    yes, it's wearing off, to see him fail so miserably in Guyana was kind of fun, but that should have been the end of it

      For me, what was good about Season 4 was that during that same season we were also watching Dakota Fred and Parker. There was a balance to the show. So yes, there was monumental failure, but we also got to see success. Now that Season 7 has cranked the drama meter to 11, it seems to be more about the failures than anything else.

      All summer of season 4 Toad was talking about all the bad stuff that was happening in Guyana. Almost none of it was actually mentioned on the show. I enjoyed season 4 because Toad fell on his ass in every episode. It was great.

    I agree 100% about Todd ,from the season 1 opener I could see Todd was not a good leader of men ,his ability to inspire workers to do more and work as a cohesive team is disgraceful for any foreman or superintendent who's lead crews of construction workers .
    Most of this show is staged but I believe Todd's inability to inspire a crew that don't lose their minds over a pick up truck parked in front of the fuel cell is the real deal ,I've watched my 50 man crew perform miracles because I listened to their ideas but always had a well thought out plan for any circumstances not planned for ,I've watched other foremen fill in for me while I was injured and saw my crew unmotivated and kicking shit around like Todd's crew ,you take the most productive smartest proven crew and put a poor leader in charge and that crew will fail every time ,that's why I think some of what we see from Todd is real .

    Watching "Gold Rush" at this time in history, 1/6/17, is like watching two drug addicts in search of. Todd & Jack. Each encouraging the other to commit more $$$, more effort and more hopes into a dream that ended for both a long time ago. Outside the money from Discovery, this season has to be draining it all away from the Hoffmans. Todd, you should have left home like everyone else...........

    I'm disappointed. I still love you but how could you? How could you do a video on Why The World Hates Todd Hoffman and not include a single mention of his beard? Its s horrible thing to see, I look away sometimes when it begins to remind me of the matted hair around a goats ass in molting season. I'll keep watching. But can't imagine how the beard didn't make even honorable mention in this lineup. ;)

    • @TheMaxbrooks
      @TheMaxbrooks 7 лет назад +5

      I think all his team mates would rather her walked into a rake than make them work for nothing but hope.
      If I were a god, which I'm not, and some one begged me for gold I'd give him a thunderbolt. Surely the Christian prayer would be more like "God please give the world peace, people understanding, cure the sick and feed the hungry. And if you have a morsel of energy left in your infinite power please offer us a sprinkling of gold with which I have the power to help my guys and their families."

      I still get a big laugh. tod is useless eg. End of last season they detected a small nugget and straight away tod jumps and commits to moving the operation ($1000000). That's so dumb it had me in stitches. He's just full of stupid. "lets leave Alaska, a guaranteed? $1000000 profit, and move to unknown ground without extensive testing" what a clown!!!

    Season 8: bring the Dodge brothers on board and focus on their operation, Fred & Dustin too (no brainer, duh) and as its all scripted maybe lump Rick, Tony, Mitch, Thurber, Dave, Gene and Chris into a new crew. Finally dig a 100 foot hole and bury Todd, Jack and Parker alive in it. Oh yeah, some footage of Monica driving up and down a bumpy road in a loader whilst topless in every episode would be nice too.

    The 2 seasons where "The Beard of no Knowledge" actually put some gold in the jar were not telling the whole truth. If you add up all the expenses, like Dave's bailout and all the fuel and labor costs, they didn't make Jack Shit per hour. Maybe Todd should open a McDonalds up. He would put the store in the black every month. But it would be his own money, just like Gold Rush cooks the books.

    it's not even as much fun to laugh at turd ' s nonsense as it use to be, to me what's worse is they've made Dave and Freddy look and act like fools, kinda like turd, and I got a suspicion they're much smarter than they're made out to be, and I don't think all that much of the cheese man , maybe it's the scripts , but he seems like a world class bullshiter

  • @gmofftarki
    @gmofftarki Год назад

    One thing that I wished for throughout what I watched of the show was for the more reasonable members of "the new generation" (Rick, Tony's smart kid, and, at the time, Hunter) to form their own team, without the influence of their fathers/bosses. Hunter has become more and more like Todd with each successive season, either because Todd is a terrible influence on him or because Disney has convinced him to push up the drama by fighting with his dad or spending money doing dumb stuff, possibly with Dave Turin and/or the Dodge brothers in charge.
    Alternately, do a sort of "kid swap" thing for a season, where each of them is traded to one of the other teams. Obviously it doesn't quite work, since Tony's smart kid has a more valuable skillset as an engineer than do the others, and Rick has since started working as claimboss himself, but it would have been interesting circa season 3 or so.
    For what it's worth, I never quite liked Gene Cheeseman. It's possible that that was entirely Disney's thumb on the wheel, but, for example, they couldn't make me hate Juan, Mitch, or the Dodges, whatever they tried, so who knows?

    If the world hates Todd Hoffman then why's he producing another Gold Show to replace Gold Rush starting next year?
    outdoorrealityshows.com/todd-hoffman-starts-tv-production-co/
    On the other hand, after listening to your video, I'd say you nailed the reason why Todd Hoffman "NEEDS TO" start all over now that he sank Gold Rush ratings to all-time new lows. Instead of getting fired, (or just disappearing) they give him a new show where he's now an "expert gold miner" helping greenhorns find gold with his expert advice.

    • @TheHiltnerds
      @TheHiltnerds  7 лет назад

      I am totally okay if Todd gets a new show. I think he needs to do something different. It would be good for him and good for Gold Rush.

  • @RichardTheRoe
    @RichardTheRoe 7 лет назад

    As I understand it Todd never wanted Gold Rush to be about actual mining, his vision was more like Duck Dynasty; A short segment where they pretend to work but it's really about the personal chemistry, family and Christian values. Teach the people at home morale or something.
    Anyway, you are absolutely on point, Gold Rush would do fine without crew Hoffman, I don't know how many times he'll get a "last chance". The show would probably gain a lot by switching crews more often. It's not the same rooting for the poor down to earth crews in the first season as some lazy TV millionaires reading a script....

    I could cope with this show if they focussed less on scripting drama, a lot of which is re-writes (or blatant copying with next to no re-writing) of previous years "scripts". it is treating the audience as dumb, most aren't.
    I don't expect to see them to "win" every year but to fail because drama (ratings) is so stupid and if there's less drama, focus on some other things. Basically they (DC) seem to be just doing the bare minimum expecting the show to rate because it always has. Not good enough.
    PS keep up the awesome work.

    Gimme more Dodge Brothers, retire some of the old characters and bring on new ones and a tad less obviously drama from the editing room and scripting would be nice. Toad? Well, make him executive produce, give him a check and all is good. But no need to feature him on the show and I think he doesn't want to be on it anymore either. Parker? Liked him when he was digging and grandpa's tourist claim. Now it's boring with all fake mining operations. Tony? Was a welcome guest character, but his dredge thing is again so boring. But well as long as the ratings are OK, they will do the same over every year as it works and when it doesn't make enough money anymore they just cancel it. Guyana was an experiment to revive the show, didn't work, so back to repeating the same thing until cancellation and give every season a scripted goal and fake cleanups. What I miss is Grandpa Hoffman high on his meds screwing things up without a script.

    *Yeah you're right you are nobody and your opinion SUCKS!!! Everyone else except for Todd is doing the same old thing THAT is what is getting boring!!!*
    *At least Todd is trying new things in New places and it's exciting to see if he's going to make it and hit it big!!! With Parker and Tony we know what's going to happen with them!! Todd deserves to hit it big, he works his ass off and sometimes it's for nothing but he never quits, that's what people like and they want to see him hit massive amounts of gold!!! He's awesome I mean how many people do you know that can start with pretty much nothing then gather a crew take them to Alaska with nothing set up, and then track down some land to mine and gather all the heavy equipment and a wash plant with very little to almost no money to start with!! Even if you don't succeed that's quite an accomplishment just doing all that without tons of money!!! So... we would all like to see him hit it really big one season and come out of it with more folks than you can imagine for him and all of his crew especially the ones that stuck with him!!!!!*

    I'm not tired of the schadenfreude of watching todd fail catastrophically, scripted or otherwise, but he really has no purpose. It completely believable that the horrendous narration dialogue is a high-concept satire about how the show has nothing new to say that hasn't already been done before.
    This show has never really been good enough to have a shark to jump (re: "assisted reality reality" as a genre which is now watching its salad days disappear in the rearview), but if there was a watershed moment it was when they unceremoniously dumped Dakota Fred out of the show with barely a mention when they were regularly the most interesting camp with the best (fake scripted) ideas to pursue. Everything has gotten progressively less believable and more deceitful since that season ended, and there's been absolutely no positive attributes added to compensate for this.
    Except of course, todd atop his mighty bulldozer toilet for those totally tubular opening credits.

    • @TheHiltnerds
      @TheHiltnerds  7 лет назад +1

      The phrase, "This show has never really been good enough to have a shark to jump" is a such far greater critique, summed up so much more succinctly, than I could have ever been capable.

    If they got rid of Hoffman the viewing would probably double or triple. Producers just won't do it because they are all for old school old people. Why aren't doc's mats being used? (goldhog-best gold capturing in the world) Why oh why do they always use drama-I don't care about the drama which is 90% all Todd. I wanted more science on finding gold -how to prospect-drilling-testing-skills-smelting- so without all this-I stopped watching it after season 2. All I do now is come visit your summary and it's plenty for me and mostly it gives me a great laugh. I won't even buy the dvds.

    We knew half of it was put on for the viewing audience but Why did TH have to be so stupid? Back home he'll be rich and get slagged off for being so stupid in same sentence! I for one never saw TH do much, the occasional panning or driving for the camera's! Upstairs is in good faith cos if you overstay your welcome those viewing figures will fall, so will the money! Parker I hope will change his attitude towards his crews (note I wrote towards, not t'ords as you guys say) Still he rubs people up the wrong way, one day someone will take offence and put him on his ass! But I like Parker and wish him and his family well! I like his choice of cook too! Now, Tony Beets, love or loathe, he may do it his f***ing way but eventually its done and works! The amount of gold he gets proves as much! I'll keep watching! PS go to Australia TH, Gold is only a few inches deep there!

    I really think Todd needs to leave the show. I know it’s easy for everyone to not like Parker but I’ll say this about Parker he is a hard worker he has taken Todd’s hand me downs and pulled a ton of gold out of the ground. That’s why Tony won’t let Todd mine his land he isn’t a worker and can’t mine for shit he hasn’t really done anything since season 4 he lost his crew twice and still owes them money he buys a wash plant every season Todd looks at this show to stick it to Parker but Parker keeps kicking Todd’s arse all over the mine site it’s simple yes Todd did start the show but he hasn’t done anything note worthy since season 3 or maybe even season 2. And yes you may post why do I still watch the show I watch the show because I like Parker his just like me doesn’t take shit and hates lazy people who are just stupid and can’t do there job and take coffee brakes while there meant to be feeding the wash plant. And I also watch it for the beets family and that’s it so I watch the show for the beets family and Parker. If I could I’d leave Australia and go work for Parker as a loader driver any time if I knew how to contact him and ask I would.

      TheHiltnerds well it’s a show about gold mining and he hasn’t been all he does it bitch about beating Parker I mean grow up Parker is 21 and what’s Todd mid 40s. I think Todd’s just a little jealous that Tony let Parker mine on his claim and when Todd asked Tony said no. Also that season he was doing good and hit his goal and at the end of the season the claim owner told him that he was maybe selling the claim to Parker Todd said basically fuck that I’m not working for him

    Thanks for the analysis, but let's add a few details. It sure looks like Todd didn't create "Gold Rush". It looks like he sold a "survivalist" show theme, that explains the first season parts with their families, the buildings they raised, the twenty-some guns they brought, and the bear they hunted. Of course Todd failed at survival, tapping into a polluted stream for drinking water, hunting down a protected bear for no reason, and not even bringing a shovel. I suspect it's Discovery that saved the show by a pivot to be all mining and no survivalism.

      Season 1 was a vacation for the Hoffs, they had no idea it would be a hit show. Toad and the fam went to Haines every day and swam in the public pool. They fished a lot. Very little mining was actually done. According to Harness's GF, they argued and screamed at each other a lot over money. DC had given Toad a certain amount of cash that was supposed to be doled out to his crew, but he kept most of it for himself. He even stopped buying food and made everybody get their own. He stopped paying the lease. He was burning all his bridges because he thought show would flop. He violated so many rules AK says he's banned from mining there forever. That's why they went to CA in season 2.
