Having grown up and been frequent to Roncy I have seen a LOT of changes, I still really miss the Granowska bakery that use to be in the old Tim's location. I wish I could afford to move into that area but that's just a pipe dream, I love walking the streets during the Christmas season looking at all the decorated homes at night. Most of the Poles left for Mississauga 15-20 years ago, I believe most are around Tomken Rd. The building at 220 Roncy is the Polish credit union.
@roxorz I totally agree with everything you said. Also a lot of older Polish and Ukrainian folks who bought houses there after the war, sadly passed on.
Thanks for the vid Johnny! FYI, the Bloor and Dundas may appear "ugly" to many, if we privilege the "look" of wealthy, modern neighbourhoods that cater to wealthier residents over older intersections that cater to poorer residents. The building in the northeast corner is one of the few affordable buildings in the city where refugees and new immigrants can reside and start building a future. These residents need "ugly" Dollaramas to be able to afford household items. As you walk down Roncesvalles, the neighbourhood starts catering to wealthier residents and of course you see more bakeries, coffee shops, gift shops, specialty stores, etc. But let's celebrate both neighbourhoods as they cater to different but equally important residents in our city.
High Park Garage was converted to lofts. I can’t recall just how many times I’ve walked up and down Roncesvalles over 15 years. Surprised to see how little things have changed. The Polish institution is a credit union. I once took the King streetcar from Dundas West to Broadview.
The story behind the Barenaked Ladies song "Jane" is that co-writer Stephen Duffy saw the intersection on a map and remarked that it sounded like the most beautiful intersection in the world; the other co-writer Steven Page "didn't wanna break his heart to tell him it wasn't." Indeed Jane-St. Clair is a pretty dismal intersection with a car dealership and a rail overpass
Johnny if you still have your old Ebike not the newer ones, I like to buy an old Ebike from you. I want to get into a side hustle working for Uber Eats.
Little Poland has changed over the past thirty years. All of the Polish businesses closed, and moved to Mississauga. There are only two Polish delis left. What a shame!
Джонни привет, а ты не был на рождественской ярмарке в Старом Квебеке 5 декабря? Это волшебное место, такой сказочный город, мне очень пронравилась ярмарка у них.
funny that. could not watch the live stream and just opened this video. without even knowing what you were going to say regarding the ugliest intersection I said Bloor and Dundas West. and it is. its even worse in person.
This was a good 👍 video ✅️ 📹 too many recent videos have been filled with bike lane removal complaints ect. It's okay to do a couple videos 📹 on that topic but it's honestly getting old.
I’m absolutely gutted because I was supposed to be out in Toronto on vacation right now. However, I went for a check up at the physician and they discovered that my kidneys are not functioning well at all, so I’m effectively grounded and will need a transplant in the future. I’m determined to get back to Canada after I’ve had it and I’m back to 100%
Love the facts and information about the buildings and city
Thanks!
Lovely video Johnny

What a wonderful place! I’m so glad I can at least take a look through this video.❤
My grandparents used to live in that area for 20yrs and I used to visit them every Wednesday

well said they needed like any one else but i think johnny did not mean anything by that happy holidays to all
I didn't intend to say it's a bad neighbourhood, just that the built form is (objectively) ugly of that particular intersection.
Bless Sunday morning from Montreal QC ! .. hello there and hello everyone ! ..

It's boring but it's not ugly.

Polimex is Polish Import Export.
Would you find a scarf helpful on these cold, windy days?
I love your walks. We have problems but I am so very grateful to live in Canada.

Hey Johnny you were in my ugly neighborhood ❤
That intersection is the most depressing ever!

Every city has ugly intersections. Some are even worse.
It's so ugly it's endearing. Maybe better than another bland condo.Call it neighbourhood character.
Chopin Restaurant is Polish. Frederic Chopin was a composer & virtuoso piano player. He died too young. Why? Because our cruel world hates artists.

Appreciate the feedback but there's going to be a lot more pointing out the idiocy of the province. Check out the latest Not Just Bikes video ;)
@JohnnyStrides we will Phone 📱 Doug Ford on The Sunday Night 🌙 stumbles stream & ask him for some compromises 😆 🤣

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you can make the trip soon!
Toronto is an ugly city. Just look at all the grey. It looks so dystopian.
You might think it's ugly but i'm glad to call it home 😄
@@bezosphere have you been anywhere else?
@@brockashocka5565 I've been at your mothers house once, wasn't too pleasant
So umm.. where do you call home?
