Love this take - and The Craft! One thing I’d like to add tho is that Nancy and the others don’t exactly use their magic for self healing. Much of their downfall is that they end up bastardizing their own coven by spiritually re-investing in patriarchy, as symbolized by Manon and contrasted by Sarah, her mother and even the woman of the occult store. Systemic poverty is a curse but engaging in hyper capitalism to validate oneself isn’t exactly a cure. Neither is being a pick me, indulging in pretty privilege or inflicting petty, retaliatory violence against a racist (tempting as it is). What the movie is arguably trying to convey is that power can be corruptive if used to magnify one’s shadow self.

I love your insight here! Pinned it to the top of the comments section. Thank you, some of what you said hadn't even occurred to me! It's so true though.

I'm not entirely convinced Nancy Downs is psychopathic. I'm convinced she's emotionally tortured from probably being treated horribly since her birth. I'm convinced she became a domineering asshole to defend herself. I'm convinced that's a way to hide her vulnerable side. All of that "psychotic" energy is actually her trying to live a better life. But bad luck inevitably happens and it pisses her off. She was designed to be doomed for entertainment. That's why she never got redemption. But her character hates being doomed. So, I can imagine she would love a person who helps her be happy rather than psychotic. Also, I don't claim the prequels and sequels to "The Craft". They've screwed the pooch very hard from "The Craft" sequel. It's not even horror. It's just cringey with glittery C.G.I. that makes me think of a boring Disney movie. They're probably gonna butcher Nancy's character development and make her get redeemed. Which brings the horror aspect down and turns it into rehabilitation for anti-heroes.
