  • Happy Wednesday Friends!
It's the middle of the week and time for my midweek, off topic, but relative check in VLOG. This week is Episode 3 of my journey to a more sustainable solution for my hair. In this video I have been locked for one month and this whole experience has been very challenging for me. Bear with me while I navigate through this period and complain about my ends and my consultant. (I'm sticking with her by the way ) I hope this video is helpful to anyone considering #sisterlocks. This journey is not for the faint of heart. Similar to sewing, going through this process requires patience.
For all my regular followers I will be right back here on Saturday at 10am Central with another fashion, sewing, upcycle or thriting video. But for now enjoy details of #myfirstmonthwithsisterlocks . I have long but very fine, very thin and low density hair especially in my crown. My journey is unique and I hope this series helps someone. Happy to answer any questions. Keep in mind I am a newbie and my experience is unique to only me :-) Don't come for me in the comments LOL!! Really it's fine if you do. I'm learning everyday.
    See ya Saturday morning
    Toodles!!

I was the same way, complaining about the loose hair on the ends. I was unhappy for the first week then after the first shampoo where my ends were all curly and cute, I got over it. I trimmed a few ends that were bothering me and kept it moving. Once the hair settles, you’ll feel differently. I don’t think people offering opinions and suggestions without seeing you in person is helpful. Obviously, every head is different and what works on someone else’s head has nothing to do with yours. I was a little salty thinking I should’ve had more locs because I wanted my medium density hair to look really full. Mind you, I didn’t want 400 locs or more because I don’t want to spend 4 hours on retightenings, or risk breakage from too tiny locs and I don’t even like the tiny tiny locs. Talking to or listening to people who claim to have 400-500-600 locs had me doubting my hair would fill out the way I wanted. And the loctitian did give me what I said I wanted. Now at 3 months in, my hair is gorgeous like I knew it’d be but I was just impatient and uncomfortable in the beginning.

Sis, thank you for sharing your journey. I am just over a year on my SL journey and I have thin/low density hair. Not to mention that my journey began when I was losing hair due to an un-treated thyroid condition, so I can relate to having a challenging beginning. Hi I just came across your channel. You mentioned you wanted small locs. I think the consultant established your locs to big. I have fine hair. I'm from Chicago as well. There is someone I can recommend to go to her name is Arlanda. She's a Certified training assistant with Sisterlocks ( headquarters ) she's being doing sisterlocks since 2003. She did established my sisterlocks I'll find her information and send to it. Don't wait to long to decide if you want to take them down. She left way to much out at the end.

I was told by a locitian they used a 3 point rotation for thin hair and small/middle locs to make it look fuller. Perhaps a locitian on here can correct me. I would say to anyone don’t worry about your number of locs as long as your grid lined up. Not everyone head or hair is the same. It’s a very individual process/journey. Also, bunching happens when you get longer hair SisterLocked. My hair was 15” long when I got my SisterLocks and I had as much loose ends as you described and I had some bunching I had to correct. I hated it too, but I got over it very early on. I wore my hair in a mess bun for my first month or so until I got used to the scalpiness and loose ends.
I will say I bought M. Michele George’s book, The Knotty Truth, which has been my loc journey reference guide.

Thanks for sharing your journey. You have beautiful hair and I love your length. First of all your hair is to beautiful to be wearing that wig. Show off those locks 😊. I think whoever did your hair definitely should have gone down closer to the ends. You are about to enter into the shrinking stage of your journey. Also use a little less water since you are still in the early stages. Have fun, and enjoy your journey and keep sharing.

No scissors around your hair when removing the bands!! Instead of using rubber bands try using the elastic non-snagging bands. I never use the rubber bands I always use the elastic non-snagging bands and they work perfectly and you can reuse them. When you’re done washing your hair all you need to do is just slide them straight down.

    • @JenRestyleandFashion

Thanks. Can I find those at the beauty supply? I’m fresh out of rubber bands and was thinking about using clips instead

@@JenRestyleandFashion yes you can get them anywhere. Walmart, target, CVS, the hair store-anywhere. They are just elastic hair ties that people use to pull their hair back in a ponytail.

I went back and watched your video with your loctition and noticed she asked you what size you want. I was a little surprised by that because when I went for my consultation, my Loctition suggested the size I should have based on how thin my hair is. I would think she would select the size you need based on her review of your hair. My loctition did trim my dead ends. She explained why she needed to trim them. your locks looks beautiful though. I like them on you better than the wig. Your hair will fill in and the loose ends will lock.

With all do respect but from what I noticed from your video you’re doing too much to your hair to have it locked for the first time you’re supposed to leave your hair alone. You have been braiding a you’ve been touching you you’ve been curling and you’ve been playing with it you need to leave those locks alone and then you wanna blame your locktician it’s not fair to them either.
