The reason Aldi's mustard isn't as yellow is that they have a company-wide policy that Aldi brand ingredients never use artificial color.
Another reason to love Aldi
turmeric isn't artificial color though and is listed in the Aldi's mustard ingredients, which are nearly the same ingredients as French's. It's really just about quantity and quality in this case.
Most mustard is dyed yellow with turmeric which is a natural ingredient. Nothing unnatural about using turmeric.
there is no artificial colors in mustard. theirs is just.....different
@@elena.elena6 my husband and my kids hate me when I do this with things like cereal but I always say ‘ it’s not $2 different or whatever the savings is ‘ lmao. I make him drink Aldi Cola a lot lol
I think the bread really propelled Dollar Tree forward. That bothers me though, because Aldi sells so many different kinds of bread and they just happened to pick the worst one.
I agree. Aldi has tons of affordable, artisan breads, and they picked what is supposed to be the Aldi version of Wonderbread, which also wouldn't hold up well to a burger patty.
I was thinking the same thing! They chose the bottom bread from Aldi vs the best bread from DT.
Right? They got the cheapest possible white bread from Aldi and probably the best option from Dollar Tree. This video just feels like Aldi slander lol
I love the Brioche hotdog and hamburger buns at Aldi!
Nothing at the dollar tree is less than a dollar and that Aldi bread is like 95 cents 🤣
Since when is ALDI the expensive option?
Bc they didn't shop the deals, I def save at Aldi. But you're gonna have a hard time beating literally The Dollar store. I'll still take Aldi overall.
That probably happened when America decided that Trader Joe's is an artisanally wholesome manufacturer/brand and not just an Aldi inhouse label
Uh, since 2020?
As a Dutch person: I know Aldi as one of the budget supermarkets 😅
You sir have just discovered, what we call the business, a joke.
Aldi has better breads than the one that was chosen.
Your moms johnson
ALDI brioche hamburger buns are the GOAT!
you are gaslighting yourself
@@lateknightucd TOP TIER AT THAT!
REAL. their white bread is hands down the worst choice for this
Aldi’s Artisanal bread would have been a better comparative
I don't think that they were picking based on what kinda bread that they find.
Yeah Aldi's definitely has better bread lol
@@joycelittlejohn4985
From the looks of it, they were only going for the cheapest bread at Aldi.
The best kinda bread is Amroso rolls.
"What's German for mustard?"
the tiny Shane Madej that lives in the back of my head: SENF!
Underrated comment!
"This bread is very wet."
"Thank you, I tried my best." 🤣🤣
The fact that Josh had a moral debate about if a patty melt is a sandwich or a burger, as if a burger isn't also just a sandwich while also being the forerunner for the hot dog sandwich argument is why I love him
A burger is a sandwich, but a sandwich is not necessarily a burger.
Some people call the patty burger, I don't know why though.
But a Hot Dog is NOT a sandwich.
A hot dog is a taco!
@@MikaeruDaiTenshia hot dog can be a sandwich if you make it the way I do which is I cut the hot dog in half and plate it on bread with tomato & lettuce
@@mercedesvelasquez8781 But is it really a hotdog, or is it a sausage sandwich? :P

Those three Aldi fries left in the bowl bothered me so much
Same here..
@@cheesey012 Same
Oh me too 😂
There was also one dollar tree left, and I juat don't undertand why he wouldn't put the rest in the oil.
Josh definitely did that on purpose..
I like that Aldi has a white bread that is on par with the Sara Lee that isn’t very expensive (like $2.35 in my area) and they didn’t get it. I do feel like when Dollar Tree has a fancy version of something they should be able to match it at the other store, especially when it is still store brand and not much more.
Why they bought as much name brand stuff as they did at Dollar Tree is what drove the price up.
That's because Aldi's bread is made at the same bakery as Sara Lee
Everything Josh described about shopping at Aldi is just... every grocery store here in Germany. No bags, deposit on the carts, people sitting at the register.
True for most European supermarkets I think!
@@laulau194 certainly in every other European country I have visited, yes.
Usually the bags are at the checkout and you pay like 20 cents for them if you need it.
Was the same everywhere except colruyt when I was in beljum
That's probably because Aldi's is a German grocery store that was able to come to America for the market same with trader Joe's actually@@TheBd0g
Is it just me or was Josh like super chilled and more hinged as opposed to normally being unhinged. Lol. Loved it tho. And I do have family
I love that him inhaling "margerine fumes" with his mouth still counts as hinged
@I.AIDEN.C lol that's a norm where I come from 😎😉
Mood stabilizers POPPIN OFF
Could have been a Later in the Day video. I know Smosh adopted the Mythical block shoots schedule and have talked about how some videos are clearly from the morning or the late afternoon.
I always appreciate when Josh is more hinged than unhinged.
loving this comment section and the premise of comparing these two stores, it's hard as someone who grew up poor to hear people hate on aldi because it was so incredible for very straightforward ingredients, good quantities, and great prices. plus the employees getting to sit and commitment to no bags to reduce waste! also comments are right, they picked the WORST aldi bread
Wow, Aldi being the expensive is wild to me since DISCOUNT is part of the name 🤣🤣 and here in Denmark it was also the absolutely cheapest of the cheap for groceries
It's still one of the cheapest here. Dollar Tree is NOT a grocery store, despite what Josh is trying to say. Literally no fruits or vegetables.
@@victreebel170They do, just not fresh.
But they do *have* groceries, and frozen fruits & veggies, and in some rural areas it’s the only option without driving 20+ minutes.
Aldis beef is getting very expensive here. Its is equal to, or more expensive than other stores. Everything else is cheaper though.
Only reason Dollar tree came out cheaper was the really cheap patties they bought. Everything else was much more expensive per unit volume/weight. And I definitely prefer a beef patty compared to a mixed vegetable/beef patty.
we have Aldi in Poland and you do not "pay" for the carts, you just put a coin in to make sure you wont leave it somewhere away from where u got it from XD it s a common practice.
It's the same in the states in any Aldi's I've been in.. You get your quarter back by walking the cart back lol
Same in the States…dude doesn’t do his own shopping! LOL

As someone who used to work in retail, I wanna say THANK YOU for mentioning that cashiers should be allowed to sit down! I literally had to quit my job because my ankles were excruciatingly sore (while I am in the process of losing weight, I still am overweight) yet I still wasn’t allowed to sit at all (unless I had a doctor’s note which I couldn’t even get because he was an old fart who thought it would be “healthy for me”).
Also, the fact that everyone else was quitting the job too, so I had to work MORE (while STILL not being allowed to sit)… but I digress.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this, I spent a week as a receptionist in a hotel and I couldn't sit and by the end of the day my legs were burning so a quit, I can't imagine how hard it must have been.
@@bluester7177 Yeah, I’m just glad I’m no longer working at the place (it was one of 3 gift shops in a theme park lodge). I will say it was fun at first, but then everyone started quitting and we had to close one of the gift shops that I actually enjoyed working in.
I’m sorry you had to go through that as well, but at least it’s kinda comforting knowing you’re not alone😅
I infrequently shop at ALDI in Germany, and I can safely confirm I don't recognize any of the products presented here.
Also, mustard in German is SENF ;)
It was so funny how he went: Aldi is so weird. And then proceeded to name normal German supermarket things XD cashiers sitting down, coin carts...
@@nastjuschechkaweird to America in general except for those of us who shopped there before getting a driver's license
IIRC Trader Joe's actually licenses the Aldi name as a brand here in the US; it's not at all the same as a german Aldi. But there are a lot of diehards over here that love the store. Trader Joe's is a more premium US grocer and some of the items are the same in both stores, but Aldi is much more affordable than Trader Joe's, or even mainstream grocers in the US.
I live in Ireland, but have been to Aldi in Germany once. Our Aldi is similar to Germany but has some unique Irish products
@@KevinCruz-pu2ue No, Trader Joes is owned by Aldi Nord and Aldi is owned by Aldi Sud. Both are German Aldi.
I gotta say, you gotta go with the Aldhi Artisanal White when toasting. Their standard white bread is 100% designed to memic that sweet, sweet Wonderbread cakeyness lol
You bought my engagement with "ethically opposed to crinkle cut." This man is speaking the actual truth.
"Why two patties instead of just one?"
"Yes!"
This is why Josh is my spirit animal
Claussen pickles are the gold standard. Always chilled, never heated.
🙌
Top tier pickles
This is the correct answer.
Their price could raise to $20 a jar and it would still be my #1 choice.
Best pickles hands down!
I've had that bread and it is not the typical Dollar Tree bread. You must have found a store with that landed a limited supply because the typical Dollar Tree bread is about half a loaf of the same crap bread you bought at Aldi. Also, Aldi has cheaper beef patties by the pound than those boxed ones, so if you don't think beef quality matters (which if you prefer your beef patties to not be 100% beef, you clearly don't), then you should've gotten those. It kind of feels like you might've inadvertently stacked the deck for Dollar Tree here by buying all the smaller quantity name brand options when they also carry generic mustard and ketchup that have larger quantities; you certainly didn't do well with the presentation by buying that really expensive beef that wonked out the pricing. Dollar-for-dollar, your money goes a little bit further at Aldi than it does at Dollar Tree if you're buying full equivalents.
Yeah, Aldi has some really good stuff if you look for it. Usually have a rotation of gourmet mustards, ciabatta buns or other sourdough loaves, better cheeses, Fresh produce (no lettuce, tomato, onion used here). You could easily blow a Dollar Tree meal out of the water if you aren't hamstringing your ingredients by what's available in Dollar Tree.
I agree with both of you guys and the ingredients from aldi bothered me because they got the bottom tier stuff from aldi and the highest from dollar tree
I agree as well. We shop at Aldi, about 75% of our groceries come from there. They have a big variety of cheeses, and especially breads. And sometimes some really good mustards from Germany. They usually also have many different kinds of pickles.
I agree that the ketchup is sweet, he used the organic one from Aldi. Not sure how another organic ketchup will compare. It does use real sugar, and not high fructose corn syrup.
I feel that for something like this they should just be buying the cheapest of each product or at least try and match the products as closely as possible (they didn't use any fresh produce because Dollar Tree doesn't sell it, but then used fancy bread from Dollar Tree and cheap bread from Aldi).
Aldi's spokeperson in the comments yall
Aldi is honestly a budget essential for us! With grocery costs now, the same ingredients from Walmart would be $60-$100 depending on what we need. Get the bulk at Aldi then a regular grocery for a couple items Aldi doesn’t stock.
I go grocery shopping with my mum as a little hangout time, sometimes we go to aldi (she usually only goes if i go with her)
I end up squatting next to the register and speed packing everything for her and the checkout person is always impressed and/or laughing at me which is a good time
Cooking cheap frozen beef patties that rare is kind of wild. I love a good medium - med/rare burger thats been freshly ground, but I'm amazed they served that rare a frozen processed patty.
To be fair, based on the cooking it from frozen method, I don't know if they were intending that 😅
I’m assuming that was why he made that face when she mentioned it and he “corrected” her that it was “medium.” But when he was saying it was springy I was like, cuz it ain’t cooked my guy 😂
Yes Aldi isn’t expensive, but it was more expensive than dollar tree so it’s the “expensive” one for this test.
I think they wanted to do two of them that are close to each other to make the judging harder. It’s not a challenge if one of them blows the other one out of the water.
Josh was so hinged this episode, the ending was definitely “Do you have family? I don’t” and that’s why it cut so quick lmao
Aldi is also employee owned. You will always get better prices and better service at Aldi's. I love them for that.
Aldi is not employee owned. It's family owned.
@@godminnette2 you're right. I should have clarified,it's not fully employee owned. They all get a share of the profits end of year. Employees just call it employee owned. They take very good care of their employees. Good pay starting out,and automatically eligible for profit-sharing
It's like Save A Lot
@@jeffreycumpton9112 Walmart used to be like that. Family owned, and all the employees had shares.
Not always better. At least in my part of the US. Aldi beef is as expensive as Walmart, or more expensive. Not quite Publix expensive, but places like Food Giant and Fresh Value are cheaper. Everything else at Aldi is cheaper though.
You should have made a third burger with the best ingredients from both to see if it would make a better burger
Thank you! Aldi has a lot better option. Also the Aldi mustard is like 3 times bigger, the taste can’t be that much better
I LOVED this one. These are literally the 2 stores I use the most, because the dollar store is closest but I like Aldi better. My argument would be that you’re getting a lot more product on the Aldi side… like yea the Dollar Tree bread is thicker, but there’s way more slices on the Aldi loaf and come on if you wanted thick burger bread, get a bun! Also, hot take, not super fan of the pickles from either place. Aldi’s are better but pretty much any other grocery store here has better pickles… and way higher prices 😅
I was so offended for Aldi. The value! And they got theee worst bread they have. I demand a rematch. For actually feeding a family you cannot beat Aldi in the US.
$0.25 per shopping cart, I remember asking my mom for a quarter to unlock a cart. I love Aldi just because of nostalgia.
Ive never been to a grocery store in italy that doesnt take a coin for the cart, IF they have carts you can use, unless im on a US base the store on base doesnt have carts that take a quarter to use lol
@@Dominicthedonkey this is the only store I've ever seen in the US that uses the coin carts my whole life.

I’m German and around here you’ll find nothing cheaper than Aldi. Well except maybe the guy selling stuff from his trunk in the Aldi parking lot but I digress

Penny and Netto are (in my limited experience) much cheaper than Aldi
"I love how we've just given me a format to just be utterly crazy"
Josh that's what this channel is, plus infecting other people...
A lot of chefs say dont do this, I say do this.
This concludes cooking tips with Josh.
As a person who has to shop at Aldi and dollar tree for budget reasons, Aldi sells in larger sizes than dollar tree. Dollar tree sells name brand condiments for example but only in tiny sizes which don’t last very long. Aldi has normal sizes which last longer and while maybe not as good as name brand are still really good. Dollar tree does sell better bread but only gets delivery twice a week and you must be there on Tuesday or Thursday to get a decent selection. It’s also normally being sold at or with a day or two of expiration in order to sell the name brand bread at cheap prices. It’s basically what name brand store didn’t sell in time. I go to dollar tree for bread and snacks and Aldi for almost everything else.
As a follow up Aldi charges 25 cents for taking a cart, but you get it back when you return it. It’s just a way of getting you to secure the carts. It’s also better value per item than the tiny sizes dollar tree sells. If your really limited in funds for the month dollar tree is good but you will buy more often and spend a lil more.
Josh- were making burgers
Also Josh - patty melts are sandwiches
Cashiers in the US don't get to sit down?
Aldi is the only grocery store I know of in the US where the cashiers are allowed to sit.
That was a huge shock for me when I first visited the US. It seems like such a small allowance, acknowledging that your cashiers are human beings who need to be comfortable in order to do their job well.
@@spencerl122 That's honestly messed up
Nope, unfortunately, some ppl (read boomers) will freak the hell out if they see it. No joke, they will make a scene in a store over it.
do they still have baggers in usa like 3rd world?
I assure you, cashiers not being allowed to sit down is an American thing. In other countries we have unions.
In America we do too, and in Aldis they have chairs for the cashiers. I think it’s just the company’s decision
Here if you even mention unions they'll send anti-union people or fire you.
Believe it or not, some grocery stores in America are unionized. Some.
In the US it's a corporate decision as letting their cashiers sit while doing their job might give some of them the impression that somebody at the corporate level might actually care about them as people instead of liabilities.
@@FJA---that's crazy, I'm in Latin American and it's always wild how I have better labour laws than you guys.
Having had a job where I had to go in the back room of many, many different dollar stores - DO NOT BUY FOOD FROM DOLLAR STORES. They do not practice any safe food storage practices and almost every single one had either signs of rodent or actually visible rodents. You are gambling with your health and possibly life!
Exactly!
Last Week Tonight taught me this, and you have confirmed it.
The trick to using singles on burgers is folding the corners in to make it a diamond shape. Then you wait until your burger is 99.9% cooked, add the cheese and keep the pan on the burner, but put a lid on it and turn the burner off. The only time I've had it melt too much was when I was pulled away and couldn't get to them when I would've normally.
Thank you so much.
Aldi is a godsend with how affordable its produce is. Genuinely half the price of other grocery stores nearby. As a college student its a literal lifesaver
The pop, lock and drop it reference 😂😂
The T-Rex arm Josh is a common presentation in people with ADHD. I also have T-Rex arms when they are not doing something lol
T-Rex arms are amazing lol
I did T-Rex arms all the time as a kid, but my mother shamed me out of it :(
But now I live on my own and can T-Rex all I want >:)
It's common among people with tendencies towards joint laxity or hyperflexibility, not just ADHD :)
I do it all the time. I notice it often when I'm drinking water, the other hand is just hovering. lol
It reminds me of how my left arm works as someone with Cerebral Palsy. I know it's not even close, but him keeping his arm close to his body and main hand is something I have to train myself to not do.
You should do Aldi vs Trader Joes. They are owned by the same company and a cheap vs expensive example.
Aldi Sud (which owns the Aldi stores in America) and Aldi Nord (which owns Trader Joe's) have been seperate companies since the sixties - the brothers who founded Aldi couldn't agree on whether they should sell cigarettes.
im from gilroy and i got jumpscared by the garlic festival talk, but just so you know the garlic festival actually doesnt exist anymore :(
:( I remember driving through and smelling garlic for like, miles
As an Aldi employee we definitely have brown bags xD you're just better off buying the reusable though and you can always get your quarter from a cashier don't need to bring your own :]

I wish you had a LIDL grocery store near you. A different german grocery chain. It's just weird, they bring in random stuff for sale from week to week. I bought a TIG welder at Lidl. And the Lidl in my city is pretty small. Just a neighborhood grocery store selling cheap TIG welders for a limited time.
The "Pop Lock, & Drop It" reference. LMAO!! 🤣🤣
Josh interjects with some form of his preference on something during the taste test every. single. time. and it drives me f*cking nuts.
It seems like the power of suggestion/manipulation/swaying is in effect.
It's amazing how these videos get made. And still be relatable due to the real life application. It's a production for sure. Everything is planned. But just winging it is the realism
It's so human. And I love hearing the crew in the back laughing
9:39 i love this groovy baseline and this entire episode
Don't know what y'all doing in the US but Aldi is the absolute Champ here in the UK and across the EU. Sensationally good store.
Aldi is great!! I start all of my grocery shopping trips there. If my roommate wasn’t diabetic and needed more low carb options, we’d probably only shop there. Prices are great. Stores are clean. Workers are the happiest you can expect someone at work to be.
It is in the US as well, it’s just marginally more expensive than dollar tree which is why it’s the expensive option. Totally the cheapest option in the states
the mayo could have some titanium dioxyde in it, it is used as a food whitener in many products
I enjoy almost every video MK puts out, but this was a particularly good one.
I fell in love even more when Josh mentioned Anticuchos 💕🐮
Would it be better to break down the price by price per weight? Like the bag of sugar from Aldi was like twice as big as the sugar from dollar tree. So Aldi might have cost more, but you also got more
I love Aldi, starting going to it when we moved to Portugal in 2017.... love that it gives overstock a second chance to be bought and consumed =)

Ok so aldi isn't expensive. But I'm here.
I love all the Mythical Kitchen crew, but the Just Josh episodes are my FAVORITE! ❤
Mythical Kitchen, I love your channel so much, I just had to subscribe!

Literally 2 of my favorite stores
Does Aldi in the US still let you use the old boxes instead of buying plastic bags?
They haven't done that for years in the UK, I miss it 😂
Yes lol people will empty a box thats almost empty at my ALDIs and use that orrrr they have a giant metal cage that has the boxes haha
Well in the UK if you say aldi is expensive we laugh at you as its one the least expensive always making the top 3 best budget markets but they are amazing. I always live going and playing a game of can I keep up with the cashier scanning my shopping 😂😂
They're inexpensive in the USA too, and it's my favorite go-to for all the basic stuff. A lot of Americans seem strangely intimidated by them because of the quirkyness, but I love ALDI. I keep telling people to go, and eventually they do, once they do they get hooked, haha
dude why am I watchin this at 2 in the mornin makin myself hungry.
Fun Fact : Traditional Coney Dogs from Detroit the Coney Sauce (the chili) is made with beef hearts and its amazing. When its made with ground beef its not the same.
This is unintentionally a reality check for those living in Europe (and especially the UK), regarding further deregulation and what companies/supermarkets can get away with as the lowest treshold of food (quality), assuming both ALDI and Dollar Tree are the cheapest options for people who don't have a choice.
The burger patty and the mayo are off putting, but the rest of the stuff isn't much better especially if you think about what they put in there to make it taste good (loads of salt/sugar).
Aldi with all the respect, is better quality then Dollar Tree… by miles. Might not be top tier, but in Europe they are making a killing. In the UK they are like crazy popular and it competes with shops like Tesco, Morrisons & Asda.
They frequently beat the pricier stores here in Germany in quality testing. I just rarely shop there because the one near me is unfriendly even by German customer service standards.
@@IndianaJesus84 I’m the UK the staff are ok, but tbh no one cares as long as they sell the right products at the right price for people to eat health and not make a huge dent in their budget. Obviously is not the greatest quality but for the money you spend you get the most out. Also the fact they have different themes on their shelves from different countries every other week is even better
From the way he talks about food you can tell he watched Good Eats growing up
Watching Josh live his best life!
I love that Josh is freaked out by *everything* that is verry normal to me living in the Netherlands 😂✨️ 1:12
I think much of his attitude is probably more a California thing than an American thing. Look at Link's attitude toward Aldi from an older episode where he said something to the effect of "They make you pay a quarter for a cart!". Aldi didn't make it to California until the last decade I think whereas it is has been around the midwestern US for MUCH longer. I've been going to Aldi for most of my life so what Josh is freaked out by is normal for many Americans.
I’m such an Aldi girly I KNOW they gotta win 😭
i’ve never been so tempted by youtuber merch before i’m obsessed with the salt well
Lidl and Aldi are great! I love shopping at both stores
Good mythical morning my fellow beasties!!
Not y'all calling Aldi the expensive store? It's literally the cheap option
It’s not that Aldi is an “expensive store”, it’s that In this particular video, the cheaper option is Dollar Tree at $7.35/serving (vs. Aldi’s $8.57).
I don't know why seeing Josh happy makes me so happy but it does
I made these garlic fries and I just so happen to regularly shop at Aldi. They were really good!
josh is a great chef, but there is no way anyone can make frozen crinkle cut fries palatable
German grocery store with basically only american products. Sad. Aldi is so much better in Europe, where they actually have german products
Probably in Germany it is mostly from that country. here in Portugal we get a mix of all of Europe and the US =)
the stores are just stores and have most of stuff from where the store is. like thailand used to have tesco before they sold it, they had 1 shelf of tesco branded products as imports and rest just same as other thai supermarkets. I do miss that 1 shelf of tesco branded products dearly.
also say Lidl in finland has a lot of finnish product nowadays and a bunch of german cheapo brand stuff. for a lot of stuff the finnish cheapo stuff is just cheaper and better so a lot of the german stuff has been phased out (edit: the cheap german stuff like the inhouse soda brands were their gimmick when they came to finland 20 years ago)
there's no beating a german supermarket in germany, I can agree with that.
This vid is AMAZING! Love it SO hard...like that pickle! 😂
Yo shout out my man Josh for mentioning Peruvian food
Is Jordan the only one allowed to taste test any more 🤔 interesting
Right?
I'm waiting for Rhett or Link to pop in and do the taste test Lol
