The operator sure knows his machine and the feel for what he is doing. It wouldn't take too much to do lots of damage. He is not going in there banging and bouncing and his rpm's are very low and controlled. Excellent video thanks.
Yes sir!. You need to be very careful and take it easy working into a rough shot like this. Even big machines like this can break if the operator isn't careful with the machine. Thanks!
It must be an absolute pleasure to be up close and watch this awesome machine at work, and an even bigger one to operate it. Great video Justin, appreciate your efforts.
anyone who has ever done what he's doing on blasted rock knows how much this job sucks and how difficult it can be , so all you people that have something bad to say about the operator are clearly skidloader experts !!
I worked in a stone Quarry for 10 years, and all the units were older. Lots of hours on a old 9G, 6644 Koehring , 988Bs, and a bunch of old 35 and 50 ton Wabcos, but we called them Wobbles because of how bad the steering and brakes made them shake. It was so hard on those machines.
I’ve got my dozer hand who’s been out with back injury for a week now from ripping conglomerate in the pit with a D10. It is not easy and I’ve got nobody to replace him so i have been operating it since than.
@@PAmining that awful jar when you come off a shelf is just one hell of a compression on your spine. I ran a 977L for a good minute at a block pit and man it was hell on your back bouncing of solid rock..
I used to steam clean on surface coal mines and couldn't resist a rip through shot rock just like this on a sticker brand new, paint on the blade, plastic in the seat d11r...kicked my cat radio in high and made my way across a field of boulders to the center of the shot where they were cutting off with 3 brand new 11s's...the whole job was new..992g,777d's, d8r, 330c....it's way harder than it looks even with a machine this size...I grabbed a blade of rock and tried to get it over the holler fill but backed up way too early considerin it was 1000' to the bottom...man what an experience
Thanks for the vid! Sorry for all the newer ones - but the sound of a D11N will be unbeated forever!!!! This is a dozer!! About 25km from here, there's a D11N still working in a limestone quarry of a big cement producer and I've been often there to watch and listening the beast :-) !
This may sound like a dumb question but I am not in construction. I just love the machines. On a machine this large how does the driver know where he is going much less what he is pushing? The cab and the driver's seat are so far back and the front of the machine is long. It seems like he would have no idea where he is going or pushing. Any info would be great on how people operate machines like this.
It all really comes from experience to operate something this big. I was always told a bulldozer operator operates by the seat of his pants ...meaning by feel.
lidsman2221 on older equipment its about knowing the machine. You get a sixth sense how far your blade is. almost like the front of your car while driving. You know how much room you have. Newer D11 run gps to aide in grade control. They can basically get as accurate as a inch. Its very impressive.
All by feel. I’ve operated D9’s and they are almost half the size of the d11 and you basically can only see the bottom left or right or your blade. It’s all by feel. I operate cat skid steers now and even on something small in comparison it’s done by feel
lidsman22 a real operator does not need GPS or machine control he has an ass and an eye for it real cat scanners are a Dying Breed. Cutting grade with in two tenths by your ass and is becoming a lost art.
That's the way to do it. Ease along, find a seam and start rolling them out. Would like to be there to help him double-team some big ones. Been there too many times muself. GOOD one, Pal!
Yes sir, easy to bend or twist something when shoving shot rock. Especially with a poor shot like this. Taking it nice and slow will get the job done and reduce operator and machine fatigue
Leave something to make a day with tomorrow and don't beat yourself to death in the process. A wise old operator told me to run machines like I was at home sitting in my easy chair. Works every time! Put the power where it's needed and spinning isn't doing a thing but wearing stuff out faster for no reason.
Sorry about spelling computer took over. As a long time equip Mechanic but not involved in mining equip it would be interesting to see the facilities they have to keep these machines going
this is a king CAT onlly 1 in world the best ever i use CAT 245L year 1984 over 56.000hours and going 100% no words for the KING OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT IS CAT nice vedeo mate
amazing how strong tracks are today. Amazing metal. CAT best service and parts. Nice job Thanks Smooth careful operator shows experience. Hot rod kids =$$$$$ repairs. Sand wears rails rollers pins bushings the fastest.
Are those high track dozers harder on the pins and bullgears than the straight track machines? It seems like they would be since there are fewer teeth in contact with the pins so those pins and teeth must be under a higher strain. Caterpillar has stuck with that design so I'm guessing there must be some advantage can someone tell me what it is?
i see this is a 1989...how many hours/years would the company keep rebuilding them before things like frame fatigue and such would require them to be retired or replaced?...I really enjoy your channel...keep up the good work.
Changing the undercarriage when hours are up is vital for a dozers life. Additionally engine rebuilds, blade repairs, and other good maintenance will keep her going normally keep an old tractor like this going forever.
CAT is a certified rebuild company, all of their products are made to be either replaced with spec or to be remanufactured by CAT themselves through their shop. Tedious in prices but they are passionate in making equipment last a lifetime. Rebuild kits were made for previous years equipment to either enhance ability and performance and allow the customer to have more updated parts. Other companies cant compete with Caterpillar's ability to keep equipment and customers happy
Any idea what the life of the tracks, sprockets and rails is when using it hard like this? I am guessing that roughly one thousand hours or less will see them totally shot?
They must be differnt to excavator tracks, i track all day building rock walls on excavators and my tracks are good on some machines with 7500hrs still
rough stuff he is doing his best in that corner there he is a good doer man and saving the dozer the best he can under the circumstances the track chains are getting it here as are the grouser pads the rock is severe on running gear its a great dozer and has a lot of punishment taken over the years loyal cat what kind of hours has it done 20 k or more
PAmining of course not then how would company's make more money now days. they make them more prone to being broken or worn down faster than they use to make things. I remember my dad's dad had a bulldozer back then for over 30 years and it still worked now days you would be lucky if one would work for 5 years without constantly breaking down.
damn that was a big rock great video i love your videos i guess the drag line will come and remove the top soil to get the coal have a good day and a happy 4th
Don't want to go political on you but, how do these companies keep going with all the pressure from this regime to kill the coal industry? Keep up the good work
Jobs that aren't blasted enuff ....well when you feel machine twist and all filling in your teeth bout to shake out ya wish you we're pushing topsoil or clay
That guy is so rite those rocks will beat the 🐕 shit of ya that's a long 12 hour's my friend so hats off from all us operators Stout tracktor tho 4 sure 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Yep. The operator used the power a bit conservative to reduce track slippage. Hats off to his finesse in a most dificult situation.

It is fun! Nothing beats being right up close to the action for sure. That's why I love making videos to share moments like this
We all owe this machine and operator thanks. They got us our electricity! Thanks man awesome videos!
anyone who has ever done what he's doing on blasted rock knows how much this job sucks and how difficult it can be , so all you people that have something bad to say about the operator are clearly skidloader experts !!
Agreed. I know many old time dozer operators whose backs are shot from pushing in rock
Everybody wants to be an operator till their 1st rock job then it's a whole different story.

What a beast of a machine. Operator is easy on the machine but still gets it done. Cool video
Love the sound of the 3508

Torquemaster that's strange because these are electric hybrid
That operator knows his stuff!
He is a good operator!
Gotta love the D11 series... The D11T is a sweet heart...we got rid of all our N series but still a great machine compared to the 475a Komatsu
D11T is built for comfort. This old girl still requires muscle to run! :) Thanks!
Biggest I ever operated was a humble D6, looks like a toy in comparison! At the time the D6 felt massive and powerful, oh how times change!

Is it that loud in the cab ?
It might be to him, these old dozers are not like running newer ones
amazing how strong tracks are today. Amazing metal. CAT best service and parts. Nice job Thanks

Sand wears rails rollers pins bushings the fastest.
nice job. I really enjoy your Dozer videos
Thank you, glad you like them!
I’ve seen dozer operators that run them like this but never stop and they bury you in material. This guy seems like one of those operators.
An awesome beast. Would love to drive one.
Looks like that dozer needs new pads at the least. I suppose the grousers don't last long in those kind of conditions.
Cats don't bog down they push harder!
I find this stuff fascinating ...... How much do you have to pay them to do this work ?
Are those high track dozers harder on the pins and bullgears than the straight track machines? Awesome video mate she's had a hard life
UGH!! brings back those days in the rocky crude like that
Are you guys taking over burden off a coal seam? Doesn't look very well blasted in that area
Yes, and not every shot fires just perfectly. This is very common when shooting ANFO
it seems to me the tracks are loose and worn out. nice machine tho.
A bit late to the party on this one.... great control by the operator, moving rock until you get a way is hard going !! great job.
Cool video!

Nice, LOVE THE SOUND!!!!!!!
good operator easy on machine
Plus, he's paid by the hour
is there a Web site somewhere regarding equipment history for various lines e.g. terex loaders, cat dozer with specs etc. great video here!
Sorry not that I know of, best to resort to the original brochures or purchase some historical books written about that equipment. Thanks!
Any idea what the life of the tracks, sprockets and rails is when using it hard like this? I am guessing that roughly one thousand hours or less will see them totally shot?
If you run in rock like this or sand 1500 hrs if you're lucky. Rock guards help but its extremely hard on uc.
They must be differnt to excavator tracks, i track all day building rock walls on excavators and my tracks are good on some machines with 7500hrs still
Andrew Wilson I went through a torque converter in 3000 hours in rock like this in a d8
jordan wolff yea u ant pushing and straining ur tracks like a dozer . if u notice the cleats are gone on this machine.
good video keep up the good work and keep the video's coming.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Wow i missed your videos! Definitely making that D11 work!
That's what a D11 is designed for!

great!! vid and this Ole boy is a fine!! operator!!
Great video, are the D11N CAT 3412 engines
No, the D11N is powered by a Cat 3508
Two words..magnificent machine..
PAmining Thanks. I would have thought they would have had the V12 in there. keep up the great work
due for some new shoes i reckon. .
Any video with cat D11 somewhere in the title you will probably find me watching it. Probably even more so now that I own my own toy version of it.
Cool Machine!
Normal pushing in eastern Ky. good vid
Good operator
Good machine ran one like it in california this one needs track work but still pushing
I work on new construction/mining equipment. no way in hell anything made anymore is gonna last to see as many hours as what that D11 has...
No way, the new stuff just isn't built like these old ones.

it needs to replace the shoes of the tracks
Nice video👍
Hard Work Super D11 nice Cat
talking about hell on a tractor. Here is it. Glad it is not my money
That material has got to be rough on equipment.
It's rough on every piece of mining equipment blasted rock like that will eventually take its toll on everything
Jesus that thing is a beast that is straight rock
damn that was a big rock great video i love your videos i guess the drag line will come and remove the top soil to get the coal have a good day and a happy 4th
No actually all the pre-stripping work on this job is done with excavator and truck. The job is too small for a drag. Thanks!
I never operated a 11N but did push shot rock on a 11R
Rock sure wears down track cleats
is a really good dozer that CAT D11N
Man oh man, that's some UGLY ground...:)...That girl's earning her keep that day!
Damn good shot of what we do best in this part of the world...maybe you could stand there for the whole shift..lol j/k..don't be a stranger!
good machines operator
....about 2,000 hours of this before a complete overhaul.
100 tons of metal muscle!
too bad the tracks are lose, would hate to lose a track on that beast
Great up close video. Don't think I have ever seen a worse dozer operator though
I'd really like to hear why you think he's bad?
let me guess JTech you are the worlds best bulldozer operator if your not stop being a troll
I have pushed off lots of blast, man it's a prick of a job,go slow is good or you bust your back or the tractor
best operator yet.
Nice i love this videos
Thanks!
Nice.....!!
a dozer mans least favorite thing to push......hard rock lol good operator tho.just eased into it and made nice clean pushes
wow, talk about brutal
Don't want to go political on you but, how do these companies keep going with all the pressure from this regime to kill the coal industry? Keep up the good work
Way to much slack in the tracks needs adjustments
Shouldn't they have a smaller blade for that kind of work???
Nice!
camera man why the hell are you focusing on the cat ? I want to see what he's pushing or doing in front of the blade !! 😠😩😤
Monster race
