    From Wikipedia:
    Interstate 95 (I-95) is part of the Interstate Highway System and runs from Miami, Florida, to the Canada-United States border near Houlton, Maine. In the US state of New York, I-95 extends 23.50 miles (37.82 km) from the George Washington Bridge in New York City to the Connecticut state line at Port Chester. The George Washington Bridge carries I-95 across the Hudson River from New Jersey into New York City. There, I-95 runs across Upper Manhattan on the Trans-Manhattan Expressway for 0.81 miles (1.30 km) through Washington Heights. It continues east across the Harlem River on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge and onto the Cross Bronx Expressway. In the Bronx, I-95 leaves the Cross Bronx at the Bruckner Interchange, joining the Bruckner Expressway to its end. North of the interchange with Pelham Parkway, it then continues northeast via the New England Thruway (which is part of the New York State Thruway system) out of New York City into Westchester County and to the Connecticut state line, where I-95 continues on the Connecticut Turnpike.
    The Trans-Manhattan Expressway also carries US Route 1. Approximately 280,000 vehicles traverse the expressway on a daily average basis. Completed in 1960, the expressway is located below ground level, in an open cut; however, the George Washington Bridge Bus Station and the highrise Bridge Apartments are built over the expressway, creating intermittent tunnels. It is maintained by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). Although the highway geographically runs east-west, it carries the north-south routings of I-95 and US 1. The westbound lanes carry the southbound designations of both routes, while the eastbound lanes carry the northbound designations.

    I have been taking the pike from Baltimore to Woonsockett Rhode Island to see relatives at least twice a year since 1950.That's about 150 trips.In the early days it took 10 to 11 hours to do the 400 miles but now it can be done in about 8 or 9.THe original toll was $1.25 for 118 miles to route 46.In the 60's an additional 4.4 miles were added for the trucks and is now around $16.

    A lot of people don't like the power plant that sits next to the interstate on the NJTP shown in this video, but I kind of like it. I think it's different and unique. It's not your typical skyline or farmland. Great video!👍🏾

    Ah, the NJ Turnpike on a sunny day! Done this drive from DC many a time. 01:38 Three cheers for the Grover Cleveland service area! And by some miracle the traffic on your trip on the Cross Bronx was actually not too terrible, all things considered, at least it was moving. Back home in Texas they would have long ago somehow figured a way to double deck that baby (they’re now double decking a section of I-35 northbound out of San Antonio). Keep on truckin, MMT, it’s a pleasure to watch. Keep safe from the crazy motorists on 95. Especially here in Maryland.

      Oh yeah, no one builds them like Texas.

    • @mariotorres6287
      @mariotorres6287 Год назад +2

      It would not have been a great idea to double-deck the CBE. In the first place, before it was constructed, the area was highly densely populated, with much displacement of people, thanks to Mr. Robert Moses. The Bronx is the borough I was raised in, and the impacts of that road were clearly experienced. In Texas, you most likely have the open space, but not in a densely populated borough in NYC. And why double-deck the CBE and pollute the air even more?

    Excellent coverage again MMT! I have read about plans to 'cap' the X-Bronx. I wonder what your thoughts are on capping interstate highways through urban areas. The only concern for me would be fires.

    • @MileageMikeTravels
      @MileageMikeTravels  Год назад +2

      Usually a cap isn’t a bad idea. The issue mainly comes down to cost. It can be quite expensive in many places.

    Just an observation Mike, why are New Jersey roads smoother and less potholes than New York?

    • @javierclyburn5688
      @javierclyburn5688 Год назад +6

      As a native of NJ, I think our roads are smoother is because we call and complain and hold the state accountable for things that need to be done regarding the well-being of the state.👍🏾

    • @MileageMikeTravels
      @MileageMikeTravels  Год назад +2

      Good question. I haven’t researched as to why but overall NJ definitely has superior roads than all the states nearby it.

    95 should not have been planned with 6 lanes it should of been planned with 12 lanes or like how the NJ turnpike is

    • @truthserum6808

      There was already existing neighborhoods in the path of I-95 in NYC. It was a difficult task biking the 6 lanes. I encourage you to search “Cross Bronx Expressway” to learn more about the challenges.

      It looks like there's a panhandler on the left side of the freeway. Either that, or somebody who is very foolishly trying to cross the expressway as a pedestrian. Incredibly dangerous place to be.
