- In this video I show you how to construct your own solids lifting over flow for an aquaponics system or pond. It is used to drain the solids from the bottom of the tank, and is very useful.
Where you can buy the same tank I have.
I got it on craigslist but it is not always the option, this is the website where you can buy them new.

Can you please explain what you did with the hole at the bottom of the tank? Are you using it only as a drain port for the entire tank?
Yes the hole at the bottom of the tank where I have a bulkhead fitting and a ball valve is just for draining the tank if needed.
What is the size of the PVC pipe for your overflow? I'm planning to use 1 1/2 because the 2" ball valve faucet things are so expensive.
I used 2" pvc for my overflow. But ya 2" ball valves are expensive. Didn't use one for my set up though.
Dont know if it is cheaper but you could put two 1 1/2" overflows going into a 2" or 3" on the outside.
That way you could still use 1 1/2" ball valves.
whats your return rate?
The pump I used is second hand and the label is faded so don't know the flow rate.
can you please say what is the fish tank capacity u used?
the gray tank is 300 gallons
hi if my fish tank(1ft) is shorter than my mechanical filter(3ft) is there a workaround for this
How to set it up also comes down to how the other parts of the system are set up. But here are some different options.
If you haven't hooked everything up yet you can raise the fish tank higher to allow the filter to be lower.
If the rest of the system allows you can dig the filter into the ground until it is at the level you need.
You can hook it up how it is now just the filter will have an area with no water in it, since you will have to hook up the plumbing so the fish tank doesn't overflow.
Another option if you have a sump tank is to have the water pumped to the filter first then overflow into the fish tank and grow beds (depends on layout of the rest of the system). The water in the fish tank will then overflow directly back to the sump tank.
You can also split the water from the pump, if you have a sump tank. So have water go from the pump to the filter and water from the pump to the fish tank. So the pump will be split with valves. From the filter you go to your grow beds. And from the fish tank you go directly back to the sump.
Hope that helps.
@@vonponics wow man appreciate the help god bless thanks the last option might do it for now I guess
Glad I can help. Hope it works out.
