"I know this is worth $150, I don't really know how to take care of this or store it properly and I was hoping for some birthday spending money in Vegas"...that is a pawn shop worthy transaction. If they were to recover the lost items and could prove they were fake, would the claimant not be risking insurance fraud and also counterfeiting? Two crimes for the price of one. Best thing to do would be to destroy the evidence, I doubt that the fake item was actually stolen, so if they are staging a theft, why leave evidenc? No body no crime situation.@@PlasmaStorm73

That actually happens a lot, especially with people who finds antiques in some dark corner of their home. A bit less in the US, because there aren't as many ancestral property of significant length(most native dwelling have long since disappeared). But very common in Asia and Europe.

"Tortoise shell" is a misnomer. It's actually sea turtle, and illegal to sell. The most commonly used is/was the Hawksbill Sea Turtle. That's what was used to make this guitar. The US Endangered Species Act would prohibit the transfer or ownership (outside of family) if it was manufactured after about 1974. However, unless it is over 100yrs old, it cannot "enter into commerce". That means it can't be bought or sold (or bartered). Once an item is over 100yrs old (at that point, it's officially considered an antique), it is exempt from the prohibitions of the ESA.

I bought a small desk like this before although it was more primitive style - it was a cash desk that a payroll clerk would have in the field to pay workers. This is the same size & type of my desk, and it would make sense to have a built in gun to prevent stealing the cash for payroll.

Desk was for a show ,used as demo at furniture section of police station furnishing ,basically made small for easy transportation scale 1 to 2 ,to be shown at gun shows as desk for police chidf.

if the insurance co. pays for the loss, sometimes they then get the rights to the item if it is found. Like a stolen car. they pay the owner but if the vehicle is found later, it needs to be turned over to the insurance co as the owner... that may not have been the case here with the coin, but it can be the case in other instances...

Under the United States constitution, it is classified as arms, and is, and should always be, therefore considered a legally attainable firearm. Firearms are not required to have a serial number for building, recreational use, or carry unless it is to be transferred via an FFL certificated facility. This is a completely LEGAL item for display, or use, however it cannot be transferred due to the lack of a serial number.
They still probably wouldn't buy it unless they knew someone would buy it off them. It's definitely a novelty, and could be bought and sold legally, but the expert gave his professional opinion. So Rick trusted him

The easiest thing to do would be to contact a museum to see if they’d be interested in it due to its potential historical significance as a relic from 19th and 20th century industry. Payroll Desks are historically relevant, and to my knowledge, they remain relatively scarce with very few surviving examples. So perhaps selling it to a Museum would be the only way to offload it that doesn’t require a lot of real footwork. But, like I said, our constitution should’ve guaranteed that we wouldn’t need to jump through *_ANY_* unnecessary hoops to buy or sell something like this. 😒.

The desk would not have to be deactivated. If it was older then 1895 it is not considered a legal firearm. If it is newer then that, she would have to take it to an gunsmith to have it serialized. That would pass ATF rules for a legal firearm.
I have been racking my brain on the gun desk for a while now. I think I seen one either in an old Western or a bond like movie. I do remember seeing one before I seen it here. I can't place it fo well but I have seen one before.

So many people proclaimed themselves that messiah. 2) We can assume that one of these hundreds proclaiming themselves messiah would be charismatic enough to attract a large following. 3) When such a charismatic leader appeared and got that following, whenever one of these messianic leaders attracted enough attention, he would have certainly been put to death by the Romans. 4) Once one of them was killed for this, his followers would have doubled down on worshipping him, and there, Christianity. It's sort of a historical inevitability. I cannot think of any scenario where this DIDN'T happen.

One auction on a wood base was a very large Rhino horn!! (collected 100 plus years ago) My guess is it went to the local Chinatown herb store and was immediately ground up!!

the German spy camera is called Minox B spy camera which is specially designed for photocopy secret files. instead of taking notes, using a photocopy machine which was extreme large at that time, this tiny camera gave the agents a way of rapidly copy enemy's secret documents in a blink of eyes. normally it will come with a chain attached to the camera body to help you to measure the distance between the table and the camera in order to get a good focus.

People did write about him outside the Bible, I don't know where you're getting your information. Rabbis wrote about Jesus while denouncing him. They called him a charlatan, but they didn't say he didn't exist. The historian Flavius Josephus also included information on Christ in his history of Palestine, and this historian was born a few years after the Crucifixion, but he wrote as if the one called Jesus was a matter of fact person whose physical existence was already accepted at that time. The Roman Tacitus also said that a leader of a peculiar sect calling themselves 'Christians' had been put to death via crucifixion by Pilate. Tacitus was not himself a Christian. When Tacitus wrote questionable things whose veracity he could not check, he always made that explicit in the account, but he speaks of Christ as though he were just a guy whose existence was not doubted by anyone, like he was a real person. Pliny the Younger wrote about how there was a sect of Jewish people who would sing songs to someone they called "Christus" and praise a mortal man who had been put to death as though he were a God. Kind of sounds like he's talking about Jesus. Not absolute proof that Jesus existed, but we have as much proof as we do for many people that far back. He is as likely to have existed as Socrates. And we know there were apocalyptic Jewish cults looking for a messiah at the time, it was sort of inevitable that one of a thousand people proclaiming themselves the Jewish messiah would be charismatic enough to establish a following, and when he did establish a strong following, the Romans and Jews had to see to it that he was put to death, in order to crush that heretical sect. But the Streisand effect took place and made the sect even stronger. And that is where Christianity comes from. It was basically historically inevitable. If there was not an actual Christ, then where do you think Christianity came from exactly? The whole religion came from worshipping a dead guy as a God. What would have inspired the first Christians if there wasn't a Christ? Someone had to start the religion and the person that did would have been put to death for proclaiming themselves a messiah. Just like, ya know, Jesus.
@@jjc81988 We can logically assume Jesus for a few reasons. 1) We know there were apocalyptic Jewish sects at the time, all looking for a messiah. So many people proclaimed themselves that messiah. 2) We can assume that one of these hundreds proclaiming themselves messiah would be charismatic enough to attract a large following. 3) When such a charismatic leader appeared and got that following, whenever one of these messianic leaders attracted enough attention, he would have certainly been put to death by the Romans. 4) Once one of them was killed for this, his followers would have doubled down on worshipping him, and there, Christianity. It's sort of a historical inevitability. I cannot think of any scenario where this DIDN'T happen.

Tortoise shell inlaid in furniture?? you can sell it, but it cannot cross state lines! I n Victoria, Canada at the weekly auction they sometimes come up with real interestin stuff, as so many govt. employees and politicos have travelled the world. One auction on a wood base was a very large Rhino horn!! (collected 100 plus years ago) My guess is it went to the local Chinatown herb store and was immediately ground up!!
