Tuning: Drop C

*Smash like for riffs*
More heaviest riffs in all the tunings coming? 👀
MOAR RIFFS... ok, I'll stop yelling. Maybe...
only if you redo it and play my last serenade right :P
Sorry Nick but no "drop" tuning (as in tuned so the three lowest strings form a single fret power chord) can be the best when the double drop version is always superior (for double drop d you'd also drop the high e to d).
Would love to see the drop E video re-done with 8 string riffs, keep it up nik🤘🏻
If the last several singles he released weren't obvious enough for you, Nik is STILL an absolute monster of a musician. The fact that he isn't at 1m subs yet is CRIMINAL.

I love how on any video these days like this you can just expect there to be someone timestamping and there is pretty much 99.99% of the time
@Dragon Ball fans can't read Holy hipster cringe
That Converge riff tho. Kurt is an absolute riff monster
Kurt Ballou!
yeah i'm so happy he included my favorite band!
I'll stay gold !
Agreed, goes so fkn hard.
greatest band of all time imo
“Drop C is the best tuning ever made….EVER!!!”
Nick Nocturnal 2023
Truer words have never been spoken
Drop C is, hands down, my favorite tuning. Even when I'm bringing my acoustic guitar to play at a friend/family gathering, I find a way to play non-metal with drop C
I’m personally more of a B standard kinda guy but drop c is nice
@@radiant_7354b standard is a killer tuning
Seeing SOAD on here made me incredibly happy because they were my first introduction to Drop C and you can’t not include them in a list like this, Daron Malakian writes some absolutely banger riffs and it’s awesome. Plus they also inspired me to write some heavy riffs of my own
same here Daron’s my biggest inspiration guitar wise :)
Totally agree
WAKE UP
XFVXHCCHNNKGCFGVVCYJV
MAKE UP
Drop C in my mind is the "soad tuning"
They're definitely in my top five bands of all-time
I think my favorite thing about drop C is how many different genres use it, I think that's pretty cool
Drop C is the GOATed tuning fr. It's so versatile too. Can do heavy chugga chugga while still being able to do most of the stuff standard tuning is able to do.
Have you ever seen the video where Nik tunes as low as human ear can possibly pick up? That’s the greatest tuning ever.
My favorite tuning!
I agree. I think it brings out the potential of the 6 string electric guitar.
Elite somehow earned Deftones a Grammy, so glad to see it here!
@Elijah Boyd Always has been always will be. Let’s get you to bed gramps
@@AsdAsd-rd6ce lol
Somehow??
Seeing him play isolation have me much joy
Agreed
Was happy to see Alter Bridge here. They were my uncle's favorite band tied with Whitechapel. Miss him a lot. AB, and WC became my comfort music.
Side note: I want a Brutalist Breakdowns series.
Picturing Alter Bridge and Whitechapel next to each other is hilarious and I love it. Love both bands too. Sorry for you loss.
Yea I consider *_Alter Bridge_* as one of the best modern *Alternative Metal* band today, together with his other band *Tremonti* (he is the same singer and lead guitarist in both bands, which is really cool) They are definitely at the Top Ranking 🤟🤘
I'm the only one in my family who likes Alter Bridge, but I have a couple friends who do as well. I'm glad Isolation was on here but if he was going the heavy route, Crows On A Wire was the correct choice 😂
@@xAlexTobiasxB Creed had some absolute bangers too idgaf what anyone says
YES! FINALLY,SUCH A LEGENDARY RUBRIC IS BACK !!
I hope that we'll see another episodes with other tunings as well as the come back of your "sickest solos" series
I just went on such a deep alterdridge rabbithole thanks to this video.
They werent ahead of their time by any means, but still holds their weight, even against todays music. Like damn man. So fucking good.
And still consistently dropping bangers every 3 years. Not to mention Tremonti’s solo albums
Tremonti is a 🐐 dude barely ever fucks up
Drop C is just perfect for everything. Heavy, pretty, jazzy, funky it’s perfect for it all. Drop B has really been pulling me in lately though. Something about hitting that open chord in drop b is so damn nice 👍
My favourite tuning is open g :D but that's mostly for acoustic or B F# B D f# B
I've only seen one jazz musician make use of a drop tuning (once), but I don't listen to much jazz tbh.
Huge shout-out for Misery Signals, Controller is my favorite melodic metalcore album of all times, I have listened to it hundreds of times! It is both super heavy and super melodic at the same time, can't recommend it enough.
That album helped me through a tough time in my life! Front to back it's fantastic.
I was so happy hearing A Certain Death's riff. Misery Signals is so underrated as a metal act. Very talented group of people, excellent live too.
Not only are the riffs sick, but that OTTO Audio 1111 absolutely does the damn thing right. Such a good VST and honestly I don't see anyone not being able to get a great tone out of it.
Chimaira such an underrated group... Need more content with them 🤤
Happy to see Chimaira being repped in here. Needle is such a brutal song!
same, I saw the thumbnail and Immediately recognized the album art.
Anything off The Impossibility of reason is way heavier though. Should have picked one of those
@@siktz Respectfully disagree. I don't think they've released a track both lyrically and musically heavier than The Flame.
The riff out of dehumanizing process has got to be my favourite
the Riff that I hear is chop suey
Thank you so much for including Darkest Hour. I feel like they are not mentioned enough. Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us were huge for me growing up.
I've Heard both albums live in its entirety lol. What better to ask for
That self titled album is an absolute masterpiece, they were touring that album when periphery was doing the 2nd release, it’s nice to see someone who appreciates the underdogs in metalcore
"Old" DH have a special place in my heart.
Just out here to remind y’all how criminally under appreciated Misery Signals is.
To me they were the best in the genre.
Hell yeah. Seen them 3 times over the years, in 2008 and 2013 and then in 2014 on the malice x tour with the og lineup (we got lucky and got to see a mini 7 angels 7 plagues reunion for a couple tracks too) they deserve every bit of praise they get and a lot that they don't as well. Bands like counterparts, defeater, Napoleon etc. probably wouldn't sound the same without mis sigs paving the way
Hell yes. Somehow my most scene band. They were just always on others tours I wanted to see. No complaints though. It must be around 13 or 14 times at this point. Controller is a flawless 10/10 in my mind.
I think Nik should cover The Year Summer Ended In June tbh
Aww yes the signal the fucking real deal yez zir
bury tomorrow absolutely needs more recognition they are easily one of the best melodic metalcore bands out there
Thank you for this video. I’ve picked up the guitar again after 10+ years of not playing and I’ve been looking for new music to listen to. This video was perfect! Keep rockin 🤟
These kinda riffs are why I love that some bands are releasing their albums also as instrumentals. So good to just enjoy excellent riffage!
Thanks for using Blood Incantation riffs from Starspawn! I never would have known there is such a gem of a band in existance - old school production style (reminds me sometimes of Pestilence - Spheres) and great mix of riffage, groove, blasting and atmosphere - whole album is 10/10 - highly recommended!
I like how you managed to transition from one song to the other seamlessly. Songs with different tempos and time signatures. The riffs aren't hard, the hard part is the editing and planning the video and it's super impressive how coherent this is. It would've been so much easier for you to add little gaps in between riffs but you didn't.
Just saying Chimaira is hands down one of the most underrated heavy bands ever. Super bummed I'll be missing their reunion show next week.
Yeah, bought ST album as kid on a whim, just from the vibes coming off of it. 30 bucks was a lot for a gamble at that age. Paid off.
Bloodlust makes my taint tingle.
Adestria's 'Chapters' is soooo underrated. Glad to see them in the video!
I don't know if underrated or just relatively unknown.
big big facts. Chapters is phenomenal
unreal album, criminally underrated and shockingly unknown
Oh hell yes, anything from Chimaira’s Resurrection album fucks so hard! Needle is one of me fav.
Absolutely astonished that somebody used Abstract Art for once, absolutely underrated song
Never thought I'd see the day the heaviest riff series returns! So hyped on this.
Thank you for including For Today! They have so many good riffs and songs, just often overlooked nowadays
Dude they have some absolute slappers! Elijah from Potraits still hits hard today.
The Pastor at my church told me to listen to them at one of our church services. Best thing he has ever told me to do lol. I'm so thankful that Christian Metalcore is an actual thing.
I love Drop C so much that when I went to 7 string (about 15 years ago) I tuned GCGCFAD so I wouldn't lose it.
Happy to see you gave Phinehas some love. Not many people know who they are. Killer list bro. 🔥🔥
well, you just gave me a list of new bands to listen to. there were some i've never heard of, some i've heard of but never listened to, and some i knew but hadn't gotten to that particular album. thanks. always on the lookout for new stuff.
What a fucking awesome compilation! Nik, thank you so much for a whole new playlist full of great bands!
I fully agree that drop C/d standard is the best tuning. its heavy enough to be distinct from drop d/e standard, but not so low that many amps and pedals struggle with the frequency. Also it gives the most satisfying resonance and chugs with good string tension.
God damn, not just great playing... but the mix sounds so good! Nice work!
yesss the best videos are back! hope you continue with part 3 and other tunings
Sick list as always love these heaviest riffs learned a lot of the heaviest riff from this lol
Thank you for including The Agonist in this, they're such an underrated band that a lot of people don't know about.
4:27 One of my favourites. The Agonist is underrated af.
The tone is so on spot! Loved it!
Gaaaa daaamn 4:27 im ashamed to say that this is my first time hearing The Agonist and immediately went on spotify to hear everything they have to offer and was definitely not disappointed!! Especially having Panophobia on repeat just because that riff and ending that song with that same riff.. *chefs kiss*🤯
Thanks for helping me find them!!!
Honestly, this is the best guitar tone you have had yet. Love it.
Excellent playing 🤘
out of all the riffs that you pulled out there, the caliban riff was such a gem and it took me right back! drop c will always be the one!
This must have taken forever man! Getting the drums right and learning all these riffs! Thank you for your service sir
nik makes me realize how much more metal i need to listen to every single time
The Gods Must Be Crazy caught me off guard being on this list. Such a killer riff!
I want to express my gratitude to this type of content because I often find new music for myself to study in it
I'm so new to guitar that I'm still learning Good Riddance and Zombie on acoustic. I can't even imagine making those handshapes or switching that fast, but props to Nik!
Thank you Nik. Now I can feed my guitar more riffs tonight...
Thanks for riffing on my heavy fella II II II II. To those watching, I say one thing: demo it in your room... It will hit you like nothing you've ever heard. 😎👍

Awesome work man!! Love the channel. Could you make a Spotify play list with these songs? I love drop c and would love to explore more
Nice list Nic! 🤘
I am always surprised by the versatility of Drop C. Seeing Alter Bridge and Blood Incantation using the same tuning as all my MySpace era favorites is wild.
Blood Incantation is definitely the most unexpected drop c band I think.
That's like saying e tuning is wild because Eric Clapton and Judas priest use it. Well...
Misery Signals finally get the love that they deserve
So stoked you did another drop C video. I'll admit it's one of my favorite tunings
i love these series cause i have a ton of metal in my playlist (im talking over 6k songs and most of them are metal). but there are still so many bands that i havent heard about, so this is kind of a song suggestion thing and i love it
u know its gonna be a great day, when nik drop a video !!
Love the Alter Bridge pick! :)
Thanks for confirming Drop C is the GOAT tuning for metal riffs. So many bangers on here! Amazing playing as always Nik
Thank god you finally did this, give me ideas of songs to learn lol
Time for my dose of Vitamin C.
Seeing Converge on this list makes me happy! What a riff!
My favorite thing about these videos is that you help me discover new bands 💪
Nik's content just keeps getting better!
Isolation has to be up there for my favourite songs of all time, so good
Love the insane riffs Periphery manage to create :)
Great vid!
That riff (and the entire song) is Jake ripping off Mark lol
@@MaestroKatProductions Sounds like one heck of a successful formula!
I’m always going back to these so I thought they threw an old one in my feed. Good stuff homie🤘
You're a musical talented badass and this was an awesome video! This should be a head bang challenge in of itself
Bullet for my valentine and As I lay dying always have some of the best sounding riffs! It’s really hard to top them😌 Kill switch comes close though.
Phineas getting some love! They are so underrated. They should be at the top of the genre
Honestly these videos are just great for discovering new music, never had listened to Lamb of God before and here I am a sucker for them
Legendary video format finally returned! What a lovely day
For love of all that is holy and just in this world, please continue to spotlight Darkest Hour more and more. Been my favorite band since 2002 and people just don’t realize how incredible they are.
Deliver Us is one of my all time favorite albums, and even their new stuff like the self titled go hard
@@andre8273 same. They are underground trendsetters. Have been for years. Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us and Human Romance are absolute bangers with endless riffs. Even tho Hidden Hands is what brought me to them all those years ago…
Ou dude you just unlocked a good memory
Love darkest hour, been listening to them for 20 years now!!
Undoing ruin is landmark album for the genre
Deliver us and human romance are fantastic too
Saw them in '07 misery signals opened. Awesome show, their iconic lineup when Ryan Parrish was on drums and kris norris on lead guitar!
The lineup has changed but as long as John Henry is on vox and mike schliebaum is writing riffs, its gonna sound like darkest hour
Man seeing The Agonist on here made me happy. Out of nowhere that song became my favorite and I can't stop listening to it
Did not expect to find Alter Bridge here, but you are completely right, the riff is awesome!
Tremonti really is a riff and solo monster!
i think Nik really likes Converge - Concubine, this is the 2nd or 3rd time he's used it. can't blame him because it's an incredible song haha
1111 is actually astounding. My favorite VST.
this list is everything i was hoping for :)
Nice to see Adestria getting some love. Underrated band. Saw them live in ‘12. Great live.
Any Godsmack riff in Drop C is always awesome (Songs like: I Stand Alone, Awake, Whatever, Straight Out of Line, Re-Align, Speak, Greed, Mistakes, ETC.)
The I stand Alone riff never gets old to me honestly lol
I know I’m pretty late, but Helmet should have been in the list. THEY’RE THE KINGS OF DROP C
This is dope. Love the old Killswitch. Also love your eyes during the Misery Signals riff though. Hoping for an Adamantium one in there somewhere.
Fr Adamantium is such an underrated band. Through The Depths of Depression is probably my favourite early OC metalcore album
Starting off with one of the best riffs of all time I see 🤘
So glad he put Elite by Deftones, that song goes so HARD.
Could have also included Korea thats also heavy
And the better song
Man I just listened to Korea again for the first time in probably 5 years, last week and was so glad I rediscovered it. What a heavy fuckin banger of a Deftones song
Yes! Some Chimaira love. Great luck with Needle. The whole album of Resurrection could arguably be in this video.
Rob and Matt are riff monsters.
Many era-defining riffs. Very proud to have known these albums way back then.
This is my new favorite video. Crushing it Nik.
For Today wasn’t forgotten!
GOATED
You’re one of the reasons i picked up the guitar man. Slipknot is #1 but you take the 2nd spot. Thanks for all your work for us man
So you're waiting for Drop B video too right?
@@EvilGrishka i’ve seen his Drop B vids lol all i play is that.
and when the world needed him most, he came back
please let's go over all the tunings again
All these riffs go hard! We need a playlist!
Props for including the chimaira riff bro
And the bury tomorrow one too!
Tremonti is a beast
Let’s goooo! This is my favourite series that Nik does, so glad to see its return!
I just discovered Drop C (and also this channel, lol), it‘s amazing! I‘ll try some of those now, haha
Damn man, I forgot how good Chimaira were.
very underrated band
