I know what you mean Trevor. I was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada when I was a child. 30 plus years later I traveled to India. The first time it was Calcutta. Parts of the drive from the airport to where we'll be staying reminded me of Jamaica. I didn't fell like a tourist and didn't need to point my finger and comment on everything. Then I went back 7 years later and I was in Kerala. We went for a walk one day through a small neighborhood and we passed the homes on a small trail and it had fruit trees that I knew from Jamaica. I was amazed. It was calm and serene walking amongst the fruit trees hanging over the fences from peoples homes.
2013 was the last time I went and I still feel like returning. I've been to other places, but even with all the issues, I as a Black woman, often think about returning.

I said the same thing. I'm Haitian and I can relate to their culture so much, maybe it's because I grew up with very strict parents 😂. My best friend in HS was from Bangladesh. I was the only friend her parents allowed in their home. We were so close to one another even though we didn't speak the same language. I'm a school teacher now and I love my Indian students, so dearly. They remind me of my younger self, always striving for the best. Never wanted to disappoint their parents, well-behaved and hardworking. I can't wait to travel and visit India.

It's likely past life related too... I came to Kauai over 4 years ago for the first time, & by the time I left, I felt like I was leaving my HOME, to go back to California... at the time, it was a weird feeling, but also, just felt natural... over 2 years later, I was able to move here. I lived here over 4 years now & it feels more like home, than California EVER did! In May 2019, I had a quantum session & learned that I actually DID live here in a previous life..

Something that needs to be noted here is that Indian people have a way of making other places feel like home either by using their native language, or making local food, or maintaining culture and religion through marriage, or literally naming local places after places in India.
That is one of the major reasons why so many people here in the comments also share a feeling of familiarity. A lot of them commenting are from countries where there are lots of Indians and where Indian culture is directly or indirectly influential.
