Local natives and the dodos have just such great drumming and guitar and vocals. Such good bands. I could listen to them both forever. I actually plan on it.
@watches777 Haha that cracked me up. For the opening seven seconds I thought this wasn't actual Local Natives video but something from the early 80's on top of their audio :)
I don't know if any of you caught then just this feb. again on Morning Becomes Eclectic, but they performed this song with a quartet and oh my..............it was breathe-taking to say the least. Heck it out on kcrw.com under the archives, i HIGHLY recommend seeing their full set. wow.
can we collectively come up with a name for this type of music? if you say indie i will grizzly bear, animal collective, dirty projectors, broken social scene, war on drugs, rapture, clap your hands and say yeah right in your morning benders, phoenix ass!
i dont really wanna wax and wane all philosophical about the naming of all things, so i will keep this short. if "rock and roll" is sufficient, and/or genre's just pidgeonhole music, why even call it music? well i will tell you: it is to communicate with people. just for the same reason you can argue that any particular band is prog rock or kraut rock, it doesnt really matter. you either know what im talking about or you don't. "rock and roll", "indie", "music"... all fall short.
Arpeggiated clean guitar riff? Check. Repetitive vaguely "tribal" drums? Check High-pitched male vocals with "Oohs" and "Ahhs" in the breakdowns? Check. "Epic-crescendo at the end of the tune and then it stops"? Check. Beard/mustache? Check, check check, and...check. Why is this shit all so familiar? Oh wait, someones already done it before...(and better)
Still a beautiful tune after all these years. wow
One of the best songs of the decade.
I love their harmonies. The "Oooo-ohhhh" sounds angelic.
Over 10 years since this performance. Love this group and I hope they're all doing well. Still in search of the right Goya guitsr
Itunes recommended this group to me, it's about time it gives me a good band. Love these guys now.

I adore this song--hard to believe it's live-- & so happy that John Oates made his comeback!

@nergish Since the record had its release in 2009 in Holland, I think it's fair to call it one of the best songs of the decade.

I know! reminded me of KQED in the 90s.
@aldentre I don't know if they're backing vocals! Each singer sings lead in different songs!

Killer job of recreating the sound live, a lot of new band's cant do that or get really off tone.
damm they're good :)
It's cald a Goya Rangemaster they were made in the 60s in Italy
@06livefast Uh...You must be talking about this version, because the album has a lot of compression on the drums.
geniuses. such a beautiful song, thank god the drummer doesn't trigger or over - compress his kit:)
@mrwangchang I believe it is a Gibson
These guys' backing vocals are better than most bands' lead vocals.
i must find out whats on taylors pedalboard!!!!
can we collectively come up with a name for this type of music? if you say indie i will grizzly bear, animal collective, dirty projectors, broken social scene, war on drugs, rapture, clap your hands and say yeah right in your morning benders, phoenix ass!
John Oates is still doing it
@MuppetsFan1 I like "our swords"

@06livefast Why thank you.
I has a mustache just because he would be to handsome without it.
Drummer is phat.
How do they make it look so fucking easy?
