    Yep. The operator used the power a bit conservative to reduce track slippage. Hats off to his finesse in a most dificult situation.

  • @canvids1

    The operator sure knows his machine and the feel for what he is doing.
    It wouldn't take too much to do lots of damage.
    He is not going in there banging and bouncing and his rpm's are very low and controlled.
    Excellent video thanks.

      Yes sir!. You need to be very careful and take it easy working into a rough shot like this. Even big machines like this can break if the operator isn't careful with the machine. Thanks!

    I used to steam clean on surface coal mines and couldn't resist a rip through shot rock just like this on a sticker brand new,paint on the blade, plastic in the seat d11r...kicked my cat radio in high and made my way across a field of boulders to the center of the shot where they were cutting off with 3 brand new 11s's...the whole job was new..992g,777d's, d8r, 330c....it's way harder than it looks even with a machine this size...I grabbed a blade of rock and tried to get it over the holler fill but backed up way too early considerin it was 1000' to the bottom...man what an experience

      I worked in a stone Quarry for 10 years, and all the units were older. Lots of hours on a old 9G, 6644 Koehring , 988Bs, and a bunch of old 35 and 50 ton Wabcos, but we called them Wobbles because of how bad the steering and brakes made them shake. It was so hard on those machines.

    This may sound like a dumb question but I am not in construction. I just love the machines. On a machine this large how does the driver know where he is going much less what he is pushing? The cab and the driver's seat are so far back and the front of the machine is long. It seems like he would have no idea where he is going or pushing. Any info would be great on how people operate machines like this.

      lidsman2221 on older equipment its about knowing the machine. You get a sixth sense how far your blade is. almost like the front of your car while driving. You know how much room you have. Newer D11 run gps to aide in grade control. They can basically get as accurate as a inch. Its very impressive.

      Changing the undercarriage when hours are up is vital for a dozers life. Additionally engine rebuilds, blade repairs, and other good maintenance will keep her going normally keep an old tractor like this going forever.

      CAT is a certified rebuild company, all of their products are made to be either replaced with spec or to be remanufactured by CAT themselves through their shop. Tedious in prices but they are passionate in making equipment last a lifetime. Rebuild kits were made for previous years equipment to either enhance ability and performance and allow the customer to have more updated parts. Other companies cant compete with Caterpillar's ability to keep equipment and customers happy

    Are those high track dozers harder on the pins and bullgears than the straight track machines? It seems like they would be since there are fewer teeth in contact with the pins so those pins and teeth must be under a higher strain. Caterpillar has stuck with that design so I'm guessing there must be some advantage can someone tell me what it is?

    Was the poor shot due to explosives not going off or the rock formation

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 лет назад +2

      Good question. There's a number of reasons why a shot can fire poorly - rock geology, hardness, timing error, misfire, direction of shot. Shooting non-el ANFO is always more prone for issues than shooting electronic caps because of the inability to control the timing accuracy. In this particular case, the blasters pulled the material to the center instead of casting it to the open face. This greatly reduced the burden relief which affected just how well the rock would crack

    • @Flickchaser
      @Flickchaser 7 лет назад +2

      PAmining: Thanks for the post. Brings back memories. My granddad was a blaster starting in the 30's thru 60's. He started off running a "wagon Drill" (pneumatic drill) drilling holes for the blaster for a few years then was trained to handle explosives. I would watch him lay out the holes in a certain pattern, plug the holes with small saplings or limbs he had cut to keep sand and debris out until loading the hole and tamping with a wooden stick. I don't think ANFO was around then or at least I never knew him to fire any. He used high grade gelatin Dynamite with elec. caps(Dupont). Some caps were instantaneous others delay. Probably the Dozer of that day was a D-8 Cat and the quarry folks did not like large slabs as it was all headed to the rock crusher anyway. It was deemed far better to err on overkill (huge blast) and making rubble than leaving chunks which eat up time. The dozer operator here is a real pro-keeps those tracks turning and tries to take care of the machine. Some future operators can take a lesson watching him.
