Get some granny's T Case, open it, flush it check all components. Some filings on the magnet is normal. The planetary should be without much play, a bit is normal. Remember that oil needs room to flow and act as a stabilizer (liquid bushing of sorts) as well as lubricant. Check gear wear. If all good replace with new chain. Check the bearings and seals and replace if needed. Only if needed. There are some tricky bearings and seals, so without some skill it can be a nightmare. Check and replace transmission output shaft seal. De-burring the chain sprockets is a very good idea. With annual oil change the T Case should remain strong and healthy. 33" tires are safe. 35" require mechanical sympathy. Steep CV angles induce undesirable forces throughout the drivetrain. Check middle support drive shaft bearing often. Regular annual Differential, T Case, Transmission oil changes insure years of off roading. My 2001 ML430 has over 160 000Km off road on a 380 000Km odometer. Still original CVs, although I have dismantled them , re lubed, and replaced the boots. I found a bit of ware, but I expect many more years from them. 40mm body lift and 40mm suspension lift (springs) Spacers are OK and preserve a normal ride. Higher rate springs lift it but when empty it's a rough ride. Soft, full travel suspension with light load, will out perform any High rise. Have fun!!!!!
Awesome !
The G-Wagon that is one of the best kept secrets.
I proudly call my ML500 the poor man’s G wagon.
wow! cool bro! How did the Dual Pass Aluminium Finned Transmission Oil Cooler work? Any good?
How many transfer cases have you gone through already? Just going on light offloading killed my TC on 2000 ML320
More than likely your transfer case was never serviced
A fluid change is all I ever did on the old 430s T-case.
