      @Joe HoltonIt's a shame that the Republican-led Congress cut funding for embassy defense forces in the year prior to the attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi. Imagine how much more effectively the CIA could have defended the place if it had been properly equipped and funded.

    ** edit **
    In the military every seaman recruit is required to memorize the chain of command from you to the president of the United States, and at anytime provide that if asked. Day 1 we are taught if the next link in the chain isn’t responding to you, we are duty bound to then report it to the next link in the chain, the only thing is you also inform the weak link at the same time, that you took this up the chain, so we know were the problem was in the chain of command. That’s our duty, and yes sometimes it’s ruff, I’m living proof, happened to me, but in the end I prevailed. “Honor, Courage, Commitment”

    It’s one thing to dismiss an officer for disobeying the chain of command. It’s another thing for the government official to go to the officer’s worksite and tell the subordinates via intercom that the officer who was dismissed was “naive or stupid”. Nobody needs or cares to hear their opinions. As far as I’m concerned, the captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt was asking for help because he had sailors who were sick and couldn’t do their job. He should’ve been given the equivalent of a “captain’s mass” to where he would’ve been given a sentence in a private, responsible, and respectful way; not publicly humiliated.

      Two facts to point out:
      1) January 17, 2020 USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego for a scheduled Indo-Pacific deployment.
      2) March 5, The Theodore Roosevelt anchored off the coast of Tien Sa Port in Da Nang, Vietnam, for a four-day port visit.
      He wasn't relieved of his command because he "begged" for help. He was relieved of his command because (1) he went oustide the chain of command, and (2) allowed Sailors to go on shore leave in areas that had confirmed cases of COVID-19 on March 5th - 8th in Vietnam. 3) He compromised this country, the ship, the crew and our allies by allowing shore leave. He made a HUGE MISTAKE by doing so and showed NO LEADERSHIP when he made that decision. He put EVERYONE on board at RISK.
      How else did the virus get on board, if the ship deployed in mid Jan? Or maybe this virus has been circulating in the U.S way before Jan 17th when this ship deployed?

Why did this battleship captain send soldiers to the city of Da Nang? If you look at pictures of soldiers not wearing masks in contact with guests in Da Nang, during this dangerous time. A mistake so big and now many sailors have been infected with China. The ship is now inactive because the general cleaning is located on Guam Island, about 3,000 sailors have to be isolated in the island hotel. The two major mistakes of the captain and he are not worthy in this position.

    Crozier made the right decision; because, who is sick, on board ship, is as important as how many are sick. The Captain of the ship, Crozier, has tested positive for the corona virus. Nobody can command a ship with 6,000 crewmen while they are sneezing, coughing, aching, & hallucinating from a fever. Moreover, there was a fleet command center aboard & the captain sat with them daily. If they are all sick, they can't operate & fight a battle group rationally or effectively. Here's a salient fact: not every officer can guide a ship in & out of port, and into a docking space & out. If the captain is so sick that he can't see or think straight, how's he supposed to keep port & starboard, reverse & forward straight in his head? Which ship handler takes his place? A sick captain is a dangerous captain.
    I've been on board a US Navy ship when it hit the pier. It's not a pretty sight. As a navy navigational specialist, I know that Navy ships have run aground. That's bad too. Let's give one more example. If the pilots on board the carrier get the virus, who's supposed to fly the airplanes? This ship was days away from doubling its sick call & maybe a week away from having 500 to 600 specialists down. That attrition rate would have made the Teddy Roosevelt a sure fire disaster waiting to happen.
    For the novice, American aircraft carriers sail in flotillas. Maneuvering of all ships is a constant challenge. Collision at sea can be horrific. Crozier knew all that & more. In fact, in his defense, I'd like to see a list of who was sick. Imagine if the sailors & officers who tend the nuclear power plant were sick. Can you imagine sending a ship's cook to the engine room to trouble shoot the turbines? I'm pretty sure that unsolvable problems were why Captain Crozier did what he did. I'd salute him & I'd sail under his command any day.

      @JohnGalt009 Speaking of knee-jerk reactions. Hey numbnuts, he is LEGALLY BOUND to be tow the party line. Obviously, you never served in the military or you would have heard of this thing called the UCMJ. It is ILLEGAL for anyone to break the chain of command, to violate security, or to disparage or question the judgment of a superior. Now whether you agree with that or not is a separate issue, but you are more than welcome to lecture your elected officials about how great it would be if we democratized the military and allowed people in uniform to criticize one another and speak against command authority. Good luck with that, nincompoop.

    • @bugman9787
      @bugman9787 4 года назад +4

      Julian Cate you are a bit wrong there. If your superior is ordering you to something illegal you do not have to follow his order and should report him or her. When I was in the Air Force, I had a warrant officer who was acting commander of our unit tell me to sign paper work to certify that a warhead on a Titan II was operational when it was not. I told him if wanted it on alert status he could put his name on it, but mine would not be on that paperwork. Guess what happened? That Missile was not put on alert status!
