  • Carry On is the first single off our debut album.
I started writing this song a few years back after the sudden loss of my father. I’d followed in his footsteps with a career at sea and he’s also the reason I became a pilot so I was quite lost in the months after.
I’d have dreams where he was still alive and Carry On was born out of that first few seconds after waking up, the sinking realisation that he was gone and I’d just have to get used to it.
The track features contributions by Steve Wickham (The Waterboys) on mandolin and strings and John Doherty (Little Hours) on backing vocals.
Charlie James Carry On - Lyric Video
Staring at the shotgun, lost in thought again
Flickin through the pictures of the people I have been
And I don’t know but I’ve been told
That life gets easier as you get old
The raging fire dies as your worries grow
You can’t quite feel the warmth but you remember the glow
All these words they bring no peace
There’s a hole in your heart and through it the sorrow leaks
    I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
Yes I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
Life is easy when it’s written on an envelope
The tougher it gets the harder you must cling to hope
When Falling from the sky I feel alive
It’s not the destination, it’s the ride
    I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
Yes I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
    I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
Yes I must carry, carry on
Cause when I wake up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
When I make up in the morning, wipe my eyes you’ll still be gone
