we can clearly hear their la-la's wich on the record are full of reverb (wich it's also nice). In the album sounds more dreamy, but here is more vulnerable and emotional for some reason. Also: her smile at 1:56 because she realizes she just missed the lyrics ("And if you ever see a dime" when it says "And if I ever see a dime" :)
Just now appreciating this record, and this song in particular. Given all the layers and harmonies, it's awesome that they can recreate it live like this...wow.
Looking back, I should have known All the nights that I spent in outer space If in fact, I had said no What becomes of this? Fantastic song and performance. Rest in Peace Tom Verlaine.

Greatest comment of all time.
Tom Verlaine himself has passed away today at 73.
RIP Tom Verlaine. Just heard about his passing yesterday on 2023-01-28. Simplicity never sounded so complete and full.
I can’t thank you guys enough for creating this masterpiece of an album. I love you all.
i have watched this more than anyone else on this planet

That’s a hell of a friend circle you had just casually hung with the leading man of the legendary television

LONG LIVE TOM VERLAINE!!! R.I.P.
This is becoming one of my favorite songs on the album. Great rendition of it!
I know right, at first I couldn't get into it but after a bunch of listens it's now one of my faves too, it's a classic grower
I love so much this live version of Tom Verlaine, more powerful 💖
The mixing on these things are always so beautiful.
Also, great ass band. Love their work.
Always been BLOWN away by the audio from the techs at KEXP. Sonic perfection👍

Came here to say this. The mixing on this makes it my favorite version. The backing vocals feel both transcendent and vulnerable.
Rest in peace, Tom!

I hope they play bored in bristol one day :(

KEXP live sound for ever.
Such a moving outro.

Who won't be steered on any course or lane
And if I ever see a dime
You'd take that money to divide and separate
When you walk away
It better be for good
I know you'll be there in the rain
Glowing like the first night
Telling me you've changed
I know you'll be there in the rain
Glowing like the first night
Trying to explain
That when you walk away
It's gonna be for good
You were my Tom Verlaine

"Olhando para trás, eu já devia saber
Todas as noites que passei nas nuvens
Se, na verdade, eu tivesse dito não
O que teria acontecido? É difícil de dizer
Vou me sentir melhor com a brisa nas costas
E dormirei melhor sabendo que já passou
Olhando para trás, eu já devia saber
Todas as noites que passei nas nuvens
Cigarros e velhos arrependimentos empilhados
No fundo do meu cérebro
Quando você for embora
Melhor ser de vez
Eu apostei em um cavalo
Quem não será guiado em nenhum curso ou pista
E se eu ver um centavo
Você pegaria esse dinheiro
Para dividir e separar
Quando você for embora
Melhor ser de vez
Eu sei que você estará lá na chuva
Brilhando como na primeira noite, me dizendo que você mudou
Eu sei que você estará lá na chuva
Brilhando como na primeira noite, tentando se explicar
Quando você for embora
Melhor ser de vez
Você era meu Tom Verlaine
Apenas sentado na rua"
backgrounds, fucking glorious
Although Tom would smoke every guitarist on here I'm glad he was remembered by others.
FINALLY
1:52 she smiles because she got the lyrics wrong
Wow. Sweet and juicy.
I thought this was a cover of The Family Cat song.
